Today I dragged myself to see the cricket in Dubai Sports City. I say dragged as I have been spent the last two days flaked out in bed with muscle ache/headache/sore throat/massive chin spot.
It was good to get out though, spend a few hours sitting outside and it also proved a good opportunity to give my new Topshop blazer an airing.
And boy did it need an airing.
I can only describe the scent as "polyester clusterf*ck". It stank in only the same way that sections of H&M do....does anyone know what I mean?
Eau de polyester aside, this is my top tip for Spring. Yes a pastel for Spring. Shocker! Hold the front page!
Still, it's the most gorgeous and flattering peach that I have seen for a long time and I like the fact that it comes in a more masculine double breasted style to balance out the potential "cutesy" factor. I wore it buttoned up but it hangs even better when undone).
I was a little nervous about the price initially when I ordered it online but it made even a sick, spotty girl feel very fresh so for that reason I think it's worth it.

And one of the cricket....the perfect snooze-inducing spectator sport :)
Blazer: Topshop - Link!
Tee: Splendid
Jeans: Earnest Sewn
Sunglasses: Gucci
Bag: MiuMiu
Shoes: Ash
On the pastel blazer tiff, Zara also has some great, and cheaper, offerings. Last week I saw some tempting mint and pink versions that are deliciously soft in both fabric and colour. Link!
It seems like we are going to look like ice creams next season :)
Coming up....
I should probably save this for the next post (and I will go into more detail then) but you know what....I am not sure I "get" the Naked 2 palette.
Its a thumbs up for the packaging, the synthetic brush and the overall impression of the shades but yet, every time I apply it, I can only conclude that my eye makeup looks like total crap.
I just don't think it works for me. It's too cool/durgy. And I am honestly shocked. Neutrals and me go together like peanut and butter and yet I am now giving this palette evils out of frustration. Why do I not like it? Anyone else had this problem?
Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend!

I LOVE this look! Peach and blush are my favorite color tops at the moment. And jeans are definitely my thing. <3 Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura - its perfect weekend wear :)
DeleteI adore this color, and the mint and baby pink colors sound right up my alley in terms of spring. I only wish we had a Topshop where I live! I love the buttons, it makes it look adorable but cannot wait to see you style it unbuttoned as well :)
ReplyDeleteAs for the Naked 2 palette, I am shocked! I LOVE mine, but I guess the two re very different. Maybe the warmer neutrals just look better on your skin tone vs the cooler? Or perhaps you haven't found the right combo yet? I'm curious to see your post!
Happy Saturday, hope you feel better!

haha i know! it's pretty shocking. I fell in love with so many of the colours on visual first impression but as soon as I apply them it just all falls flat and I end up resenting my eye make up all day :)
Deletethere's no easy way for me to get the naked/naked2 palette, and i guess i don't wear eyeshadow frequent enough to justify the splurge... hm... too bad the naked 2 seems too cool for your complexion - i do agree that warmer neutrals look good on you, esp your eyes!
ReplyDeletethe blazer's cutting is too stylish for me, but casual/chic on you! :P
cheers,
jacq

