Hello! How are you all?
I spent the last few working days in Doha and whilst I went there with every intention to update you all, it just didn't happen. Damn networking events, meetings and project work got in the way.
It was my first time in Doha and I definitely noticed the fact that it is far more conservative than Dubai (not hard as Dubai is extremely liberal). You have to be a lot more mindful of what you are wearing (more is definitely better ladies!) but the people are friendly and the food was great. If you ever find yourself in Doha (hey, you never know!) I highly recommend Souq al Waqif - great outdoor eating/shisha/coffee and a good mix of expats, tourists and Qataris.
Sadly no outfit of the day photos were snapped. I just couldn't bring myself to whip out the camera and force it into the hands of my manager before barking photographic direction orders....I mean, could you?
I do however, have an old OOTD from Tuesday that I thought I would share. Why not, eh?
The OOTD
The Topshop peach blazer lives on!
I absolutely love pairing this with black basics. Dare I mention the pop-of-colour theory? Anyway, I wore a variation on this theme a couple of times this week and yes, the blazer looks a lot better unbuttoned - more languid and casual and less boxy and structured.
Oh yeah, and this is my face from that day :)
Scarf: Accessorize
Blazer: Topshop - Link!
Vest: Topshop
Trousers: H&M
Shoes: Zara
Sunglasses: Gucci
Bag: Miu Miu
Of course I did make a couple of little purchases during my trip and here they are....
Oh yes, I have replenished the nudes: MAC Creme D'Nude and MAC Shy Girl.
As you can see, I have already smeared them on :)
The purchase of Creme D'Nude is a bit of an odd one because I silently vow, with every tube, that I will never buy it again. The Mush Stage irritates me no end but then I see it on the lipstick stand and get lured in by it's pretty.
So here we go for a fifth time...
Shy Girl is a bit more stable in consistency and honestly, the more wearable. If you don't own it (and you probably do) then I would highly recommend. It's definitely light but it lightly defines and lifts - as opposed to "corpsing" out your lips. Think of it as Hue's peach cousin. In other words, absolutely essential to your make up collection.
I can't lie. Seeing pictures of lipsticks makes me very happy inside :)

I love that OOTD combination of the peach and the blue, so pretty and so ready for spring. Not that I suppose it's heading to spring there though mind you!
ReplyDeleteI need to get MAC Shy girl, been meaning to for ages!
Amelia @ UGLY DUCKLING xxx
www.DucklingtoSwan.com
thanks Amelia! and yes, it's an absolute must :)
DeleteHave you thought about putting Creme D'Nude in a pot and applying with a brush? Though I must say, I have had a few of those and they've always been fine! My Shy Girl, however, is slightly deformed...
ReplyDeleteI really should do that you know...you are right. i am not a brush type lipstick person but it would be so worth it!
DeleteYou are just cuter every time I see you...I am loving the scarf!
ReplyDeleteAneela
thedesiknot.blogspot.com
haha thanks Aneela x
DeleteI feel like you are just so chic, you could were a bin liner and pull it off!
ReplyDeleteWould love if you took a peek at my channel, I loved it when you made vids....but this blog is ace! xxxx
http://www.youtube.com/user/thesparkleicious?feature=mhee
I have already subscribed of course! :)
DeleteThe mint green scarf looks amazing on the blazer! I actually haven't tried Shy Girl (shame on me!) but I think I might have to try that soon. And I cracked and bought a couple of Revlon lip butters.. Am loving them so far though :)
ReplyDeleteyes i am lemming the lip butters...just because of all the hype surrounding them :)
DeleteI like how this outfit looks so breezy and effortless. =) And can you believe I've never owned a MAC lipstick (despite having my eye on a few). The last lip product I bought was A Maybelline Baby Lips. Bought into the hype, but it didn't disappoint -- for the most part!
ReplyDeleteah the Baby Lips! Yes I must try those! They sound fantastic :)
DeleteGirrrrrl, I am loving the peach blazer! I am considering hunting this baby down. By the way, I saw this gorgeous blazer on the Topshop website which has sold out http://us.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=33060&storeId=13052&productId=4318459&langId=-1 it totes reminds me of you!
