....but I damn well did.
Another neutral palette for the collection...
I consider this my rebellion against Naked 2. Packaging and Half Baked aside, I really don't like it. It's a personal thing. I find the matte colours lacking in pigmentation and the effect of the shades a little too greige on my eyes. Literally every time I tried to work with it I would look in the mirror, grimace and declare that my make up looked like crap. (And no, it's not all down to the skillz of the "artist" :)
It's strange. To look at it's the perfect palette and there are some nice shadows in there, but they just don't work on my dark coloured eyes and skintone. I need warmth. I need my eyes to be lifted in subtle colour so that they don't look so ropey.
It just shows, not all neutrals are borne equal and that's a semi-expensive lesson I have learned.
Now the Too Faced Natural Eye palette? This is more me. There is only one dodgy shadow in the box and everything else is warm toned, smooth to apply and very pretty.
It's been out for years and I have ogled it from afar on many occasions. The cardboard packaging is a bit cheap and as I mentioned, there is one absolutely awful textured colour in there...see if you can spot what I am referring to in the pictures below...but it has everything else going for it.
I love the inclusion of the "best friend" colour - Velvet Revolver. It makes the perfect transition shade (much like Buck and Naked by Urban Decay). Erotica and Cocoa Puff are the most beautiful definition colours for crease and outer corner - laced with dimensional shimmer but not the kind that will fall out on application. Heaven is a great, uber-smooth base colour and Silk Teddy, Push Up and Honey Pot have me written all over them.
I piled on about 4 of the colours today and declared it a success.
I should say that the amount of shadow included in 6 of the colours is pretty small (.9g). It's certainly not as good value for money as the Naked palettes and the rate I pile it on I will be hitting pan sharpish!
During the same trip to Sephora I picked up the Make Up For Ever Uplight in number 11.
I read about this before and it reminded me of my beloved St Tropez face illuminator - now that stuff is the business. Anyway, the MUFE is a pearlized white-lilac and designed to be either mixed in with foundation or applied separately. It's a pretty effect and hours later remnants of that swatch can still be found on my hand.
A small confession: I have also recently purchased Chanel's Candeur Coco Lip Shine but as it looks like the other 20 "my lips but better" lipsticks I own I was too embarrassed to post it here.
Having said that, whilst outsiders won't know how it's different from the rest I really think it is. Maybe I should do a post on it... :)
Hope you are all well!

I've always wanted to try the Naked or Too Faced palette, but I'm with you on the Naked 2, I think it's not necessary!
ReplyDeletehttp://olgasrecord.blogspot.com/
yes you absolutely should have! pretty palette and i really like uplight, i use it often :)
ReplyDeleteohhhh i love the look of that palette, honeypot and push up especially look so good! the inside packaging does remind me a bit of urban decay though lol sorry!!
ReplyDeleteI also just got this recently and I used silk teddy, push up and honey pot in a look- gorgeous! Nude Beach is a bit of a disaster area though.
ReplyDeleteI have this! It was a complete spur of the moment splurge while I was shopping in boots, it was late, I was tired after uni and a little bored...perfect combination for splurge shopping but not a day has gone by that I've regretted it! Love this cute little thing...*runs off to dig it out its hole and show it some much deserved love* :D

it's funny how different things look on different skintones, i'm lighter than you but my lips are SO pigmented i'd never think Candeur is a my lips but better shade. it's sooo light on me, Boy is what i'd call a my lips but better shade, currently in love with it by the way...
ReplyDeletep.s. love when you post about makeup :)
I love this palette too... I adore silky teddy, i've hit pan on it and wish i could get it on it's own! Nude beach is the only colour that really annoys me, i love shimmer but i just get annoyed with the glittery specks!
ReplyDeleteThey sell Silk Teddy in a duo ;)

