I think I had a perfect day yesterday and it was one of those moments when I thought "I really like living in Dubai".
A lot of it probably has a lot to do with the fact that I was sitting beach-side, enjoying the sun rays in December. During the week, when I am working, I don't fully appreciate where I am currently living. It's nice to see sun every day but you get wrapped up in the responsibilities of report deadlines and the like. I got a little reminder yesterday that with a little effort and by heading to the right destination you can really feel like you have taken a mini-holiday.
So yesterday I "wasted" a lot of the day at The Jetty at The One & Only Royal Mirage hotel. It's tucked away, near the Palm and the Marina and is the perfect beach bar - and therefore my new home on Fridays.
White and purple decor, refreshing cocktails and chilled out tooooons. I fell in love with the place a little more when they played All I Need by Air - one of my favourite tracks of all time. Oh yes.
I wore my old shirt dress by Cheap Monday. It ended up being the perfect piece. Light enough to avoid me feeling sweaty but "dressed" enough so I didn't feel out of place. Add sunglasses and Bob's your Uncle.
Here are some pictures of the place, a few of an impromptu air show that appeared out of nowhere and some obligatory shots of me me me! ;)

Such a fantastic place! If you are in Dubai or planning to visit, definitely head here for a few hours. Nasimi Beach at Atlantis is similar but can get ridiculously busy - The Jetty is far more relaxed.
And there's more...
The only way to end a day like this is with a little mall action and Pinkberry.
For that I added my Cheap Monday jeans. Whilst I don't mind wearing something as short as the shirt dress at the beach, where you are surrounded by flesh, it doesn't translate so well in an indoor mall. I wouldn't walk around Westfield in Shepherd's Bush in something this short - let alone the Mall of the Emirates.
It was a good call and honestly, I love the two pieces paired together.
There was some serious spending done at Illamasqua in Harvey Nichols (excited!) and consuming of Pinkberry....
Okay, so the chocolate looks a little "number two" but...it's so good.

Shirt dress: Cheap Monday - Link!
Belt: American Apparel (NOTE TO SELF: MUST BUY MORE OF THESE)
Shoes: Tory Burch
Bag: Balenciaga
I am quite interested to know this as I am quite nosey...do you have a little oasis of your own where you live - somewhere that makes you feel rested and new even after a few hours?
In London it used to be the cafe/bar at the Charlotte Street Hotel during summertime (such good memories!)
Look forward to reading your comments :)

ReplyDeleteI'm currently living in Paris and the Cour Carrée at the Louvre makes me feel like this - the high walls block out all the sound of the traffic and there's often someone playing music. That mixed with the sound of fountains - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI would love to be there right now! Loved the dress and I guess it was the right thing to wear.
ReplyDeleteI guess my secluded place is my garden! I can wear what I want, do what I want and no one can say anything. I have a South facing garden so I get the sun most of the day. My dog loves being in the sun too so we look like 2 old ladies having a chat and sitting looking in the same direction ;) X
@Jmccloskey - wow! i have never been to paris. that sounds really beautiful!
ReplyDelete@Mercedes - Ms Purple Makeup - i can already tell i am going to love the comments on this post because the comment about your garden made me smile. It sounds lovely - a suntrap where you can do whatever the hell you like. Perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be lounging at a Jetty right about now!! It's freezing here in Nottingham!!! I'm having a boring Saturday morning so thanks for the interesting post!!! Lovely photos and love the outfit!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work on your blog!!! I really enjoy reading it :)
These are such beautiful photos, I'd love to go to Dubai! The little shirt dress is super cute, I'm hoping it goes down in the sale.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I think Thailand is my favourite place in the world and I feel super calm and 'zen' there. We visited this little remote village and there was a gorgeous pool that was completely blue, fresh and translucent - just so gorgeous! Just sat there and whiled the day away. Perfect. xXx
Generally I head down to Embankment for a bit of me time. I know there are a lot of people but I love the bustle of London combined with the anonymity. I am actually trying to get a job in Dubai now though, for various reasons, so feeling very motivated to keep searching if that’s hopefully where I’ll end up. Great post.
ReplyDeleteWish I could be at Jetty right now! There used to be a little café in Munich which was my place to go but unfortunatelly it closed down few years ago and now I'm still on a hunt for a right place.