ReplyDeletex
thanks Halima! LOVE that blazer...of course :) I love all blazers :)
DeleteMy brother recently moved to Doha for work and I'm planning on going out there this summer! Will def check out the places you recommended! Love the face makeup and Shy Girl is one of my fav MAC nude lipsticks!
ReplyDeletei also drove past a mall called The Gate...looked really nice and high end so check that out too :) Villagio is also meant to be great!
DeleteSuch a nice outfit of the day, very simple but effective :)
ReplyDeleteI was dying to get hold of Shy Girl for ages and then when I finally got it, it looked awful on me I was gutted! Sure it looks fab on you though xx
ah that's so disappointing. i felt the same way with Boy by Chanel. I was convinced I was going to like it...the first couple of times I thought it looked good and then I realised that it really didn't :)
Deletegorgeous OOTD. this gives me a reason to give boxy blazers a second look - and trying them on without buttoning them up.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn - it's the way forward! It looks a lot softer and more relaxed.
DeleteI love a nice nude, although because I have pale skin I have to pick carefully. Blankety is more my shade at the moment. Love the peach blazer- cant wait to wear my peach cardi/wrap... hurry up spring!! I am waiting for the shop MAC collection so I can purchase a Tendertone or two. Just purchase Soap and Glory Hand Food for the first time so testing it out :) xx (P.s. glad you survived the conference :)
ReplyDeleteI adore Blankety - a great colour. I heard about the Tendertones...they are like bliss on the lips! :)
DeleteI agree with Diane the blazer and scarf combination is adorable x
ReplyDeletewww.hazelsblog.co.uk
thank you Hazel :) x
DeleteI just bought Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Evasion and I love it. Peachy, nudey, pinky gorgeousness!
ReplyDeleteooh have never tried that :) sounds perfect!
DeleteAh when do you not look stunning! creme cup and shy girl are next on my list, both seem like gorgeous everyday colours! My newest lipstick was a bright pink one from Topshop, which I got for free with my order! xx
ReplyDeleteeven better? is it any good?! :)
DeleteAgreed on the mush stage of creme de nude. I find that even Shy Girl verges on mush after the 1/2 tube mark. I have had to repurchase it about 10x and I feel like ive wasted 5 tubes worth due to the mush stage (which i cant handle as it gets everywhere!)
ReplyDeletesame...as soon as i get mush it's dead to me. and then i buy a new bloody tube :)
DeleteUrban Decay Naked 2...totally unneccesary (how the hell is that damned word spelt!) as i already own the first one!!
ReplyDeletex
I absolutely love the scarf! It gives a nice pop of colour with the outfit! I have never tried creme d'nude simply because i have too many nude lipsticks to use up before I allow myself to buy it :D Great post xo
ReplyDeleteah good plan! I have also been fairly good and used up lots in the last few months :) still having said that it was a highly unnecessary purchase :)
Deletelove the ootd!! river island currently has a gorrrrgeous not-too-feminine blazer in the exact colour of that scarf (actually maybe a bit lighter than the scarf lol)
ReplyDeletei see these lipsticks everrryyywhere but am just dubious about them suiting my skin tone!
loveee the eyemakeup in the fotd!! xx
love you for showing me that blazer. what a beauty! :)
DeleteHi Laura! Love the peach-black combination!
ReplyDeleteCreme D'Nude is a classic... That I haven't tried yet! I really liked Shy Girl, I should get it.
My last purchase was MAC Syrup, and I'm loving it! Lovely for everyday look.
I can't wait for your post about the Naked2 by the way! LOL
Greetings from Venezuela!
Kary.
:)
hi kary - i can't yet be positive about Naked 2. i just don't think its for me. is a negative review still something you would look forward to? :)
DeleteHi laura!
