I haven't worn a cowl neckline for years...literally years.
I remember it being all the rage when I was at university (circa 1998-2001) and I had a few from Wallis and Paul Smith that I whipped out for end of term formals...ah those were the days...since then though I haven't sported this kind of style at all.
That's a bit odd really because it's a fail-safe - a universally flattering line that suits all chest sizes and always makes you look like you made some effort.
ASOS describe this top as a "sexy cowl" and whilst I wouldn't go that far it's a really nice, versatile piece. The metalized material makes it worth of day and evening wear - wear it on it's own with trousers or under a structured masculine style suit.
I got it in the shade Champagne and it's a lovely metallic cream. I have to say though that I think would look even better on darker complexions than mine.
I wore it out for a little stroll around the marina...

Some FAQ
A big thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post by the way and to answer a few questions:
a) I still wear Studio Fix Fluid. The tiniest amount will make your skin look/photograph incredibly and this is why I have stuck with it for so many years. Yes, it stinks. No, it's not the most sophisticated of formulations but...it will make you look good. I wear the colour NC35 - sometimes this works for me and sometimes it doesn't shade-wise. On days when I look a bit pale it's back to the Chantecaille.
b) The necklace I wear is from Tiffany & Co and is the half carat Diamonds by the Yard. It's tiny but that's exactly why I like it.
c) The eye make up in the last post was basically Urban Decay's Naked all over the crease and NARS Night Clubbing smeared - and quite literally smeared - around the lashline. I finish this off with LOTS of MAC's Grand Entrance eyeshadow (LE). I am a big believer in the obnoxious inner corner highlight and it's part of my daily ritual.
d) I use a Canon 550d for all my photos. Canon no longer sell this model but I am a huge fan of their DSLR cameras and would recommend them to anyone. This coupled with a 50mm lens is a fantastic combination. The 50mm is a must - it helps create the type of photos that were the entire reason I bought a DSLR in the first place :)
I hope you all had/are having a lovely weekend :)

You are always so chic Laura! Truly an inspiration
ReplyDeleteI love the top, it looks a bit like a ballet wrap, although that may just be the colour that draws me to that conclusion. Enjoyed reading your post as always. Look forward to the next one x x

Beautiful top and the colour goes so well with your bag. I love mixing pastels.
ReplyDeleteBetter on darker complexions? Now I definitely HAVE to get one! :)

ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Sunday!
@Diary of a country girl - thank you! love your username!
ReplyDelete@what the shoe - you're right! they should call it pink champagne :)
@Glitterish Allsorts - definitely :) it looks okay on me but i think will really flatter anyone with a lovely olive or darker complexion :)
@Supergirl - thank you and you too!
I have been looking for something like this for such a long time now, the colour, material and style are perfect for those nights out when you want to wear jeans and a top this party season, because it doesn't call for a full on dress etc - thanks for the recommendation Laura! x
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely - I avoid cowl necks too as I think they can hide your boobs and you can lose your waist. You prove this isn't always the case! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the pants. Or well trousers :-) I think they fit beautifully and the colour is to die for!
ReplyDeletex
Lovely top, the colour is lovely. I used to have bright red cowl necked top, which I used to pair with black Topshop velvet-esque trousers. What was I thinking?!x
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your jet setting giving you a all year around tan.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of different foundations I have depending on how tanned varies from ivory to quite dark in the summer. :(
Such a pretty top. Nice to see the sunshine too xx
ReplyDeleteI love that top! It looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit fits you so well!! <3
ReplyDeleteMaybe a stupid question but I'm a new follower..can I ask you what did you study at University??
<3
i so agree about the 50mm lens. everyone that owns a DSLR needs one. it creates the most beautiful images even if you have no idea about photography. best portraits ever!
ReplyDeleteThe top is a really great thing to have in the wardrobe. :) The neckline style really gives that oomph to make it a step up from the usual. :)
ReplyDeletegreat outfit!
ReplyDeletelove the colour of the top

I love that top, cowl neckline tops are things I usually save for meetings since like you said it can make you look like you've put a lot of effort in. Damn I would love to be able to wander around with that view next to me!

Awe I love the drapy look of it! And I think the color is perfect! Not too bright but definantely not too plain, perfect balance!
ReplyDeleteHey Laura, thank you for answering my foundation question :) I went to my local MAC counter to ask to be colour matched and for a sample of studio fix to try. You can imagine my apprehension when the girl who greeted me had a thick layer of orange foundation on!She then proceeded to ask whether I wanted my foundation to match my skin tone? ERM......YES! So she gave me NW22, I am a bit reluctant to try it to be honest, it looks very dark/pinky and I'm not sure if I trust her judgement! Maybe I should go to another counter for a second opinion!??

I love this top! Weird, but it reminds me of Sarah Michelle Gellar? Haha Love your blog!
