Where do you stand on Wildfox?

So here's the thing.

I love the creative that the Wildfox brand produce. I think their advertising campaigns are inspirational and market leading.

I have an appreciation for their more expensive White Label and the mainstream couture collection.

I like some of the gimmicky tops and their "Fangs are Fantastic" jumper will always remain the one that got away.

Having said this though I have never bought anything from them. I refuse to pay $100 for cotton and I especially refuse to do so because if you walk into any Forever21 these days you can see Wildfox copies left, right and centre. The end result is that the original gets cheapened and tarnished by association.

And to be completely honest, a lot of their stuff I would probably never wear out of the house. It's fun and makes me smile but I wouldn't proudly strut through the streets with a big "I need coffee" emblazoned on my chest - however, true that might be!

But when I was checking out the Shopbop sale and saw a crosses tee, reduced from the near $100 mark to $30, I got it. I had spotted this before on another shopping site (ASOS) and quite liked it in both the cream and the black. It has a slightly distressed finished, oversized sleeves and the crosses run on both the front and bank.

Yesterday I wore it for the first time whilst working from home and a couple of things to note:

a) I would never wear this out with the grey jeans....to me this is crying out for leggings/black denim, black boots with a jacket/coat the same length as the tee.

b) The little design details can be seen throughout the garment - the aforementioned oversized sleeves swing and move nicely when you do.

c) It's quite nice to wear a baggy top sometimes.

d) It did cross my mind (gettit?) that wearing a top with crosses on it might not be ideal to wear in a Muslim country.

e) I think it's worth $30 and I am happy to own it. If I had paid full price I would have felt a little.....well, silly.

Overall then I am looking forward to giving this another whirl and styling it as laid out in (a).

I can now see why people love this brand and binge-haul the gimmicky tops. I am not sure I am going to be doing that but I will happily stalk the likes of shopbop.com for any reduced bargains :)

Oh and I may have bought an "inspired" heart jumper from Forever 21 for indoor weekend wear (*runs away looking sheepish*)
So where do you stand on Wildfox?

  1. Cannot believe that full price that is $100 - that is ridiculous! It's a perfectly nice tee but...pffffffft! xxx

  2. I have always loved wildfox but like you I can't justify the pricetag for cotton especially with the gimic-esque tops...gotta say I would only invest if I saw a product in the sale...this tshirt looks lovely on you

  4. @Jennifer - i know! it was $92!!! PS. Your latest post has taken me back to beautyzone. Seriously tempted to do a major haul :)

    @Katie - thanks!

@Bella Luna - exactly! It's a fun brand but feels sooo pricey!

  5. I find that about alot of brands... When the really cheap ones like primark and f21 are doing it, I really struggle to buy the expensive ones unless its justifiable like a shirt being proper silk, or a jumper decent wool... But then I also struggle to buy the cheap ones as I know I'll just be frustrated by the fit or the sewing or something else they cut corners on... Lose lose for me. Back to the charity shops it is!

  6. I think Wildfox are WILDLY overpriced (seeing a theme here). I personally am not a huge fan of their sweaters, though I do really like the styling of their ad campaigns. I think the shirt looks really great on you (and point D made me laugh).

  7. cute tee..i like the design. So envious that you could wear a tee over there right now.. Over here, it is so freakin' cold.. I want Summer time right now :)
Btw, Happy to be following you on FB.Love the TB flats you just recently posted..debating whether I should add it to my latest purchase at Shopbop ^^.

Happy New Year Laura. All the best for you and your family xx

  8. I'm the same when it comes to the price - I just couldn't justify paying that sort of money for a t-shirt! Having said that, because I haven't bought anything from them, maybe if I did I'd think wow, this is so worth the money... but then again.. ;)

  9. I really want the Sparkle Heart jumper and although it is supposed to be super soft, it's just so expensive! Imagine all the other stuff you could buy for £100. I would like to try one on though, just to understand how they justify their prices x

  10. The top is cool, but I would prefer a different pattern - not crosses ;)

  11. It's gorgeous but yeah, the full price is a tad expensive.

There are some things I think are worth paying extra for, to me thats things like jeans, coats and handbags which you wear more often. Like you said, places like Forever 21 do similar stuff to the big name brands at a price thats good to wear and throw out once the it goes out of season.

