New Look is out of control

Meet my new boots :)

The backstory

It was Kelanjo's post that initially piqued my interest - leopard print booties from New Look that I just could not forget.

Then, over the following week more and more bloggers and vloggers showcased their New Look goodies and I so a trip to the store was scheduled.

I love the New Look in Marina Mall - it's big, has a huge range and always seems to have the right sizes in stock.

In short, I went a bit mad.

I got a bag of clothing goodies...

...amazing blouses and dresses - some of which were massively reduced...

...but the highlight was to be found in the shoe department. I have long espoused New Look boots/shoes. I am convinced that they are excellent quality and obviously come at a fantastic price tag. I have boots, wedges and sandals from New Look that have lasted years without re-heeling requirements. Have I just got lucky?

Anyway, I got the boots that Kelanjo posted and a black pair...a hidden platform, deliciously chunky heel and tapered toe -  both pairs will look fantastic with black skinnies. Aah I cannot wait :)

Now I know that some people HATE animal prints. I get that but the inner Bet Lynch in me loves them. Pair with a minimal and de-slaggy outfit (i.e, no boobs or legs out) and you will be fine. Of course men often detest them but...sorry darling, take a good look and suck it up :)

PS. Links to the black boots are here and they are just £14.99 - Link! - (can't find the leopard ones)

And this might be my next pair! Glitter heel? Come on now!! - Link!

Some other news

1) I am currently reading The Happiness Project which I know a lot of you have already digested. Some of it seems like mumbo-jumbo but I like the jolt of pro-activeness it is currently giving me. Cue me making tons of to do lists :)
2) After I finish this I will resume serious fiction. I feel like it's been a while since I read a really noteworthy piece of literature as I have been drowning in chick-lit. I have to admit that it was of my own choosing - I just felt like reading some fluff. The last fluffy book was Hedge Fund Wives - I think the title tells you everything you need to know. I will make it up to my brain with S J Watson's Before I go to Sleep.
3) I cannot get Drive out of my head. It was hypnotic. I cannot think of another word to represent it. And I am not just referring to Ryan Gosling here. The way it was shot, the subtle acting, the soundtrack (already downloaded with A Real Hero pretty much on repeat)....mesmerizing. I urge you to all see it.

Have a fantastic Friday everyone :)

  6. I've been eyeing up those leopard boots for a while myself now, but think I mayyy just have to get the black ones, just to play it safe.
Ideally I hope to wear them during the day. I long to be one of those effortless women who just wear casual heels in the daytime and look lovely and chic, not hobble-y and overdone! xxx

  8. @La Petite Olga - thanks Olga!

@Hannah - do it! and i think the hidden platform will help us walk normally....i have realised that platforms are the only way forward as far as heels are concerned :)

  9. Ah you can never go wrong with a bit of leopard print - and these boots are no exception!

    I see leopard as a neutral...whether that's wrong or not, I don't care :)

  10. Such a good post! Saw those boots a while ago in New Look but decided against them because I wasn't sure they'd be comfortable. Please let us know the comfort-factor of them when you've worn them :)

  12. Laura, I just want to tell you my story today. I happened to be at the mall today searching for new boots and have been eyeing on the animal printed boots. I was debating whether to buy or not and ended up shopping for Engineer boots :) I just want to say, you always have the great taste for stuffs and I know you would rock those new babies :D

I haven't seen DRIVE but I want you to know how I adore Ryan Gosling so much. He's HOT isn't he.Kinda disappointed to see him dating with Eva though :D I wish he's still with Rachel LOL. Thanks for the recommendation on that movie and soundtrack.I would defo keep in mind.Happy weekend x

  13. I love Drive. I am literally obsessed with it. I just cannot get it out of my head. Especially the elevator scene and the bit when he is building an engine and she is having that welcome home party for Standard and there are alternating shots of them. I am obsessed with the song Nightcall from the soundtrack. Man-o-man, that film is haunting. I'm so glad someone was equally effected :)
Great post - I'm very, very tempted by those glittery heeled boots...

  14. In your opinion, is there an equivalent US brand that's similar to New Look? Can't wait for the clothing reveal in up coming posts!

Drive was indeed as you described. Based on the trailers (minus the one featuring THE kiss), I thought it was going to be more commercial. Glad to be surprised! Reminded me a little bit of The 25th Hour, older Spike Lee movie with Edward Norton. AMAZING. If you haven't seen it, YOU MUST!

Funny you mention men are not fans of animal print. I usually am not either, but this month's Birchbox came with some leopard print nail stickers and I thought, why not? Put them on the other night and the only comment boyfriend had was, must they be leopard? HA!

Birchbox is not proving to be THAT special, but somehow I can't bring myself to cancel!

  17. @Luckymirai - you Must add it to your to do list - Drive is well worth the view but be warned, it can be a little gory. I just loved all the layers and nuances of the film though. :)

@Angsthase - i know. it's just tense and moving and emotional and thrilling all at the same time. i absolutely loved it.

@Rachel - mmm not really sure. I was guessing Charlotte Russe but it's not as young as that really...and it's a bit more stylish. New Look is in a world of it's own :) I haven't seen The 25th Hour - I MUST now :)

    @M i s s a r c h - ooh good work! they are lovely :) and you are you a loser - pairing shoes and eyeshadow sounds sensible to me :)

  18. Gorgeous boots. I saw the print ones on Kellys blog and was tempted . . ! New Look shoes are so comfy. Actually quite like the look of the glitter boots but I always think you need to see glitter things in real life before you buy. Brought some black heels last year where the shoe part was black and the heels were metallic gold. That extra touch seems to make all the difference in dressing up the jeans I tend to live in!

  19. Seriously Laura you must read Nancy Mitford's "Love in a Cold Climate" & "The Pursuit of Love" {they come together often}. Just trust me. I get cravings to re-read it.

On the subject of leopard print, I bought a gorgeous leopard print blouse from new look today £16.99, let me explain, its actually gorgeous and I think you would love it laura! Its long sleeved, has black cuffs and collar and a black stripe down the middle where the buttons are, its so classy yet packs puch and a bit of an edge, I'm so happy I bought, it, couldn't find it on the website but have a hunt I think you will love it :). I'll more than likely do a post about it very soon.

  26. I advocate the purchase of NL footwear! I've had a pair of tan cowboy boots (!) for about 10yrs and they are still going strong. I think they've been in and out of fashion again 3 times! But, I love them.

  41. Laura! First, great boots. I'm one of those people that just can't.. do animal print. I like it on other people, but it just doesn't feel right on me!

Second, I agree with you on the fluff.. sometimes life just calls for something that doesn't take huge concentration to read, makes you happy, etc. etc. But I've been meaning to jump into some serious lit soon(or at least I keep promising myself).

Third -- DRIVE?! It was SO good. I love your description of it -- hypnotic is such an apt word, as after I saw it.. I couldn't quite describe how I felt(I knew I enjoyed it -- but it was a different kind of enjoyment). The way it was filmed was unbelievable and I believe it will be a cult classic. As for the soundtrack YOU MUST CHECK OUT NIGHT CALL. It has all the energy and style of the movie in a nice portable song. Check it out!! (A Real Hero is a close second, tied with Under Your Spell).

  42. New Look is... well, New Look but their shoes are really amazing! Never bought a pair that didn't last or get me compliments from unsuspecting randoms.
