Apologies for the lack of posts this week - but here I am, back in Dubai and sweating like anything in the name of an Outfit of the Day photo :)
I wore my H&M mesh skirt for the first time ever today. £19.99 of girly goodness that feels surprisingly light and easy to wear. There are probably about 5 layers to this skirt, which lends a slightly 50's/60's vibe to it.
I did wonder what to wear this with. I tried it with a fitted shirt on top and it was all a little bit "Happy Days", with the 50's/60's theme taken to fancy dress status. So I did what I always do and played it very safe. Black body from Topshop and Tory Burch flats.
NOTE: The jacket stayed on only in air conditioned environments and for the seconds it took to take these photos. It is bloomin' humid today!
Excuse the sand at the tips of the shoe :)
Yes, I was quite tempted to just dive into that fountain.
Skirt: H&M (current season and here is the link! Link!)
Top: Body from Topshop (which actually has poppers on the crotch area...ewww)
Jacket: Topshop (current season)
Belt: Hollister
Shoes: Tory Burch (a recent Outnet acquisition and boy do I love the gold hardware. I was always a bit skeptical of the Reva's and their puckering at the back of the shoe but I think that's what helps them keep their shape for a long time. I highly recommend!)
Bag: Chanel
Necklace: Tiffany & Co
Sunglasses: Gucci (someone asked for the code for these and it's GG 3155/S D28JJ 62 13 135!)
Book update!
First things first, I got a cheap but effective cover for my Kindle. After my What's in my bag post alot of you out there made me nervous about the fact I didn't have one. It's now safely resting inside a gaudy pink cover :) Phew!
Also I recently finished 2 books:
1) The Radleys by Matt Haig - if you are a fan of the vampire genre in any way, then I would recommend it. You will devour it (is that a pun...? :) within hours. It's an easy and humorous read that's neither as innocent as Twilight et al, nor as sexy-time focussed as True Blood. It actually presents quite an interesting take on the genre, with the story centered around a family of vampires in suburban England.
2) Grace Williams Says It Loud by Emma Henderson - I have to say this was a quite a difficult read. This is a no holds barred account of life in an institution and the narrator is Grace herself, a young girl who is physically and mentally impaired. The narrative is factual and unsentimental but the casual way she describes life in the institution just fills the reader with horror.
In light of the last book I have read I am lightening the load and focussing on trash. For example, I am currently reading about life inside the Playboy mansion by a disgruntled ex-Bunny. It's badly edited but salacious :)
What are you reading at the moment? And glad to be writing this post - I missed it :)
Happy Friday!!

ReplyDeleteLoveaudrey xXx
Oh my! I just love this outfit! I've been looking for a skirt like this for ages - I guess I just needed to take a trip to h&m ;) Love the Chanel bad as well - amazing! :D
ReplyDeleteI am reading the 4th book from the House of Night series at the moment. it's an easy read - high school level I would say, but I don't care, it's quite interesting. Bit different than all the other vampire books I've read so far :D
@ThePampered Sparrow - no i haven't so that's another one to add to the list :) thank you!