You grabbed a bargain though, sadly I never seem to see anything I like in the Sales :(

  12. I have to agree, I really like their top designs and they're exactly the kind of thing I'd wear, but not for the full price. $100 for that top is just ridiculous, but well done for getting it for just $30 which seems like a much more appropriate price.

  13. Massively too expensive to spend $100 on t-shirts and other items that like you say you can find for a fraction of the price anywhere else. Like the top but where do they get off trying to charge $100 for it? $30 is plently.

  14. i love wildfox, but i also wouldn't wear half of their stuff outside of the house. I have a black oversized basic tee that is the most comfortable thing i own and it looks so cute with skinny jeans and boots. i really like the one you got!

  15. My husband bought me a wildfox tee a few years ago. Its bright pink and really thin cotton. Not worth the money in my opinion, theres nothing special about it.
    Love your top, looks fab.

  19. How expensive!?! Really nice though, but would never pay that much for it, would rather attempt to make it lol! xx

    ReplyDelete
  20. I do love their pieces but agree that you can get something that looks just the same on the highstreet. I would get something if I literally was in love with it and it was part of a birthday present or if it was marked down at a great price!

    ReplyDelete
  21. it is a nice top but I think even 30 bucks is expensive (mind you I live in LA where the cost of living is outrageous and I'm on a fixed income). Only F21 copies for me;(

    ReplyDelete
  22. Like you I would only be prepared to snap these up when they are on sale as it is alot of money for what is essentially a printed t-shirt! I do think the little details and the quality matter so I would prefer one of these tops to something from Forever 21 :) It looks great on you! xo

    ReplyDelete
  23. Im glad you were able to pick that up at such a steal. I dont think i could justify spending $100 on a tshirt myself. but, it looks super cute and easy to wear.

  24. Wildfox is so expensive because it is made in the U.S. And their baggy jumpers are super soft; having said that {I do like the ones with out writing on them; I've only bought them on sale. Just can't pay full price for them.} But I don't mind buying them there instead of say F21 because they'll last longer and they are made here. Love the cross top on you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I just can't see paying $100 or more for a garment that can't be formal wear. Then again when you work hard for your money, a hundred dollar tshirt is absurd! Have a great weekend.

  26. I am one of those "crazies" that paid full price for my Wildfox sweatshirt. It's one of their baggy jumpers (I think it's called roadtrip something), it's dark gray and has "all you need is love" written on the chest. I do not regret it at all. It is easily the most comfortable thing in my wardrobe. I can wear it to school with some leggings, I have worn it to bed or while out grocery shopping, etc. While I wouldn't make a habit out of spending so much on them and getting every crazy thing they come up with, I would get them over Forever21 copies any day. The quality of the sweatshirt just doesn't compare. That might not be the same for the TShirts but their sweatshirts are definitely worth looking at :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I laughed out loud at the "wearing a cross in a Muslim country" point. haha. Definitely not work $100... $30 is slightly more reasonable for a teeshirt.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wiser words have never been said. God you're good Laura! I'm now tempted to have another look at the big cross gray tee in said shopbop sale. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've never had any Wildfox, it does seem a little expensive for lounge wear. On the other hand, I do like the idea of having a favourite sweatshirt that I can just laze around in, a sweatshirt that equals home and makes me smile. Something warm, cozy, longwearing and flaff-free. I haven't really got an item like that and maybe that is because I've overlooked brands like, Wildfox. Will have to google. :)Teeshirt looks fab on you, by the way!

cant wait to see it styled!