DeleteI would love to read the review, even if it's a negative one! I'm not sure about this palette... And I think most people don't get it either. I'd like to know the reason :)
http://www.riverisland.com/Online/women/coats--jackets/blazers/light-turquoise-longline-blazer-615512
ReplyDelete- the blazer lol!
Oh I'm a Mac faux girl, er woman, er OAP.
ReplyDeletehaha i have never tried Faux (I don't think!) I really must!
Deletedon't really need another lipstick but i never owned shy girl, feel i should!
ReplyDeletelove the blazer, still freezing here but can't wait to wear pastels xx
i love the new season collections with all these pretty ice cream colours....it's going to be a bright and pretty summer for us i think :)
DeleteYou are so chic xxx
ReplyDeletehaha not at all but thanks Hannah :)
DeleteGlad to see that you've enjoyed your little time in Doha! I love souq waqif! Let us know next time you're here, we can arrange a meet up :)
ReplyDeleteI loved it! I went there twice :) Might be back very soon :) x
DeleteI love your outfit! Pastels look surprisingly beautiful paired with black, so put together, I love it! I also like the look of those shoes, they pull the whole outfit together and make you look very sophisticated (in the best way possible).
ReplyDeleteI think pictures of make-up would make any make-up fanatic do a little dance , I mean...they sure make me happy!
Anca
Whenever i see lipstick pictures on tumblr i instantly do a little "ahhh". :) haha
DeleteI don't have Shy Girl and now I can feel myself wanting to reach for my bank card. I'm now regretting my Leonardo DiCaprio movie spendathon now since I'm now dying for a new lipstick.
ReplyDeletehttp://thehumanwreckagemusic.blogspot.com/
no way...never regret Leonardo Dicaprio. A lipstick pales in comparison. :)
DeleteI love the peach blazer and the turquoise scarf, such a great spring color palette :) I have been loving bright lipsticks lately! I will have to try Shy Girl as I LOVE Hue. I also HATE when creme de nude gets to the mushy stage (and it does EVERY TIME without fail) but continue to purchase as well. Hmph :)

Glad I am not the only one that has this very problem!
DeleteI've been to the airport in Doha and will be passing through again on the way to my honeymoon but I've never made it past the airport. It love shy girl even though I'm super pale. X
ReplyDeleteooh are you going to the Maldives? Have a lovely time!
DeleteThat is my ultimate honeymoon destination!!! xxx
DeleteLoving the 'Pop of colour' theory, wish I could put together words like you do. Really like the way you've styled the Peach Blazer. Have recently purchased Creme Cup for the first time, can see why it is so popular. It is lovely. Repurchases of Hue and Creme de la Femme (two of my top three MAC lippies alongside Snob) is next up!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit, you're looking amazing! ♥
ReplyDeleteI've got Shy Girl and love it too!
ReplyDeleteEmma x
I love your outfit !! Very nice !
ReplyDeleteI really love the colored blazer over the black...looks so good!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful eye makeup! What colors are you wearing?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYour job sounds soo interesting and fun!
**A humble request:
*Do you mind sharing with us what you do please?
I was wondering if either of the lipsticks would make a medium skin tone (NC37-NC40) look washed out? Thats the problem i have with nude lipsticks:o(
Your recommendation of Mac's Jazzed from when you used to do youtube videos is something I like the look of.. If thats any help in replying back to my question? :o)
***PLEASE REPLY***
X
I love the color of that scarf! It's an amazing pop of color. :)
ReplyDeleteI always wish nudes suited me when i see you talk about them! Looks lovely! Hope you had a good time in Doha, i've always wanted to go there and to Abu Dhabi :)
ReplyDeletewww.canotier.blogspot.com
Creme d'Nude was a concealer-like horror on me, but I do think I should give Shy Girl a try! I'm currently sporting Fanfare and liking it a lot, though.
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with Creme D'Nude as well... adore the color but I find that sometimes the consistency leaves it slightly globby (for lack of a more technical term) on my lips.