La Petite Olga
@Amelia - i think it was definitely overpriced so i think it will. looks great with tights too! :) That village sounds perfect!
ReplyDelete@Discovering Beauty - best of luck in your search! The work culture here is very full on but there are some lovely places to visit and enjoy so I guess it balances out.
@La Petite Olga - i love little cafes too. There are some lovely ones in the UK that I often think about :)
I wish I had a nice little haven to go to :) looks like a beautiful place X
ReplyDeleteAny post with Pinkberry in it makes me very happy!
ReplyDelete*Note to self: re-arrange your business life so you can go live in a place where beach time is possible in December.*
ReplyDeleteThere are quite a few little towns in my are that are really old and still have old little streets and old roman churches and old renaissance houses... I love going there for a walk, have a drink outside one of the small places, and have a little shopping action while I'm at it :)
The sea isn't too far either, 2 hours driving, but it gets ridiculously crowded as soon as there's a sunny week-end - and in Wintertime, all that grey water is just depressing so that's a no-no.
I live in Townsville in North Queensland Australia. My haven is the Strand, a bustling beachfront area here.
ReplyDeleteprague castle on a weekday at night, you can be the only one there looking out on the whole city lit up...its so beautiful.

it looks like a lil paradise on earth for me who is sitting in a dark rooms with rain outside and sinking into books for Master classes ... oh life...
ReplyDeleteyou got a tan or it's just pretty work with bronzer? (if so, which one? :))
take care XO
Your photos of the air show are so amazing. Brilliant. My little oasis is the Macdonald Hotel Bath Spa hotel's gym and spa. Such a wonderful place to relax by the pool or just cuddle up in a calm, dark room with a magazine wearing a white fluffy robe. Bliss!

I was living in Dubai for about 4 years and right now with this lovely photos I miss there again so much ,to be honest in Dubai I always felt (ok! On weekends let's say) I'm in a vacation since there was somany places to plan a relaxing and joyful weekend:))) now living in Toronto and really miss somany things in Dubai , specially in this wintery chilled days..
ReplyDeleteI like the Charlotte Street hotel too, but that place definitely beats it!
ReplyDeletePosts like this always make me want to move countries... I need to find new places to explore!
I'm so jealous, I would love to visit Dubai. The closest I've got is a stop-over at Dubai airport haha!

ReplyDeleteSTYLE DECORUM
Oh I love the Charlotte St Hotel too, will you be back in the UK soon? x
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteOh Laura, That really looks relaxing and fun and isn't it lovely to top it off with Desert and one or two pretty things.
ReplyDeleteI miss summer weather, the bar looks just like what I need. Would love to see your Illamasqua haul too. :)
ReplyDeleteyour photographs are just beautiful, i love them! xx
ReplyDeleteFAB photos, I am so jel! I live in Hitchin, a small Hertfordshire town, and we have this cosy little deli/tea room called Halseys. I like tucking myself into a corner to have a good natter with friends over brunch - I recommend the homemade baked beans on toast!! x x
ReplyDelete@Sian - omg i LOVE baked beans on toast. sounds like a perfect little haven :)
ReplyDeleteI used to live in Dubai and I can still remember how peaceful it was (this was before they decided to build craploads of towering buildings). I loved going to Jumeirah and hanging with my cousins.
ReplyDeleteThere was a beach, I can't remember the name but i remember it had a grassy park near it and it was heaven for me as a 5 year old! Can't believe I can still remember that...
The airshow looks fabulous! x
For me in London it's absolutely Edgware Road, especially in the summer, having a grape-mint shisha! watching the people go by... :)
ReplyDeletethat's it - I'm coming to visit!! haha one of my good friends is moving to Abu Dhabi in January for work so it's finally an extra motivator to head out there in the next year for a visit - it's been on my mind for so long.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos and post!
when I need a bit of a getaway in my boring canadian town I head on over to my favourite bookstore, coffee in hand, and browse for a couple of hours. it always makes me feel better and more serene.
xx
Laura these photos are dreamy, what a great way to spend the weekend! Will you be coming home to freezing cold England for Xmas? You look lovely as usual :) x
ReplyDeletewhen i went to London for a week this past summer i made sure to get afternoon tea at the charlotte street hotel and you are soo right - it's such a lovely locale and everyone looked incredibly well put and stylish! and the service was just impeccable - i was thoroughly impressed.
ReplyDeleteYou have such a lovely life. You look beautiful :). X
ReplyDeleteWow, it's like I got a little mini vacation just reading your post! :) For me, driving over an hour to the gulf is relaxing and makes me feel like I'm taking a vacation. I've only recently moved to a place that is within driving distance near a large body of water, so I'm still excited about it! I just need to find somewhere else I can visit that is even closer so I can get away even more often! :D
ReplyDeleteI really love your outfit combo, and that is a brilliant idea to add jeans to a shorter shirtdress. I will have to give that a try!
Wow, that beach bar looks great! I can almost feel the warm sun (despite the fact that it's gray and wintery here in Canada). A "happy place" for me is the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris. I could honestly spend hours upon hours strolling through the gardens, lounging in the sun, people-watching, and having a picnic with some wine and cheese and fresh baguettes. It is an oasis in a beautiful city :)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that looks like an incredibly beautiful and relaxing spot! I wish I had an oasis like this, I guess living by the coast just sitting on a bench, cuddled up to someone ideally and looking out to sea is as lovely as it gets, I love it even better when it's cold and the beach is abandoned and your wrapped up warm. Your shirt dress is such a good buy, looks lovely with the jeans too!
ReplyDeletewishfulsinfulyou.blogspot.com
Stunning photos as usual! I've been following your blog for a while but have become even more interested recently as I discovered that I too would be living in Dubai very soon! My husband went ahead yesterday and I follow on in the new year! Can't wait to discover Dubai for myself - any must know tips before I arrive?!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo jealous!! I live in Amsterdam and weather is so miserable here, i got a bit teary eyed when i saw those perfect palm beach pictures.. My oasis right now is the couch, a hot chocolate and a christmas-y movie..
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't believe there's another human being on this planet who loves All I Need by Air as much as me!! :D Its one of my most played on my Ipod together with Hayling by FC Kahuna!
Gorgeous as always! Perfect backdrop as well.. I'd love to visit Dubai one of these days..
ReplyDeleteIf there's something like an Oasis in Leeds I'm yet to find it! :) Than God I'm heading back home for X-mas (Rio de Janeiro) and will be able to chill at Ipanema Beach.
ReplyDeleteI live in Florida and there is a little hotel bar near me that is outside right on the beach. That's my little escape from reality place and it's called The Lemon Bar. We also have pretty warm weather all year round so I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteWow! its beautiful where you are!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.shellzdoll.com/
There are some woods near to where I live and a stroll through there clears my head so perfectly and it's so serene!