  32. First off, I don't own any Wildfox pieces as they're a little too expensive for me but have always thought they looked cheeky and cute. I don't think I'm a big fan of the tshirt, but from what I've see their baggy beach jumpers look super cute and cozy. Like you mentioned, I wouldn't want to wear one outside that says "My boyfriend's the pool boy" but they have a white one with a huge red sparkly/glittery heart that looks rather adorable. If they went about 50-70% off, I'd totally get it ;)

I have always been intrigued by the brand as well-all the talk about the wonderful softness!I finally deceided to join the band wagon so I started out and got the Laurel Baggy Beach Jumper in the color Sailor-nothing weird(I can actually leave the house with it on:) It is very soft...I had a coupon but still paid $106 for it!!

  35. Wildfox would fall into my 'luxe lounge wear' type clothes. ie. Something fashionable to wear at home when comfort is rather more important.

Since I wouldn't be able to show them off as much (or do I even want to?!), these types of clothing are way down on my covet list.

  36. Thank you! Thank you!
I love wildfox but I just can't imagine paying that price even though they are so cute. Having said that i've never boughten one yet myself, and all I hear are good things.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What i find tacky is that it's called wildfox "couture", for some baggy shirts. That is nowhere being couture! But, for casual everyday wear, I like to wear their jumpers even tho ridicusly overpriced, they are soft and some designs are edgy. I have a grey one, and I may get another one soon.

  38. Lol I love "d" :) I've never heard of this brand before here in the states!

  39. Whooaaa! $100 for a top/jumper?! That's insane. I would however treat myself once, but just once :D The top looks lovely on you!

  40. I find Wildfox to be insanely overpriced. I'm guilty of spending £70 on a top and then very stupidly ruined it during a painting explosion while trying to get pink paint out the tube and felt beyond idiotic for it but I don't see myself spending that much on a top again. Shoes, bags and jewellery I'll happily spend a lot on as I usually buy versatile items but my taste is forever changing and I couldn't bring myself to spend a lot on a top when I'll probably be bored of it after a few months.

  43. Pretty top but I could happily use the $100 elsewhere. Things like tshirts get worn through fairly easily so I'd rather invest the money on other 'staples'- bags, shoes, jeans, necklaces, makeup, nail polish, chocolate.. oh who am I kidding?!

Oh and F21- if I am not carrying lots of bags- its fun to visit :) xx

    ReplyDelete
  44. We dont have it in Aus but im starting to become obsessed with it and keep looking it up online - cant justify the price tag tho so i agree with you - as soon as a sale emerges it may be purchased! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  45. Laura, I couldn't have agreed with you more. I live in LA, so I'm always coming across Wildfox on shopping trips. I find myself touching them (very soft) and then looking at the price as if it's gonna magically change from $100 to $25 bucks. I think it's also an age thing. I'm in my 30s and can't picture myself walking out of the house with the smiley face with fang weater or a giant red heart on my chest. They are super cute to look at though :) the cross one you have in the pic is understated, not over the top...I'd weat that too xo

  51. I agree with you, I like the idea of Wildfox but in reality I won't be paying their prices for a tee that has been readily copied. I do however really like this tee, and I am a fan of oversized so for 30 I think this is just right!

  52. I bought this same exact tshirt in the shopbop sale as well! My thoughts on wildfox had been the exact same as yours - had always "hearted" the jumpers in my shopbop "loves" but had never actually taken the plunge! And same as you, wouldn't wear the jumpers out of the house. This T however swayed me the opposite direction as you - I thought the quality was meh and the cut was HUGE (even in XS!) - it was like a cheap generic mens gym shirt :-/ I liked the crosses too in a funky way but the cut ruined it for me. I'm all about drapey casual basics (like alex wang)and while I liked the pattern on this the cut was overwhelming! phew :) rant over!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Agreed! Their prices are ridiculous. I found a slew of their pieces on sale at saks off fifth over Christmas and at $45 their jumpers seemed much more reasonable. If you can find them on sale I suggest you pick one (or a few;) ) up! I find myself throwing them on ALL the time! xxx

  55. i've heard of wildfox before but it was only the other week that i actually went on their website and had a proper look through their stuff. at first, i was like 'wow, i really love some of their stuff' and then i saw the price tags. i was completely shocked and like you, probably couldn't justify spending that much. however, i really do like some of the items and definitely wouldn't object to receiving some as gifts in the future...