to look at it doesn't look like its going to be a problem but just something about it doesnt seem to work - yet! Aah so frustrating. I feel like I am being teased by bloody eyeshadow!
Deletemaybe you can try to pair it with some warmer cream shadow as base, or that 'pop of colourful eyeliner' trick to make neutrals more fun? maybe some eyeshadows are made tricker for some skin tones anyway~ :) don't get frustrated~~~~ it's just a palette~~~
DeleteDefinitely adding a pastel blazer to my shopping list this spring/summer, i missed the boat last year and regretted it when all the amazing ones had gone!
ReplyDeleteThe colour of this one is gorgeous :)
http://cosmeticsshoppingandintoxication.blogspot.com/
Highly recommend the Zara ones!
DeleteI love the blazer, I think white or cream blazers look so nice in the summer time, really clean and fresh :) I've been wanting one for ages! xx
ReplyDeletei honestly love my white and light coloured blazers. and you are right - nothing says summer like one of these bad boys :)
DeleteI literally just bought a very very similar blazer! So happy I did because as soon as I saw this post I loved yours!
ReplyDeleteZara does have loads of amazing blazers in now, think I'm ordering a tuxedo one, all thanks to your inspiration!! :)
Amelia @ UGLY DUCKLING x
I WAS AN UGLY DUCKLING BLOG!
yay :) I love these colours! so lifting and fresh :)
DeleteThe blazer looks fab on you Laura, but don't think the cut of it would flatter me at all :( Love wearing that shade of peach on my nails at the moment though, roll on spring time! xx
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit hun! gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteand i struggle with my Naked 2 as well.. i don't think the pigmentation comes up great on me.. i reaaaally have to dip my brush over and over to get any sort of show up! xxx
Yesss!! I want Tease to work on me so much as it's one of the most striking colours to me but it's really hard work! :)
DeleteI never bothered getting the Urban Decay palette 2. I love the packaging but I just couldn't bring myself to pay £35 for it when it was pretty close to the original which I still love a little too much. Although the original Naked palette has a few shades that look absolutely horrendous on me too, usually most shadows will look decent since my skin is incredibly pale but some just look really murky and gross.
ReplyDeletehaha i know. the grey shades in the original look HORRENDOUS on my eyes....like i need to sleep 100 years. :)
DeleteI'm sorry to say this, but this makes me feel so relieved. Gunmetal looks green on me and it is not the good kind of green, so I have been feeling like a total outsider ever since buying the original Naked palette, as everyone was saying how they loved all the colours. I was starting to suspect there was something wrong with me :)
DeleteI just bought the Naked2 yesterday on a whim and am contemplating whether I really need it and how the cooler colors will look on me. And now you're saying you don't like it...hmm, maybe I don't really need it?
ReplyDeletewell...i don't think we need any of them :) haha but i cant seem to make it work yet. see how you go!
DeleteSuch a pretty peach colour. Now lusting after the pale pink Zara blazer you linked to!
ReplyDeleteGet it Amy! I love that one and keep thinking about it :)

You can't beat a good blazer, fact. I just got home there from buying my Naked2 palette and posted on Facebook how happy I was to have it. I'm gutted now to see that it might not live up to my expectations...should have known, sequels are never as good as the original :-)
ReplyDeletewell not necessarily! don't be gutted! :) I think this is very much a personal preference/skintone kind of deal so it may end up being the best thing you have ever bought :)
Deletegreat blazer

thanks girl! x
DeleteI think this is the first time I haven't liked something that you've worn! I'm just not feeling that blazer, I don't think it fits you quite the right way... you're beautiful though nonetheless. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I know what you mean about the shadows "just not working", the same thing happened to me when I went to Inglot and made my first Freedom System palette. Lots of brights and some neutrals, nothing that I wouldn't ever wear, nothing seemingly different about the shades, but for some reason every time I use them it just looks horrible! No matter what I do!
Oh well, I guess we can't win 'em all. :)
same with the Inglot shadows for me! Got a 5 freedom palette a while ago and whilst I was all excited it just never worked on me :)
DeleteCute colour! I love blazers they are such an easy thing to throw on and instantly make you look smarter...
ReplyDeleteI popped into that glasses shop in the King's Road today - a tad too trendy for me but some nice glasses in there! x
everrachael.blogspot.com
yes, it's quite trendy but they are all super nice! love having a browse in there :)
DeleteYour pastel blazer looks great especially with your colouring.
ReplyDeleteRe the Naked 2 pallette, it's really weird I normally rush straight on and buy the latest rave beauty product but ive held off this one for some reason. Although I've not held one in my hand I get the impression most of the shadows are sparkly and they generally don't do anything for me unless I'm doing a real obvious party look.
Am I right in thinking most of them have a shimmer to them?
Esther xx
http://girlinapanama.com/
there are a couple of matte shades but pigmentation wise they are not very impressive. the rest are more of a shimmer or pearl finish :) Thanks Esther!
DeleteYou always look so effortlessly stylish, reading your blog has renewed my love for 'the blazer' I really like the neutral pinky peach shade.
ReplyDeleteShame you're not getting on with the naked 2 palette, I haven't purchase this as of yet the price tag put me off but being a neutral obsessive the colours really appeal to me - will you be doing a more in depth review of the Naked 2 palette I would be interested to hear your thoughts???
xx
thanks Sophie! I think i am going to try out a couple of combo suggestions I have received on twitter and then do a review....I WILL MAKE THIS WORK :)
DeleteHope the persistence pays off, you never know you may find the new 'naked/buck' combo! Look forward to reading and seeing what you come up with! :)
DeleteLove this blazer! The colour is amazing.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.allthingsbeautymake-upandshopping.blogspot.com
I love that blazer, I seriously have such a soft spot for blazers, and now I really wish I had one in this colour, that would make it my 6th blazer.
ReplyDeletehttp://picture-uslh.blogspot.com/
I love the masculine shape of this blazer, I think it works so well with the girly colour! I think a pastel blazer will be on my spring wishlist, I can see it working with so many things and it's such a nice change from black and navy blazers
ReplyDeletewishfulsinfulyou.blogspot.com
i'm really loving pink at the moment...and that is such a pretty shade. thumbs up for pastels :)
ReplyDeletehttp://whattheshoe.blogspot.com/
m god i know what you mean! i got a shirt from HM spelled like straight up burning plastic for months... and probably still does.. i don't know i don't wear it anymore partial to that... but other than that the concept and design of the blazer is gorgeous i love how its double breasted AND pink
ReplyDeleteI had that problem with the Naked original palette. But after experimenting (trying every brush & primer known to man), I found that patting your brush of choice lightly onto a make-up wipe transformed how much i liked it. Don't make the brush wet, just slightly damp. I like short shader brushes with this palette, my favorite being from H&M believe it or not & it doesn't smell like mothballs ;-) Let me know if you try this! x x x
ReplyDeleteit is really nice, and the colour is awesome
ReplyDeleteI can completely understand re the naked 2 palette. Mainly because didn't like the original one - it just doesn't work for me. So I've ordered the second one and am hoping that one is better for me :) fingers crossed. At the end of the day everyone's different I guess :)
ReplyDeleteI love this look!
ReplyDeleteThat blazer is gorgeous! I love the pink Zara one that you linked us to as well!