I would love to know if you live with a partner over in dubai? I was thinking of looking for jobs over their after a graduate as ive heard its good for my field. The law with no marriage and that puts me of a little it would be great if you could do a post on things like that.
ReplyDeleteYour blog seriously just makes me want to go live their even more!
xxx
Wow, look, how blue that sky is. Sigh . . ! Loved the look of that Cheap Monday dress the first time you posted it. Great post, your hair colour looks amazing too x Always things to yearn for or aspire to on your blog, Laura :)
ReplyDeleteI moved up to the gold coast, Australia a year ago for Law School and couldn't be happier. The warm beautiful weather makes it so difficult to concentrate on cases. My area to relax is the board walk just by my apartment. I'm surrounded with water inlets, its fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAlso I agree with Ellena- I would love to hear more about Dubai.
ooooh i spy some hummus <3 nom nom (oh dear, i'm such a pig)
ReplyDeletemay we have a post about your illamasqua purchases? :)

i'm so jealous of you living in dubai! england is so wet and dull and cold and i would LOVE to be able to just hop on a plane to somewhere warm! and i have to say that all these posts of your time in dubai have me longing to visit there so badly! the air show looks like it was amazing too! i have to say that i'm very jealous of the fact you have a place like this. i really wish i did because it would be nice to just go to a little cafe or bar on your own and just read a book or something. unfortunately, i am still on the look out for such a place :( X
ReplyDeleteWe have a Pinkberry in the UK now :]
ReplyDeleteHave you also seen the film 'The princess and the Marine'? It remind me of the Middle East, even though it's based on a Bahrain princess - touching story, but not sure if it's your type.
ReplyDeleteI picked up this shirt dress in the ASOS half price sale after seeing it on you but I've yet to wear it as the prospect of donning it in a baltic Belfast was frankly scaring me. Can't believe I didn't think to wear it as a tunic top with jeans. Consider this idea (along with many others :) well and truly stolen xxx
ReplyDeleteLove love love Cheap Monday. Everywhere is an oasis at this time of year in Australia but Circular Quay is a particular favourite!

ReplyDeleteI lived in Dubai for 8 years and are here visiting my family for 3 months now - the weather is so amazing at this time of year! I love the waterfront at DFC even though it can get really busy there on the weekend. JBR & the Marina are awesome as well and look lovely at night. Hopefully bump into you sometime :) x
ReplyDeleteI love Dubai, you're so lucky to live there. It's such a beautiful country! I love the malls aswell.
ReplyDeleteSpa O in chicago for a pedicure/shoulder massage. i leave there and my troubles have just melted away
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is almost identical to my latest "go-to" outfit - top from Sportsgirl and Cheap Monday 'very dark, very narrow' jeans <3 and minus the jeans when at the beach house! Perfect!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I did not know that you lived in Dubai! I could have sworn that I saw you in a mall here a couple of weeks ago!:s So strange! haha

Kiss,
sara
Oh, I found you! Have missed your youtube channel .. but glad you have another creative outlet.
ReplyDeleteAnd to answer your question: Our little oasis is the Hotel Del in Coronado, CA. My husband and I will sometimes go there on the weekend, have a drink or lunch (pretend we're vacationing there!) and walk the beach.
