Checking in with an OOTD and lipstick chatter...

Hello! How are you all?

I spent the last few working days in Doha and whilst I went there with every intention to update you all, it just didn't happen. Damn networking events, meetings and project work got in the way.

It was my first time in Doha and I definitely noticed the fact that it is far more conservative than Dubai (not hard as Dubai is extremely liberal). You have to be a lot more mindful of what you are wearing (more is definitely better ladies!) but the people are friendly and the food was great. If you ever find yourself in Doha (hey, you never know!) I highly recommend Souq al Waqif - great outdoor eating/shisha/coffee and a good mix of expats, tourists and Qataris.

Sadly no outfit of the day photos were snapped. I just couldn't bring myself to whip out the camera and force it into the hands of my manager before barking photographic direction orders....I mean, could you?

I do however, have an old OOTD from Tuesday that I thought I would share. Why not, eh?

The OOTD

The Topshop peach blazer lives on!

I absolutely love pairing this with black basics. Dare I mention the pop-of-colour theory? Anyway,  I wore a variation on this theme a couple of times this week and yes, the blazer looks a lot better unbuttoned - more languid and casual and less boxy and structured.


 Oh yeah, and this is my face from that day :)

Of course I did make a couple of little purchases during my trip and here they are....

Oh yes, I have replenished the nudes: MAC Creme D'Nude and MAC Shy Girl.

As you can see, I have already smeared them on :)

The purchase of Creme D'Nude is a bit of an odd one because I silently vow, with every tube, that I will never buy it again. The Mush Stage irritates me no end but then I see it on the lipstick stand and get lured in by it's pretty.

So here we go for a fifth time...

Shy Girl is a bit more stable in consistency and honestly, the more wearable. If you don't own it (and you probably do) then I would highly recommend. It's definitely light but it lightly defines and lifts - as opposed to "corpsing" out your lips. Think of it as Hue's peach cousin. In other words, absolutely essential to your make up collection.

I can't lie. Seeing pictures of lipsticks makes me very happy inside :)

  2. Have you thought about putting Creme D'Nude in a pot and applying with a brush? Though I must say, I have had a few of those and they've always been fine! My Shy Girl, however, is slightly deformed...

  5. The mint green scarf looks amazing on the blazer! I actually haven't tried Shy Girl (shame on me!) but I think I might have to try that soon. And I cracked and bought a couple of Revlon lip butters.. Am loving them so far though :)

  6. I like how this outfit looks so breezy and effortless. =) And can you believe I've never owned a MAC lipstick (despite having my eye on a few). The last lip product I bought was A Maybelline Baby Lips. Bought into the hype, but it didn't disappoint -- for the most part!

  11. I love a nice nude, although because I have pale skin I have to pick carefully. Blankety is more my shade at the moment. Love the peach blazer- cant wait to wear my peach cardi/wrap... hurry up spring!! I am waiting for the shop MAC collection so I can purchase a Tendertone or two. Just purchase Soap and Glory Hand Food for the first time so testing it out :) xx (P.s. glad you survived the conference :)

  15. Agreed on the mush stage of creme de nude. I find that even Shy Girl verges on mush after the 1/2 tube mark. I have had to repurchase it about 10x and I feel like ive wasted 5 tubes worth due to the mush stage (which i cant handle as it gets everywhere!)

  17. I absolutely love the scarf! It gives a nice pop of colour with the outfit! I have never tried creme d'nude simply because i have too many nude lipsticks to use up before I allow myself to buy it :D Great post xo

  18. love the ootd!! river island currently has a gorrrrgeous not-too-feminine blazer in the exact colour of that scarf (actually maybe a bit lighter than the scarf lol)
    i see these lipsticks everrryyywhere but am just dubious about them suiting my skin tone!

  25. I love your outfit! Pastels look surprisingly beautiful paired with black, so put together, I love it! I also like the look of those shoes, they pull the whole outfit together and make you look very sophisticated (in the best way possible).

    I think pictures of make-up would make any make-up fanatic do a little dance , I mean...they sure make me happy!

  27. I love the peach blazer and the turquoise scarf, such a great spring color palette :) I have been loving bright lipsticks lately! I will have to try Shy Girl as I LOVE Hue. I also HATE when creme de nude gets to the mushy stage (and it does EVERY TIME without fail) but continue to purchase as well. Hmph :)

  29. Loving the 'Pop of colour' theory, wish I could put together words like you do. Really like the way you've styled the Peach Blazer. Have recently purchased Creme Cup for the first time, can see why it is so popular. It is lovely.     I was wondering if either of the lipsticks would make a medium skin tone (NC37-NC40) look washed out? Thats the problem i have with nude lipsticks:o(

  39. I have a love/hate relationship with Creme D'Nude as well... adore the color but I find that sometimes the consistency leaves it slightly globby (for lack of a more technical term) on my lips.

  40. I'm waiting for the arrival of warm weather to break out Flamingo. It's gonna be exciting. Also picked up Rimmel Kate Moss in 08. The texture and feel are nice but perhaps played it way too safe on the color. I do that a lot and then regret it almost every time. Sigh. :p

  68. Love Shy Girl! Just purchased Clarins Rouge Prodige in "nude" today and I adore it. It's everything I wanted YSL to be but it's mosturizing and doesn't sit on top of my lips like YSL lippes do. Also picked up MAC's "Woo Me" from the new Shop collection.

  71. I posted yesterday about my belated xmas sale on YSL lipsticks. They were about £14 so i got a few!!!- funny enough they are all very similar in shade. I also got two glosses but I wasn't impressed. Too sticky but the sparkle is gorgeous.
    I tried GOSH Darling which is supposed to be similar to Creme de'Nude and I looked like a ghost and my teeth looked soo yellow! Not sure I will ever get the MAC version.

    You wrote in one of your comments, that you used up some lipsticks. I would love to read which one you used up, and if you would repurchase them or why not.

    I own Creme d'nude and Shy Girl, but I sadly don't fall in love with them. The peach undertone doesn't go with my skintone (I am NW20/ N4). Creme d'nude is too pale and looks totally washed out. I also feel that its to light to cover my stonger natural lipcolor. It just doesn't work for me.

    I recently bought MAC Modesty as an every day color. I love it, because the color is a little browner compaired to my natural lipcolor, so I don't look washed out. The same effect has the lipstick
    English Rose No. 23 (if I remeber correct) by Burberry on my lips.

  73. I absolutely adore Creme d'nude - it is my all time favourite lipstick because somehow I cannot stay away from the nude family! Perhaps I like the corpse look, who knows?!

    I haven't tried shy girl yet but I may have to go and pick it up soon. Hue is definitely one on my wish list... How many nude lipsticks/glosses can one girl own? It is potentially never-ending.

    Nude lipsticks FTW.... Creme d'Nude and I have a love hate relationship too, but I always go back to it lol. But I've been steering to bolder colour lately.

    Have you checked out those new lipsticks/lipglosses from the new Shop MAC Cook MAC collection? I think you will like them =). I recommend the Kissable Lipcolours.