Ugh, Nude Beach! Straight away made me shudder! The others look perfect though... *adds to (enormous) wish list*
ReplyDeletePalette looks great! I wonder how it competes with Urban Decay Naked!
ReplyDeleteLove Uplight! super gorgeous
hiraschaos.blogspot.com
I love Naked from the original Urban Decay palette, I colour block it a lot. I'm about to hit pan and have been looking for a dupe (I scheduled a post today asking for suggestions!) as I don't really want to buy another Naked 1 palette yet just for the one shade but now I'm thinking, Velvet Revolver. ;) Silk Teddy looks very pretty and I'm not sure I've got a shade that looks anything like Erotica especially as it appears in your second pic. Great review.
ReplyDeletesorry to but in but the naked eyeshadow is available now to buy as a single pot from urban decay :) don't know where are you from but apparently they will be out soon in the UK
DeleteYay, thank you, Patricia.x
DeleteI have the Naked palette and to be honest, I prefer the Too Faced one. I totally can't justify more neutral shadows right now but it has been on my wishlist for ages.
ReplyDeletexo, alison*elle
please do a post with Chanel, I am thinking exactly about this color. I watched on it last wednesday but first I must spend my another x lipstick:))

Naked 1 is well loved by me, now Naked 2... too cool, I think, so I look washed out. This pretty Too Faced palette would have been a better choice for me, I think!
ReplyDeleteOmg, the palette looks amazing!:X
ReplyDeleteThe palette looks amazing! Nude beach and push up 'seem right up my street' as Cheryl would say ! xx

ReplyDeleteI bought the too faced naked eye palette and l-o-v-e it!
ReplyDeleteYou can see here http://off-na.blogspot.com/2012/01/7-too-faced.html
It's in Hebrew but you can see the pictures of the look I made..
Sorry for deleting my last comment, my name was in Hebrew so I changed it.
I bought that palette and the smokey eye one, the thing that annoys me about them is the bulkiness of the packaging, all for one drawer underneath holding one crappy sponge tip applicator, seems so wasteful, if it has been in sleek flat packaging with a mirror, I would have taken it everywhere
ReplyDeleteI am loving the naked palette, looked at the naked 2, seemed completely pointless so I went for the urban decay 15th anniversary palette and it is amazing!!I thoroughly recommend it! xx Gem
i love your posts. informative, funny, cheeky and honest all at the same time. don't ever stop!
ReplyDeleteI'm also holding out from buying the naked 2. Like you, I hate the packaging. totally bulky, excessive and annoying. I was just thinking that having the Naked 1 is enough neutrals for me...but I think you just may have changed my mind!

i like the shades a lot.. must try for me!

I have the Naked 1 and was in doubt about the second one. When I saw my sister's Too Faced Neutrals, my heart stopped. It's gorgeous! My next purchase! Loved your post about it!
ReplyDeleteYour purchases look absolutely gorgeous xx

yay! i am so happy to see natural aye palette in your post! after almost 2 years of using, today i hit the pan on erotica!!! i love my natural eye palette so much, and my naked eye and romantic eye and and and :))) i hope you enjoy it as much as i do! x
ReplyDeleteI love Too Faced stuff, their shadows & concealer are really good. This is so pretty, the colours look amazing! And I'd love to see the lipstick ;-)
ReplyDeleteOmg, the other day when I was wandering about Sephora I looked at this palette. I was torn between this and the naked 2 palette, but thought I hadn't heard anybody rave about it, so I thought it might be a miss, even though the colours are gorgeous. :) x

Really, really pretty palette! Just my kind of colours, nice a wearable and a bit of sparkle!

I have been wanting to try this out, but having both the Naked and Naked 2, I can't justify it. I agree the Naked 2 has more grey tones which I think go better with blue eyes, so I don't mind it! I personally hate the packaging of Too Faced more then Urban Decay.

I really wanna try to gel luminizer by make-up forever it looks so good!

THANKYOU:) (anyone who wants to follow , i will follow you back!)
I can't justify buying the Naked 2 just because it's too similar to the original. I'm also too in love with the original palette's packaging despite the fact the "NAKED" part has rubbed off thanks to excessive use and carting it with me around the world. Kind of tempted into the Too Faced palette but I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more make up until a few gaps start showing in my collection. Must. Leave. Bank Card. In. Purse!

I totally agree. I love the Naked palette...but naked palette 2 is 'meh' ive tried my hardest to use it as much as possible this month out of principle!