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the arrival of warm weather to break out Flamingo. It's gonna be exciting. Also picked up Rimmel Kate Moss in 08. The texture and feel are nice but perhaps played it way too safe on the color. I do that a lot and then regret it almost every time. Sigh. :p
ReplyDeleteVery pretty outfit ! And you hair looks great :) xx
ReplyDeleteclayandbeauty.blogspot.com
I LOVEEEEE this outfit! Probably one of my favorites of yours ever! I haven't bought any lipsticks in a loooong time because I'm trying to be on a no buy (Still succeeding and resisting the lemmings!!). Last lipstick I bought was Chanel RA Dragon in November. LOL Some of my favorite MAC nude-ish/naturalish shades are Hug Me, Jubilee, and See Sheer
ReplyDeleteI've just purchased mac quick sizzle. You have to get your hands on it Laura!
ReplyDeleteYou are probably the most sensible dresser there is in this blogosphere. Your outfits are very well put together. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://mrsvanity11.blogspot.com/
I wanted shy girl for ages but didn't like it when swatched. I took the plunge and ordered Mac's 'a perfect day' online without seeing it first and I'm so glad I did - its the perfect "non-dead nude" - and it's an amplified !!! LOVE
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit! The peach blazer looks fantastic with the all black and scarf! You're always so chic :) I just bought Innocence, Beware! lipstick form the new MAC collection. I've been seriously obsessed with lipsticks lately! haha

When i go to my country we have transit in doha for few hours would love to go outing there!

I've just purchased Topshop lippy in Mischief, a cheeky little red number and Clinique Watermelon an east to wear pink, would definately recommend the latter.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask what foundation are you using in the photo above and have you ever used Bare Minerals foundations?

Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteThank you for another great post! I look forward to reading them everyday!
shy girl is definitely my go to everyday color!! can't be without it!
cora
Love the peach blazer :). I'm a Shy Girl addict but I'm a bit afraid of Creme d"Nude. I just back to mac'd for Girl About Town which I can't wait to wear
ReplyDeleteShy girl was my first MAC lipstick and I'm still madly in love with it. It's perfect.
ReplyDeleteYou look really gorgeous. Such a smart but pretty outfit.
xx
somehow my Creme D'Nude has survived its first year (kinda gross) with no mushing! But then again I don't live in a hot climate nor do I tote it around a lot - I am so bad about reapplying lipstick throughout the day... lazy.com
ReplyDeleteyou look wonderful as always :)
You both kind of look alike. Well, you're both very pretty ladies. :)
DeleteShy Girl sounds perfect for me, I really don't suit Hue, I need peachy! Looking gorge as always! I'm buying myself some of those Gucci sunglasses soon! I love them so much! I love your minty scarf with the blazer too! x
ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty! I love the pink blazer on you and the mac lippes I love, I keep wanting to get shy girl! xxx
ReplyDeletewww.misslv.com
I absolutely love the peach blazer and think it's perfect with the all black and touch of blue! Dying to purchase so lovely new lipsticks at the minute, student income (aka lack of) is taking its toll
ReplyDeletewishfulsinfulyou.blogspot.com
I have recently purchased MAC's 'Snob'. Do you own it? I think it does 'corpse' out the lips a little.. I find some days it looks really nice and some it looks terrible. hmmm x
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just going to reiterate what the hundreds of other people have said (great minds and all that!) But i love the peach blazer and the scarf, great combination with the black basics. Love your blog as ever and cant wait for the next post.
ReplyDeleteplease check out my blog for all things beauty, health and haul-like related.

Your sunglasses are TO.DIE.FOR. :)
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased a luster, Dish it Up and have ordered Plumful. Looking at my lipsticks makes me smile :D
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what you said about creme d'nude mushing. It has been driving me nuts for months so a couple days ago I snapped and melted it down and put it in one of those little sample pots. Now I'm a happy camper again =)
ReplyDeleteI've got to get shy girl but every time I go to Mac, I get sucked in by the pinky nudes! I recently purchased Mac's Hug Me and its a great no fuss, everyday color!