Love love love your posts, Laura! You are a breath of fresh air!! <3
ReplyDeleteAs for the Naked2 palette, I will concur that these can be on a little more of the bland side, but I am IN LOVE with YDK and Chopper. I think the hype was just a "LITTLE" on the outrageous side, but hey, obviously it worked on me, so UD must know what they're doing to us - lol!
I'm really not trying to plug my site here, but here are two posts where I did an intial look: http://yourbeautyfashionfitness.blogspot.com/2011/12/naked-2-or-in-other-words-i-couldnt.html
and then where I experimented some more:

Again, these are only meant for your info to show you what I've done with it so far, and I'm not trying to spam you! Love your work, Laura! I look to you for fashion inspiration!!! <3 :)
you look bloody amazing! I love the colour of the blazer. so spring summer! ha ha

Hi Laura, the "polyester clusterf*ck" was funny. :) I think the you should get the Naked 2 Palette. It's a good piece for your makeup collection. A girl can never have too much eyeshadows.. lipsticks.. blushes.. haha!
ReplyDeleteI really like the colour of the blazer! And its looks really comfortable!
ReplyDeletelove the soft peachy colour! great fit too!!

LOVE IT! And totally know what you mean in regards to that H&M 'scent'x
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous colour. I don't own a blazer but think it's time I added one to my wardrobe!
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better
xx
The blazer looks amazing on you ! You are always so elegant ! xx
ReplyDeleteclayandbeauty.blogspot.com
I definitely get what you mean about the Naked 2. I think I mainly bought it just to "collect" it even though I convinced myself I would put it to good use. I think all the colors don't coordinate that well together and the palette leans too grey for me so when I wear the shadows I look like a zombie hot mess, so I reach for my original Naked palette more... I always fall into that vicious cycle of wasting money to experiment with new products, only to return to my staple old products.
ReplyDeleteit's your fault i just found your zara bag on their website and now desperately crave it... oh boy... ;D
ReplyDeleteHometownSnapshot
Eeek! I fear that about the Naked 2! gaah #whattodo
ReplyDeleteGreat blazer girl, so sophisticated, elegant and fresh! Love the pistachio Zara one as well xx

Cutee blazer <3
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree about the Naked 2 palette! Maybe I just need to "play" with it more but ugh...so disappointed!
ReplyDeleteThat peach color is so pretty, but I saw those Zara ones too and they are too cute! But great, I guess I'll be holding off on naked 2 for a little more then!