Please, please show us Chanel Candeur! :) I for one would really love to see it and what you think of it. I have been thinking about buying it for a while now, I had my make-up done at a Chanel counter on vacation in Prague and the MUA put this lipstick on me and I think I loved it, but am not sure...
ReplyDeleteThe Too Faced palette looks great, I really like Too Faced Shadows, my two faves are Full Frontal and Label Whore (which I think is the only dupe for MAC Club I have ever seen but I personally think it is prettier, like, somehow softer).
I'm running dangerously low on Cocoa Puff! I don't even know what I'll do afterwards. Re: embarrassed to show your lipstick -- I get that ALL THE TIME. I'm sure my readers are like, ...why does she keep buying neutral shadow?? I can't help myself.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping to buy the Naked pallette as others seem to love it but I have darker skin than yours and have dark eyes so may reconsider. I would love to see your Chanel Candeur though!!

Oh I love Too Faced Palettes. I have their smokey eye palette and I love it. Esp the little cards for different looks inside. Love how pretty and sparkly it is too. Really nice piece. Good pick.

I saw another review on this that was really positive, think I may need to invest! I'm so in love with Silk Teddy, looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeletekatieneedsajob.blogspot.com/
I swear, 99% of shadows that are hard to work with can be saved by using LA Splash sealer/base. Even if they have fallout or lots of shimmery glitter, too. It's not sticky or heavy on your lids once it's dry. :) I agree with your opinion on Naked 2, it looks ok on blondes or people with blue eyes, but to me it's bulky and not special. Check out Lorac Unzipped, Laura. It's gorgeous for your eye color, and not an average nude palette!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you about Naked 2- I love Naked 1 and use it quite often, but Naked 2 is just a whole different deal. I was so excited to receive it as a gift for Valentine's Day from my boyfriend, but was disapointed when I actually got around to putting it on my eyes. Like you, it just didn't work on me.
ReplyDeleteThis palette looks beautiful though! I'm actually considering picking up Lorac's Unzipped, another neutral palette, from Sephora soon. Hopefully it will be better than Naked 2!

The palette looks good, defs worth some investigation after reading this!

I love this palette, I use it a lot.

I love my Naked 2 because of the cooler tones-suits me better. I have this one too, but I don't use it-again it's much warmer and so I don't reach for it. Glad it works for you.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, I thought about getting this but never did. Then the "natural at night" one came out and I'm seriously considering that one.
ReplyDeletehttp://style-cocoon.blogspot.com/
I feel like you can never have too many neutral pallets...or maybe you can :) Great post. x
ReplyDeletehttp://cleomei.blogspot.com/
gorgeous palette! i was looking for something outside of the naked palettes as well. i always saw this from 'far away' but i'm glad you posted the inside of it because i really like the colours!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I'm glad to hear this about the Naked 2. I keep wondering if I should get it, but then, I also keep wondering why I don't love the Naked 1 more. Don't get me wrong, I do think there are some terrific shades in the Naked 1 and I use it.... I just don't use it as much as I thought I would. Refreshing candor, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThere looks some beautiful colours in there, very pretty :)

Oh, my favourite palette!
ReplyDeleteit's a cute palette indeed!
ReplyDeleteplz do Chanel Candeur Coco Lip Shine post! :-)
That palette looks amazing, I love all the colours in their, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteallaboutthegirlblog.blogspot.com xx
LOVE this palette too, and was meh about Naked palette two as well.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Love the colour range in that palette and how its a really nice size too! I didn't bother buying either of the naked palettes as I'm guilty of having far too many neutrals in my collection already! xx
ReplyDeleteI appreciate post about Coco shine, because I am thinking about it. I was looking at candauer last friday, but I said myself that I must spend 5 lipstick and then maybe:)

I have the Naked P 1 and it is just a bah. I would recommend you to give a try to Bobbi's Brown Mauve Palette. It is PERFECT and easy to achieve a soft-natural-sexy look.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, have you ever tried Bathina from BENEFIT? I'm searching for something glowy for my legs.
That looks like a lovely palette.

I have this palette! And yes, apart from Nude Beach which is a HOT mess, the colours are gorgeous... xx
