Things that were good about today...

1) I wore NARS Sheer Glow for the first time in quite a few weeks - if not months. It truly felt like being reunited with a stalwart friend. These days I wear Punjab. Expect this to be the flavour of this month.

2) I tried something different with my eyes. Don't get me wrong - I didn't venture into fluoro eyeshadows but I did try a new combination for the Urban Decay Naked Palette. This is almost too dull to blog really as both colours would be traditionally referred to as "best friend" colours - i.e, those reserved for transitions and blending - but I plonked them on my eyes without anything else and loved the result:

Forget Sidecar - I can't work with that glittery mess - it's all about Naked all over the lid and Buck blended along crease and lower lash-line.

Snoozeville right? But oh it's divine. I should accompany this statement with a good old eye pic but I forgot to take one of those...whoops....next time if you want to see!

However, to make it clear - this is the most natural, forgiving, soft but sexy smokey eye EVARRR! It's so unobtrusive - it won't look like you are wearing a sh*tload of eyeshadow but it will make your eyes defined and yes, it makes my eye colour "pop".

Dammit with that expression.

3) I wore a top that I have been meaning to wear for a while. Purchased in December - in J Crew - it has been languishing in my wardrobe. Today was the day it came out to play!

When I bought this it was massively reduced in their sale and obviously Sequin Magpie over here was all over it like a rash - or as Kelanjo19 would say, "like a tramp on chips".

It's a soft jersey material, cropped sleeves and embellished with lots and lots of pink sequins.

You could really dress this up but I think that would be wrong - I feel like this needs to be hidden within netural shades.

It's comfortable, it's stretchy and it makes me quite happy :)

Blazer: River Island
Jeans: Cheap Monday
Watch: Michael Kors (5055)
Bracelet: Tiffany & Co
Shoes: Converse (out of shot).

There was also one other thing I wore today that made me a very happy girl indeed - but that is going to be the next post. You will laugh at me when you see it - guaranteed :)

  1. Love the contrast of the sequins & the converse - not that we can see the converse, but y'know what I mean!

That blazer is gorgeous - looks like a real 'go with anything/everything' piece :)

  2. Oh, I saw that last year too, I should have been that tramp on chips...aw now I regret that. It looks so chic. Sequins can go so terribly wrong sometimes. I always end up with a wayward one just sort of dangling, and I never get a chance to mend them. Maybe your blazer acts as a protective layer, adding form to function?

  3. I love that top! Very sparkly and girlie! Also love the blazer. My personal favourite eyeshadow in the naked palette is sin, I hit pan on it the other day xx

  4. Thats the same look I do with my UD naked palette everytime I use it. I guess I could have just bought NAKED and BUCK!

  5. "a tramp on chips"! I think Nick from The Apprentice said that once, and I died. What an all-time babe. :D

The J Crew top is a beauty! I love what you've paired it with. :)

  6. That top is gorgeous! You really are a sequin magpie, unlike me, whenever I see sequins I run over all excited then think 'When am I ever gonna wear that?' and walk away. However! You did make me rush out to Topshop to buy their sequin zig-zag jumper, in both colours I might add! So thanks for that :') x

  7. @Sarah - thank you :) I love it too. Everyone needs sequins on a Sunday :)

@MissCherie - it is! you must try and get something similar if you don't have already. Such a great staple!

    @Heartshapedbruise - I love it - it's a reliable piece for a lazy dresser like myself :)

@D - i think it was originally something crazy like $90 but reduced to about $30 - ALL OVER IT! :)

@Charlotte's Obsessions - you know i don;t use Sin enough - its a really shade though!

@Krystal Leigh - haha I know right? But how we would ever know how essential those two shades are if we hadn't bought the palette? This is how I think :)

@Moofy - I LOVE that expression. As soon as Kelly said it in a video I laughed :) And gotta love Nick :)

  8. @ha.rose - Ah I LOVE that jumper - predictably :) I find it a bit itchy but the way it looks makes it well worth it! I didn't even know they did it in different colours!

  9. Ah, do post a pic of the eyes! I have somehow managed to resist obtaining the UD Naked Palette, but this just might send me over the edge.

  10. Wow, I love the contrast of the sequins and neutral tones! Definitely upload a photo of your eye makeup - anything that looks like you've put a lot of effort in when you haven't is a surefine winner! :)

  19. Holy disco ball- I love that top! I completely agree with the subtle neutrals that bring out the best overall look. It takes restraint to not overpack eyeshadows! Loving the gorgey blazer again =)

  23. Will definitely have to try out the Naked + Buck combo for myself! You look lovely, love that top. :) xo

  24. Blend Sidecar with Buck & apply all over lid...seems to help with fallout!!! A little bit more Buck in the crease~you will not be disappointed :)

    Love the sequined top!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wish I could pull off sequins like you do. Being a plus size, sadly I just can't!

I love Sidecar but it is messy. I apply it with a finger. Swipe on shadow, swipe on lid, no brush hair to send glitter everywhere.

  26. love the shirt! very pretty!

  27. I love your top! And I'm a huge fan of the mattes in the naked palette as well. Sometimes if I'm lazy I'll just slap buck all over my eyes and in the crease!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love how you wore the sequined top!! It looks so chic like that :-)

  30. hi laura! love the top!
i've been reunited with my nars sheer (matte) as well and it was like love the second time around :) still obsessed with my naked palette!

ps. i have a similar dress i got from Asos that i haven't worn - reason being it's bare back and can't find a nice bra for it.. :)

    xoxox

  31. if you apply sidecar with your finger, i find you don't get a mess as you would with a brush. it looks beautiful all over the lid. naked is one of my favorite shadows in the palette. i'll usually blend other shadows out with it. and i LOVE your top, especially with the blazer over the top. lovely!

  32. That sequinned top is amazing!

Why not check out my new beauty blog, The Glossy Guide?

  33. the sequin is quite a lot to take. I like how you paired it with a blazer. Personally, the blazer looks very nice!

For the UD pallete, try this combination:
Virgin all over the lid, then Buck on crease, and then go over the same area where you put buck with Smog (just so that the two blend well)... its a stellar combo! Try it =)

  34. Eyeliner swatch on the right hand, in true beauty addict style? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. that is the same eye i have beenw earing, sometimes i use thew lightest colour as a base instead of naked... i am also having the same problem with sidecar it is definitely the most unused colour in the palette it is just far too shimmery, and there is loads of fall out. :D

  36. That blazer is so divine! I usually would not be into the sequin blouse but the blazer totally makes it. Love the easy and simple eye makeup, little during the day is best in my opinion.

  38. I love that top, it looks lovely with the blazer! I've had the NAKED palette for months but have never tried that combination as I thought it would be too dull.. must try it out now!

    xx

  39. Love that naked palette combo, I use it all the time. And sidecar's not so bad haha just needs some more love and attention. Sin is by far the best shadow in there though!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Your top looks a lot like sidecar ;)
You should work it out because this eyeshadow is soooo pretty ! Try it over a creamier primer (not a paintpot) with a 239 by just pressing it in. No swipe because you'll have glitter everywhere. xx

  47. very pretty, love the shadow combo, I don't have the naked pallet but got one from Clarins that have the same color as Buck which I wear at crease never tried it for lower lash line but will do tomorrow :P love your top specially the color:) you're right these kind better to dress them down, very chic and pretty combo you made :)
