Groomed!

I spent some serious time watching Tamara Ecclestone: Billion Dollar Girl the last few days and I think that is what inspired me. I needed to get groomed this weekend.

So this weekend we did nails and we did hair :)

Nails first

The bi-weekly manicure/pedicure/threading session has become an embarrassingly expected ritual. The nail element is always Gelish. I was meant to have my two week break from this gel technology but um.....I haven't got round to that yet. I love it's longevity and I love the fact that my nails actually grow when I have it on.

This time though I stepped away from the neutral pinks and dove into something a bit more fitting to the season - I went for a vampy shade that reminded me of Chanel's Rouge Noir.

Rather fittingly this is called "All about me". After I was told this my decision was made. Can you say narcissist? It was meant to be.

I love the richness of this colour. I would describe it as a deep merlot and I am so happy that I went for it.

Hair second

You all know I am not that keen on haircuts. I like my hair long and I am, quite frankly, scared of hairdressers. Even the hairdresser that I love the most in the UK (Lesley at Ledbury McIntyre) has often chopped off more than I asked. I fear - rather than relish - the haircut.

But crappy ends do not look good and as my hair is naturally a very dry texture, the longer I avoid a cut, the worse it gets.

So it was time.

I went to Jetset in JBR - the place I went to about 6 weeks ago for colour...

...and dove in with a cut and a colour refresh. I wanted root touch up and more highlight flashes. And that's what I got.

I also got a cut but I am so happy about this - I asked for a tiny trim and that's exactly what I got. She chopped away the ends that needed to go but still kept the length. Hairdressers always promise the latter but seldom deliver - this time it actually happened and I am so happy/relieved.

The only "lost in translation" moment occurred in the blow dry. I wanted beach waves but ended up with what I would call "FOX newsreader hair" - ie, very big, bouncy and to be honest, a bit scary.

Obviously I immediately came home and brushed it out and it now looks more normal. Phew! :)

So here's the before - freshly washed, air-dried hair, wrapped in a bun for an hour to give some texture and wave...but obviously looks a bit sh*t :)

...and after....bouncy, healthy and a little more put together!

It feels good to be a little bit more groomed. Of course, it's  seriously indulgent to invest so much time and thought into the external but I just know that you guys understand :)

Now I am thinking about what else I could do...did you know I have never had a spray tan in my life? I think this could be next :)

What beauty treatment makes you feel good?

  2. Don't be so silly! :) Your hair looks in no way sh*t in the first pick! I wish mine went like that being left in a bun! It does look lovely afterwards though, very shiny!

  5. Loved this post Laura!
I have been watching the Tamara Ecclestone series too- how amazing is her wardrobe?!! My favourite beauty treatment is definitely getting my eyebrows threaded- it makes such a difference to the look of my makeup- much more neat and tidy!! I love getting manicures too- I have been loving the new Chanel colour in Rouge Carat- it's a beautiful, festive red.
Hope you have a great weekend :)

  6. I love the shade of the nails. How do you feel gelish affects your nails? I know they say that theres no harm done and all, but im a bit skeptical.
Your hair has so much volume, im so jealous. I hate going to the hairdresser, because i have not yet found a single one that doesnt listen 100% to me.

  8. Love the nails, such a good color on you and as you say very fitting for the season! Looks like it suits your skintone very well, wich is always a struggle for me with everything that has some red in it. I am very pale and some reds just look off on me. Omg, how can I be rambling in a comment!? Some of you must have rubbed off on me ;) Your hair looks lovely, you are now my hair inspiration! I am trying to grow it out wich is such a struggle as I am so inpatient ;) Wish you a fantastic weekend :)

  9. Ooo I have a very similar colour on my nails from nails inc (well I say on... but its badly chipped. Of course I fully intended to sport the 'trendy chipped look' :S) I hate it when hairdressers chop lots of my hair. It's nearing waist length so needs a trim.. not sure I can brave it!! xx

  10. Hey Laura!

Your hair looks lovely, much richer and healthier!
I too hate hairdressers, and recently asked for a hint of warmth to my all over dark brown and came away with glowing red roots and very red hair! They had to correct it of course! SCARY STUFF!!

I keep meaning to ask you, which conical wand do you use and would your recommend the one you have or another brand? Your hair always looks fab when you've used it!