ReplyDeleteAhh so chic! I love the sunglasses and jacket especially. The Radleys sounds like it will have to be my next book for sure. Also I think the playboy bunny book sounds like it could make for a fun read! I'm currently reading Pride and prejudice.Love it. :) xxx
ReplyDeleteI've wanted every bit of clothes you've blogged on since you started back. Terrible. Also, I saw that H&M coat you have in real life - you are tall!! The thing was down to my ankles.
ReplyDeleteI'm on a auto/biography kick and Dietrich's is my current favourite. x
The jacket is lovely. Your love of jackets is inspiring me to give them a go. I've tried to add them to outfits before but always end up taking them off!
ReplyDeleteJust picked up Room and The Night Circus yesterday. Debating which one to start first...
@arachelsays
Love the cropped jacket! The outfit is girly and fun. :D Aww, I remember Dubai Summer months where your skin can't literally breathe because of the thick humid in the air. Haha. Very icky. :))
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday Laura! Love the outfit! At the moment I am finishing Sophie Kinsella's 20s girl, then on the In her Shoes (have the film and love it- hope the book is better! xx
ReplyDeleteYou look as per usual Laura! Love the skirt :)
ReplyDelete@lorraine - the camel coloured one? :)
ReplyDelete@Rachel - ooh i dont think i have looked into The Night Circus. Must have a nosey on Amazon :)
@Myrted - i walked for about 15 minutes today and i nearly died. sooo humid. can't even sit on the beach in this weather. too icky.
@Computergirl - oh my gosh that film has me in tears everytime i watch it. love it!
absolutely gorgeous outfit! so jealous of you being in dubai - i've never been before and would kill to go! i'm currently reading frankenstien by mary shelley for my english literature a-level. hard read but hoping it'll be worth it! X
ReplyDeleteahhh.. JBR. Think I need to pay another visit back to Dubai where my bro lives. Hes currently planning a move from JLT back to the marina so I can't wait to be able to walk to JBR once again, when the weathers a little cooler.
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit as always. I'm contemplating buying a pair of Tory Burch. xx
Yes, the camel one. I remember you posted you height and I thought you we're adding a few inches for luck but no! My sister could have sat on my shoulders in it. I will never doubt again :L
ReplyDeleteGorgeous outfit! So jealous of the sunshine :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this outfit! Not sure if I could pull of this skirt despite how much I love it, might have to go try it on in store xx

you look so nice i like it :*
ReplyDeletehttp://beautypinklove.blogspot.com/
Can you put a link to the jacket? i love it but can't find it on the topshop site (unless it's sold out :( ) xxShivvyxx
ReplyDeletecute. i love how you mixed black and brown, i always love wearing both shades together. i wonder who ever made that "no black/brown" rule. they clearly had no imaginiation. ;)
ReplyDeletelove how you post your thoughts on recent books. i have recently read "room" and "uglies". i thought room was a pretty easy read as well as "uglies". uglies is teen fiction, but im not ashamed, i like dabbling in that section sometimes :)

ReplyDelete@Small time queen - i know! i hate wearing this without a belt to hide the elastication :) Good after a big lunch though. heehee
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt - but I think it is a shame when they have elasticated waists.

ReplyDelete@pinky_mesha - haha thank you :)
ReplyDelete@Mary Kapsi - thank you so much Mary!
@MissExpensivePink - such fantastic books! i love the films too!
Super cute outfit Laura! I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love that skirt but not sure if my legs are long enough to carry it off:/ Have just finished reading The Truth About Melody Browne but I think, my book of the year is Beautiful by Katie Piper. If you haven't read it, I can not recommend it enough.
ReplyDeleteOh boy are you talking about Bunny Tales, I read that! What can I say I wanted to "know" what the heck is going on in that house. The authors law degree and how she insisted she was better than the other girls at the mansion was entertaining.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, gorgeous outfit! I was thinking of buying the Reva's too but was wondering about the sizing in them? I usually wear a UK size 5 :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those shoes. Oh my goodness. BTW - If it's too hot for OOTD posts, I'd love to see your favorite makeup items of the moment! I've always loved anything you've recommended!
ReplyDeleteI have this skirt nag love love love it! Wear it mega high tan sandals and grey loose tank and get sooo many compliments on it. Sadly prov won't get much opportunity to wear in blustery Ireland for s while :(

ReplyDeleteOutfit is beautiful as per! You know, i've NEVER wanted the amazon kindle before, because I like the idea of reading a proper book and I still do, but your posts always make me want one, and I may have to make a sneaky purchase! (it IS my 21st at the end of this month after all, who knows what money i'll get!) I like the idea that you can download a book anytime anywhere :) Are they cheaper then places like waterstones etc? xx
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful Laura! Where is your watch from? xx
ReplyDeletearrgghhhh...I dislike it when I am on the very bottom of the commenter :D
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I love everything as in the whole package es. the Chanel bag and the TB flat. After seeing this I want to buy the same color..Is that a red one ?