ReplyDeleteI purchased new blush from MAC Naturally collection, the Early Morning blush
ReplyDeleteHave you been to Sharjah? I'm going there for work and stopping over in Dubai too in mid March. I've been to Dubai before so looking forward to seeing how it's developed since then.
Just wanted to share that I also bought the Early Morning Blush, such a great pigmented colour! :) x
DeleteLove how you paired the peach with black. Also, I cannot get over how pretty you are. Just sayin'. ;)
ReplyDeletekeepcalmandcarrylipstick.blogspot.com
You're so pretty doll! I love that look on you. So flawless and natural. x
ReplyDeleteI am so tempted by Shy Girl!xx
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I've never owned a single Mac lipstick?! Every time I'm at a Mac counter, I pick up Lovelorn, admire it, swatch it, then just put it back.... so annoying! haha
ReplyDeleteWow! Your goal for 2012 is to get one :) PS> Never swatched Lovelorn!
DeleteI love your blazer, and paired with the scarf it looks even more lovely:) xx
ReplyDeleteLove Shy Girl! Just purchased Clarins Rouge Prodige in "nude" today and I adore it. It's everything I wanted YSL to be but it's mosturizing and doesn't sit on top of my lips like YSL lippes do. Also picked up MAC's "Woo Me" from the new Shop collection.
ReplyDeleteI really like your blazer and trouser.
ReplyDeletei just bought Chanel's Coco Shine in Candeur, suuuper pale pink. in love! x
ReplyDeleteI posted yesterday about my belated xmas sale on YSL lipsticks. They were about £14 so i got a few!!!- funny enough they are all very similar in shade. I also got two glosses but I wasn't impressed. Too sticky but the sparkle is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI tried GOSH Darling which is supposed to be similar to Creme de'Nude and I looked like a ghost and my teeth looked soo yellow! Not sure I will ever get the MAC version.
Love your OOTD combo! X
Great outfit, Laura.
ReplyDeleteYou wrote in one of your comments, that you used up some lipsticks. I would love to read which one you used up, and if you would repurchase them or why not.
I own Creme d'nude and Shy Girl, but I sadly don't fall in love with them. The peach undertone doesn't go with my skintone (I am NW20/ N4). Creme d'nude is too pale and looks totally washed out. I also feel that its to light to cover my stonger natural lipcolor. It just doesn't work for me.
I recently bought MAC Modesty as an every day color. I love it, because the color is a little browner compaired to my natural lipcolor, so I don't look washed out. The same effect has the lipstick
English Rose No. 23 (if I remeber correct) by Burberry on my lips.
I absolutely adore Creme d'nude - it is my all time favourite lipstick because somehow I cannot stay away from the nude family! Perhaps I like the corpse look, who knows?!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried shy girl yet but I may have to go and pick it up soon. Hue is definitely one on my wish list... How many nude lipsticks/glosses can one girl own? It is potentially never-ending.
Face of the day is gorgeous... You are too pretty!! :)
everrachael.blogspot.com
Hehe, you're absolutely right, lipstick pics (or photos of any other makeup items for that matter) do have the ability to cheer us up! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd Creme D' Nude and Shy Girl are staples!
My latest lipstick purchase was YSL rouge pur couture in #10, Beige Tribute, and I'm already contemplating "A Perfect Day" by MAC! :)
x
beauty!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://perfectstyleandshopping.blogspot.com/
Love the outfit! I want those trousers!
ReplyDeleteNude lipsticks FTW.... Creme d'Nude and I have a love hate relationship too, but I always go back to it lol. But I've been steering to bolder colour lately.
Have you checked out those new lipsticks/lipglosses from the new Shop MAC Cook MAC collection? I think you will like them =). I recommend the Kissable Lipcolours.
x Rica
Love that outfit. I love it that you paired it with that scarf. Lovely! Who takes you outfit photo's?
ReplyDeleteStop being so bloomin' gorgeous Laura! Haha :)
ReplyDeleteYou have such a cute style, i love that outfit! xx