I too have never had a spray tan! Feeling a little pasty though as the winter draws in in the UK!

Love your blog, your a great writer!
Love the satire! Always makes me giggle!

  12. very lovely hair. One of my favourite beauty treatments to receive are facial aesthetic and whole body Swedish massage. I always feel so pampered.
Btw, I checked the Canmake lipsticks you mentioned and found other colors that interest me..like the Pink Marshmallow and Sweet Cherry. xx

  13. I love Gelish - haven't tried their vampy shades but I need to find a good manicurist in London who does it now.

Love your hair, by the way.

  14. i so wish i had enough time for a good grooming but most of the time what i look like takes a back seat. i really want to try some gel nails too so hopefully i'll find somewhere near me that does them! your hair looks gorgeous as well laura X

  15. Yeah, you should def give spray tans a chance... a bit weird getting the boobs out for the first time, but you soon get used to it! haha. I go to a place that uses sienna x, it's all natural ingredients and gives a really natural look on my skin. Fades nicely too, so no nasty patchy bits!! I was recommended sienna x by a really picky friend who spent AGES researching before her first spray tan :) Def worth seeing if anywhere does it over your way.

  16. Your hair look gorgeous! I don't get my nails done too often, but it's a nice treat when I do.

  17. ohhh I love your hair, it looks so bouncy and healthy!! I used to always get 'the fear' when going to the hairdressers but think ive got it sussed now, I still come home each time and completely re-style it, hate when it looks too 'done' lol

  20. @luckymirai - ooh they sound lovely and a big yes to massages! they are true indulgence but one that is well worth it :)

    @Clare - thank you Clare :)

@beth sutton - definitely give gel nails a whirl. they are pretty life-changing :) haha

@Charlotte's Collection - thank you for the recommendation. I have always wondered how they fade so to hear that it's a nice effect is good. Will give it a whirl before xmas :)

@Jen Ummm - thank you so much Jen!

@PinkGlitter - LOVE manicures. they are always so worth it if only for the cuticle work!

@Ash - same. i can't not fiddle with it. normally i just wash it and restyle it but i will leave this for a while :)

@brandi72 - now i have seriously contemplated flying to him before. i need to do that. i trust him and i don't even know him :) haha

    @Zoe - thanks Zoe!

  21. @melissa - ah no. i have been there with the colour correction. Total nightmare. I use a Babyliss conical wand at the moment. Does the job well and cost about £30 in Sally's in the UK! :)

@ritas88 - woah ! thank you so much. it's taken me years to grow my hair. it's so frustrating but it grows incredibly slowly. good luck with yours!

  22. Well done you on getting the hair cut. My side layers desperatly need some shaping but I just know the hairdressers won't stop there and I can't summon the courage! Your hair looks great and still, long. Really like the flashes and that nail colour is lovely. I've found that the couple of facials I have had were overpriced but so relaxing.

  39. I've never had a spray tan either! I enjoy getting my hair cut, but getting it colored is a nightmare to me. I have also had my cuticles cut a few times by different manicurists so I think I have a small fear of going... Your hair looks great!

  40. Beautiful nails, beautiful hair! I love the blow dry job, I wish someone could give me that here!
Full body massage, now that's a great treatment :)

  41. That's settled it, Rouge Noir will have to be bought! I really like the length and shape of your nails - very chic.

I also have that problem with hairdressers, whenever I ask for beach waves I always seem to leave with big culs that look so dated. :) x

  45. Of course getting the hair and nails done feel spectacular! (I recently did this for myself) The only way it can be improved upon is to top it off with a very indulgent massage!!! OOh Im getting Ideas.

Last indulge: During a stressful/insulting moment I quickly removed myself and went to nail spa for the most decadent pedicure they offered. Nothing beats someone rubbing your feet. NOTHING.

  70. I do enjoy getting my hair done but as my natural hair texture is awful there's absolutely nothing I can do to maintain a style/cut myself so I just keep it simple - trims only. I don't really want to waste money on such a frizzball head of hair seeing as I spend quite enough on hair products alone to keep it tamed slightly.

Your post-salon pic looks fab though :D Wouldn't it be nice to be able to re-create and maintain that ourselves 'ey? I wish!
