Gelish Snow Bunny + The Must-Have Polish List

I had it all worked out. I was going to get a festive-type manicure and rather than opting for an obvious red, I would go with white.

I absolutely love white on the nails and so I was excited. I even decided to go all out and get a layer of glitter polish applied on top. My intentions were good.

It's a shame then that the execution was just "okay".  The white was not tippex/white-out enough and the glitter not opaque enough. So near to what I wanted but so far....

However, I refuse to be one of those odious women that have a tantrum and force the manicurist to remove and reapply the colour because they "don't feel it". I have seen it happen and you just end up looking like a fussy bitch.

And you know what? I like it. It's soft, pretty and sparkles well under artifical and bright sunlight. That will do me for the next two weeks:

Gelish Snow Bunny + Golden Treasure

The Must-Have Polish List

Of course if I get bored I can always paint over the top with a regular polish.

This is something I have yet to try and I was pondering what colour I would go for the other day. By the same token, that thought ended up with a mental list of my all time favourite polishes. These were the ones that I would immediately reach for if I had to paint my nails "something". In no particular order...

* Chanel Particuliere - the ultimate colour so perhaps I lie when I say "no particular order".  Colour family: mud.

* Barry M Lilac - the prettiest lilac polish and one that always gets compliments. All of Barry M's polishes are great to be honest but this one makes me coo every time.

* OPI Mod About You - a flight risk (it will always explode) and a consistency of tar once left for a few months but...nothing comes close to the blue toned pink shade. I am on bottle number 3.

* * OPI Pandamonium Pink - if Mod About You channels "Barbie" a little too hard then this is a softer alternative. It also has a stronger purple tone that underpins it. Was told by another customer in a nail bar in London that it looked "well nice" when I had it applied. So there you go.

* OPI Vodka & Caviar - a true red with a brightness that somehow makes it modern. I also love the name.

* Essie East Hampton Cottage - when applied by a professional this will make your nails look like pearls. Note, when applied by me it looks like crap.

* China Glaze Ruby Pumps - is it possible for a polish to hold memories? Because this does. This was at the start of the YT community boom and it was a good time filled with fantastic recommendations. I remember buying this at Sally's and its the most stunning, glitter-filled red.

* Revlon Cherries in the Snow - a rich raspberry that can be sported with the lipstick of the same name for the ultimate in matchy-matchy.

* Bourjois Rose Lounge - groomed nails a la KMidd. Great consistency and quality. This is the nail polish equivalent of MAC Hue lipstick. Non-offensive and natural.

* Nailstation's Dapple Grey - I have only ever seen this brand in Dubai and sure, this colour is dupe-able but its a fantastic creamy mid-grey. Not too light, not too dark. This brand also has about 30 variations on the taupe....*I die* everytime I walk past it in Debenhams.

* OPI Lincoln's - I say plural as there are two variations on the dark/black/purple/plum and I love them both and consider them equally essential.

Okay...

I am going to cut myself off here as I have realised, in the process of writing these out, that I could literally go on forever.

Unfortunately what this post has also done is remind me of how much pleasure I used to get from eBay polish haulin'. I might just have a quick look at my favourite store.... :)

What does your must-have polish list look like?

  3. @Kellyyes - i LOVE the look of flip flop fantasy. I will have to try it out one of these days.

@Michelle - thanks Michelle - Sand Tropez is a pretty nude so good choice! :)

  4. I actually really like the colour, I am glad that you didn't get the manicurist to change it! xx

  5. I'm loving the delicate sparkle of your manicure. So happy to read your np recs, you always have the BEST recs in the blogosphere.
I'm currently wearing a gorgeous rosy nude shade by joe fresh, but the concept is better than the reality as it is too close to my nail color to show up!

  6. A few of my favorites would be from Essie (when Essie is bad, it's bad, but when it's good, it's really good): Sew Psyched, School of Hard Rocks, Playa del Platinum and definitely Merino Cool and Angora Cardi. OPI Ski Teal we Drop, Jade is the New Black, Lincoln Park After Dark and Big Apple Red are also musts for me. And I do love me some Illamasqua polish, too!

  7. I'm wearing Ruby Pumps over Zoya Isla right now and love it! I'd forgotten how pretty it is. I had a bottle of Mod About You but I didn't get on with it at all - it looked really cheap on me, so I gave it away to someone who made it look much better. I might try OPI Pandamonium Pink. I've always liked the look of OPI Vodka & Caviar too.

I still love China Glaze For Audrey and Barry M British Racing Green. Both are amazing colours :)

  8. OPI Vodka & Caviar is amazing. I like Lincoln park after dark but I choose OPI Siberian knights over it anyday! It applies smoother for me.

  9. Great post, love your nails! For me, must-haves include Essie's Mint Candy Apple and Sand Tropez, and Chanel's Black Pearl. :)

  10. Heard so much about Revelon's Cherries in the Snow! I must try it out. My go-to nail polish is Essie's Tiny Wine-y!

  11. Ooh the nails look gorgeous :) Fave nail polishes would be Opi's You Don't Know Jacques (fond memories!) and China Glaze's Sea Spray and Pelican Grey polishes.

  12. love this list, i agree with most of them!

  13. I totally agree with several of these.

I too love OPI Mod About You. It was just on my blog a few weeks ago.

I also just got Ruby Pumps but haven't worn it yet.

As for other favs, I can't choose really, I have too many, mostly their OPI.

But I was thinking about your manicure. Have you tried China Glaze 'Snow Globe' over a plain white polish. That could give you the effect you were after. I tried that a few weeks ago and I'm going to re-do it again soon. Snow globe is a white glitter which sparkles soft pink and bluey turquoise tones. Its really irredescent.

