Bang on trend :p

I am always on the lookout for these shell tops. They are so easy to incorporate into a word/weekend type scenario - with jeans, with trousers....it adds a bit of interest, is very easy to wear and in this one's case - with the colour blocking shizzle - would be described as "on trend".

Oh Lordy, if there is a term I despise more than "stuffies" or "eye pop" it would have to be "on trend" and it's many permutations..."bang on trend" is a an even more shocking offender. It's the stuff of lazy copywriters desperately trying to conjure up ways to make something seem current and cool so they resort to this banging metaphor again...and again...and again.... I suppose now that I have included it, I become the lazy copywriter :)

I am sure you have worked out by now that this is a pretty boring post...it's about a top. Yep, that's about it :)

Top: New Look (Link!)
Jeans: Hollister Laguna Super Skinny
Boots: (out of shot but the ASOS Aggie's...love!)
Blazer: Topshop (old)

To try and make this post semi-interesting I just wanted to talk about three of my favourite makeup products right now. I haven't included La Ligne de Chanel cake liner or Mythology shadow by MAC because we all know that they are old news by now...but here's Brit Wit Crememblush by MAC, Love lipgloss and Just Skin, both by Chantecaille.

Let's just all gather round to give Just Skin some praise.

Someone once @replied me on Twitter and said that Just Skin literally makes them weep with joy. This I understand.

My second tube (I was previously Wheat and now I am the colour Glow...which as a name I like even more) - this is the tinted moisturisers to beat all tinted moisturisers: and I have tried them all. I have been there with BB creams, Laura Mercier, By Terry and some cheaper versions. Nothing, and I repeat NOTHING gives your skin the coverage, glowy finish, longevity and plump finish that Just Skin does. It is magical....flattering, barely there and yet you know that it's doing something very special because normally you know your skin does not look that good.

It makes me want to go to Chantecaille and get a £1000000 makeover....because that's the only draw back. The price is high. It's about £50. Yep. And a tube lasts about 2 months - so that's a hefty outlay. But hey, it's my low/medium cover foundation/tinted product of choice and one I have kept using (albeit sparingly) for the last 6 months.

And after that I can say that Brit Wit gives your gorgeous light pink/nude/mauvey/scuplted cheeks and Love gloss is non-sticky, long lasting and a pretty subtle pink. It is also Angelina Jolie's lipgloss of choice.

So there you go!

Right! Enough waffling - I am off to watch True Blood (downloaded from here - link!)

Thanks for listening to me :)

  3. Love the top, I've seen quite a few of them lately. I think it's a safe way to do colour blocking, not much thought required! I'm watching TB too, but still on season 1, I've only just discovered it!

  4. Love the top, I spent the duration of Sunday trying to find a black blazer that didn't look like a suit jacket and wasn't made of silky material, my search continues! Enjoy True Blood, am gonna download it soon myself, right now I am watching the drivel that is Pretty Little Liars, I cannot stop watching it! Guilty pleasure so it is :)

  5. Pretty top. Not a colour I have in my wardrobe *plots* :)

  6. Great top, a really cute way to colour block without doing the Cheryl cole orange and purple thing.

I adore chantecaille but fear that if I allow myself to indulge too often then I will inevitably be very overdrawn very regularly :o

  7. @Crystal - omg watching it now and it's a gooood episode :)

    @Vickie - thank you :) it's a new colour for me :)

  9. @onyx - you have a lot to look forward to :)

@Karen - ah really? it can be tricky...topshop? they generally can be relied upon to deliver good blazers. or GAP you know...always worth a shot.

@Computergirl - haha this is my first foray into orange :)

@Glitterish Allsorts - oh i know...it can be tempting but the financial reality means that i dip in and out only very occasionally :)

@DIana - i kind of like that flowy-ness...when i am sitting all day i don't like things to be too tight...well not always :)

  15. @Amyyy - they are surprisingly good. i have my eye on some J Brands though next....that or H&M;s :) I want a pair with nothing on the pockets and no branding at all.

  16. I like the top, it's sort of a take on the 60s mod vibe.

And I was all for Just Skin, till you dropped the price bomb, yikes. I think I may try it in the future. I just have to ease myself into the idea of paying $64.00 (USD) for a tinted moisturizer...sticker shock for me right now. It's more than Guerlain for goodness sake...

  17. i love the color of that lipgloss! and the way you described the just skin tinted moisturizer makes me want to go out and purchase one...like right NOW! :)

  18. My friend really recommends the H&M jeans, they're only jeans she will buy, I'm feeling I need a jean shop soon to stock up for the winter now. check out my blog if you have time peachykeen1992.blogspot.com :)

  21. that tinted moisturizer is on my list as soon as i finish my Dior HydraLife!! i have always been a fan of Chantecaille... their eye cream and vital essence serum are, for a lack of better words, amazeballs.

  22. @Sandra - apply it with a kabuki and it will be love :) (I hope so anyway!) :) plus their powder foundation.....*faints* so beautiful. Sooo tempted by the vital essence - definitely something to try in the next year :)

  25. I'm going to have to put my hand in the air and admit that I'm a user of the phrase 'bang on trend', even though it makes me cringe when I read it. But trying to come up with a phrase to describe something current makes me cringe even more, because I always end up with something incredibly cheesey!

That top is lovely, I can't believe it's from New Look! It looks like something from Zara at least. New Look is so hit-and-miss for me, but when they get it right they REALLY get it right.

  26. Have you ever tried Origins VitaZing? I find it's the best in hybrid between foundation, tinted moisturizer and BB cream product that gives me enough coverage and a massive nice glow. I love it! X

    ReplyDelete
  27. That tinted moisturiser looks awesome, think ill have to stick to the origins vitazing though as the 50 price tag is just too high for me!

  28. i want that lipgloss!! at $32 i don't think i can bring myself to spend it! is it really that amazing? you should do an up close face pic so i can see it better!

  29. Just think of it this way. As Victoria Beckham said (in her book) "The most expensive dollar spent is the dollar that is only worn once." If $50 is being put to good use just enjoy it! Better than buying two or three tinted moisturizers at $20 that aren't as well loved. :D

  30. i think i might purchase brit wit. it definitely looks like a color i'd use often. love the top!

  38. Hey Laura, did you know that Hollister changed all of their jeans? I got an email from them last week advising of this. Apparently they gave them more stretch and changed the waistband to a more flattering cinched style so they don't gape in the back anymore. I went on Friday night to try on all the new styles. My thoughts? They are total crap now! They fit like every other jean that is made for teenage girls with no butt or waist. They are so low waisted now I could barely pull them up high enough to cover my undies! I'm extremely disappointed and wish I had stocked up on their old styles while I had the chance. :( Thought I'd let you, a fellow Hollister jeans lover (or, perhaps ex-lover now) know.

Do you think the gloss is comparable to the Laura Mercier glosses? I find those non sticky and quite long lasting as well.

  51. Laura...

    Your lips...

    They look massive!

Are you using something on them beyond the Chantecaille 'Love' gloss? If so, me and my thin little lips need to know about - and bulk buy! - it. ;0)

I love Just Skin, too, but can't afford to use it as much as I would like.

  52. Hey Laura! I've read all your comments about Chantacaille Just Skin. What is your skin tone by the way? Why did you buy 'Glow' for the second purchase instead of holding on 'Wheat'?? Is it too orangey? I wanna ge myself one but I'm debating either to Glow, Tan, or Wheat. I think I'm NC35 in MAC. xx -Chessy