  14. My polish lust list is:

*Chanel Particuliere as my favourite mud colour.
*Essie Neo Whimsical as my favourite pale pink/lilac
*Essie Mint Candy Apple is definitely my favourite pastel
*OPI Comet Loves Cupid is the best red for me its just so bright and perfect for my skin tone.
*My favourite dark would be either OPI Black Cherry Chutney which looks black/super dark purple but under light it comes alive or for straight up dark I wear OPI Give Me Moor which has a super glossy creme finish.
*My favourite glitter polish is China Glaze Ring in the Red which has over taken Ruby Pumps for me. Its the perfect glittery red.

Honourable mentions - Chanel Orange Fizz, Chanel Black Pearl, OPI De-signer De-better, OPI Diva of Geneva, OPI Russian Navy and OPI Rainbow Connection.

  17. Oooh what a difficult request! I think my desert island polishes would be,
    OPI Black Onyx,
    Essie Mint Candy Apple,
    OPI Over The Taupe,
OPI Comet Loves Cupid or OPI Colour So Hot It Berns they are identical,
    Nails Inc Aspen,
    OPI Shorts Story
OPI William Tell Me About OPI
    and Essie Going Incognito!

I'm sure I could spend hours doing a list but I'd be happy with that lot for a bit! xx

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd agree with your Rose Lounge and Vodka & Caviar... very essential! I'd also add Essie 'Topless & Barefoot' and OPIs 'Barefoot in Barcelona' xx

  19. Ooh i love the look of your nails, it looks more original than getting the normal "white out effect". Right now my list is ...

    Essie Mint Candy Apple
    Chanel Particuliere
OPI/Sephora Leaf Him at the Altar
    OPI Bogota Blackberry

    :)

  21. Great list of polishes! I don't think I have absolute favorites that I can list because I tire of one color quickly, thus my collection is getting a bit out of hand... I think I will try to look for Revlon Cherries in the Snow (I don't own too many reds yet ;)!) and I really should try one of the Lincoln's as those are truly cult favorites and I feel my collection will never be complete without one version or the other! ;)
I really like the combo you chose for this post! Very pretty and wintery!

  22. You are so right there is nothing worse than watching some bratty lady having a bitch fit about how the manicurist didn't see their vision of polish perfection! I actually really like the subtleness of your manicure, it reminds me of snow and frost :). My desert island polish without a shadow of a doubt is OPI Barefoot in Barcelona x

  23. Your mani looks great, very subtle and sophisticated. And thanks for the list of polishes, I'm gonna head out tomorrow to pick up the ones that I'm missing!

  24. This list is great! I agree on half of them and the other half is already on my wish list.

I adore the Snow Bunny gelish, it makes your nails look so elegant and classy!
    Have a great week, Laura!

  26. Okay, I thought FOR SURE Sephora by OPI's Metro Chic would have made the list! lol It's one that definitely makes mine along with Rimmel's 'Steel Gray' and Sally Hansen's 'Slick Slate', which are all the same color [but I all three are essential in my book ; )
    ].
A recent purchase, but a fast favorite, is L'Oreal's 'Cockatoo's Mystery' - a dreamy gray/lilac color that applies beautifully.

I love OPI's 'Pandamonium Pink' as well, but I need about 3 coats for it to appear opaque and non-streaky.

Essie's 'Glamour Purse' - As gorgeous as a brown can get IMO.

Ulta's 'Bam-Blue-Zled' - A lovely periwinkle that's more on the blue side and is just about opaque in only coat. Really great quality for the price.

Lastly, Zoya's 'Kelly' - A great mix between purple, grey, and blue. And it really does live up to the Zoya claim that it's the longest lasting "natural" nail varnish.

Anyway, these are the ones I always find myself going back to
    xx. Kasie

  27. LOVE YOUR MANI, GIRRRL!

I'm such a huge fan on creamy, milky nails. Love tip ex styley nails too, haha :)

Vodka & Caviar is definitely one of my fave reds at the moment.

Have you tried Essie's Allure? Such a gorgeous creamy, milky shade (how many times have I used those 2 words??!) xo

    ReplyDelete
  28. Its cute!! Ugh I have no idea why but all the varnishes I am attached to were LE :(
I guess with the execption of Illamasqua collide I have NO List!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Illamasqua Bacterium is my all-time favourite. Highly recommend; it's a great taupe/oyster shade.

Other essentials are Essie: Bordeaux, Geranium and Jazz, Barry M Navy, Models Own: Nude Beige and Champagne, OPI: William Tell Me About It, Barefoot in Barcelona and Berries in the Canaries.

  30. These are quite subtle, but they're so pretty! I'm not fussy about brands but a pale lilac and black-red polish top my list! xx

  31. I love white nail varnish, everyone thinks I'm insane whenever I paint my nails white as they're convinced I'm obsessed with Tippex.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I had the same thought of using white instead of red for the holiday. My combination of Essie Marshmallow and Essie Shine of the Times was a major success! Strangers took my hands (without even asking) to examine my nails. Just a suggestion for another time :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ahh such a great list, really need to get some of those! I love the manicure you had, your nails look so gorgeous!

  35. Chanel 'Gondola' is beautiful! I also love Nails Inc 'Basil Street', it's the perfect nude. When I don't know how to paint my nails I go for Chanel 'Rose Confidentiel'. I agree with Barry M's Lilac. no7's 'Grey Skies' is lovely as well as OPI 'Stranger tides' :D
