New in: MUFE

It's on again. That search for the flawless face and the slap that can help me get there.

I maintain that if you get the basics of brows and skin right, you don't even need anything else and ever since I first tried Studio Fix Fluid, where I saw how much better I looked and felt with a mask of base makeup, I have been obsessed with foundations.

Now of course my tastes have changed and I want a light, natural finish which still manages to hide away anything less than perfect. And preferably a product that doesn't stink.

The latest trial is Make Up For Ever's Mat Velvet +.  Every time I spot this I think "Tiffany D!" and seeing as her make up is always perfect it was about time I gave it a whirl. I was matched to the shade 35 and used it for the first time today.

The way it applied and set was a bit of a shock. In the best possible way.

I thought t would be quite thick and dry with a flat, matte finish. It's nothing like that. It's a gel consistency and looks natural - not shiny, not matte. Just skin. I think this is going to be good!

Next - the concealer

Make Up For Ever Full Cover. Oh how I love thee!

I first bought a tube of this in San Francisco, probably 4 years ago. It's great coverage without looking cakey and a small 15ml tube will last me at least a year. No joke. It's quite rich so a little goes a long way and all that jazz but to cover redness, zits, and tired under eyes, this is what you need.

Finally - the eye brow kit

So after I had the HD brow treatment last August I realised what I needed to do to create a nice brow shape. I am one of those people who need to get artistic and draw in the sparse spots and I have been toying with a few different products to try and create a natural look.

This is pretty tricky. Try something too dark and it's "Sharpie brows". And don't even get me started with all those red-based brown brow products that have haunted my years of experimentation!?! *Angry face*

I read about the Make Up For Ever "Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector" a few months ago and got round to buying it last night.

It comes in a few colours (I spotted about 5) and is a rich cream consistency packaged much like MAC's old Select concealer.

I got the kit which comes with two little brushes as well as the product itself (number 3). And so far? It's fantastic.

It has stayed put through hours of cleaning (glam as ever) and walking outside in the heat.

Okay so application is a bit of a pain in the arse. Cream product + brush requires an investment of time and a hideously unflattering magnifying mirror if you want to get it right. I opted to use the fine eyeliner-like brush that comes in the kit and created little hair-like strokes with a teeny amount of product. It took about 5 minutes and during the working week this is likely to become something I resent.

However, I do think it's worth it in terms of end result. I instagram'd a picture earlier to give you an idea of the shape I attempt to create!

And that's all for now...

I am quite excited about all of these products. It's lovely to get all the basics sorted and feel confident with the output. I will keep you updated if anything changes but so far, very good! And I have to give a shout out to the staff at Sephora in Mall of the Emirates. They were only minor-stalkerish with their approach to customer service and this can be forgiven because they were very friendly and gave me lots of samples :)

Have you tried any of these products?

And seeing as I am on a Make Up For Ever roll, what else would you recommend?

  3. I haven't had much luck with the MUFE products so far, but the Full Cover concealer is something I rely on!
I hear the lipsticks are great, as well as the HD liquid blushes and higlighters (but the packaging isn't very smart) and Aqua pencils for budgeproof eyelining!

  5. The brow corrector has been on my Someday I should Give that a Go list ever since Lisa Eldridge used it in her Pin Up tutorial. I just don' think I have the skills to pull it off with my very spares brows without it looking unnaturally filled in. Hats off to you! ps. Mat Velvet+ = Tiffany D in my mind too!

  7. I tried Mat Velvet awhile ago but it didn't work for me unfortunately! I feel like it looked dull on me and clung to my dry patches even though i don't even have very dry skin. Really wanted to like it to achieve TiffanyD-like skin! MUFE Face and Body is quite awesome though :)

  8. I got this foundation last year and haven't used it too much, no idea why. I'm the same as you, I hear Mat Velvet+ and I automatically think Tiffany D and after seeing her recent tutorial where she applied it with a damp brush, I've been inspired to play with it again... That and my MUFE Aqua Cream in Coral, I will have coraly peachy cheeks for the whole summer if it kills me!

  14. Oooo! They look like some lovely products! I love the MUFE face and body foundation. Very light but covers up quite well. You can also add several layer without it looking too 'cakey'- the smell isn't too pleasant though, think of baby wipes :D x

  15. I LOVE seeing beauty posts from you - your taste in makeup is impeccable. I think you've spawned more lemmings for me than any other blogger/YTer. :) I've tried the Mat Velvet + and I did love the texture but it felt so heavy and the color was off and I never bothered to try another color. It seemed very mask like. I have to suggest Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua for "makeup that looks like skin." My skin is not perfect by any means but it covers well and the texture is so light, it's perfect for summer! I think you'd love it. From MUFE I'd suggest trying their liquid blushes - especially for the climate - I live in Florida and they work wonderfully with the heat & humidity. :)

  33. After using the MUFE HD Foundation for years now, I was going to try something new - the Mat Velvet + (couldn't resist Tiffany D's review either :D). When in the store, I was told it's for oily skin only, which I don't have. Bummer... I ended up buying Helena Rubinstein's Color Clone, which I really like so far, BUT I am going to get the Mat Velvet + anyway. I will make it work somehow! :)

  34. I am completely in love with MUFE's Aqua Cream in 15. I think you might like it....seems the color would probably suit you. I have 12 & 1 also and like them, too. But, 15 is my daily go-to over all my other palettes lately.

Funny thing is, I didn't like it much at all on the first try. Had to learn a quicker blend to get it to look good. Now that I have that down, I get it on in seconds in the morning. Anyway. LOVE. : )

You have me really wanting to try Mat Velvet now.....think that'll be my next purchase. : )

  40. SMOKY LASH! I wore the waterproof one to the beach one day (as a test) and it didn't flake, budge, nothing. I think they should rename it "permalash." I then deemed it wedding-day worthy. Let me tell you, I didn't need to wear any falsies or extensions on my wedding day because of that mascara! It's just effing good stuff! It can be a pain to remove at the end of the day, and may do some slight damage if you try to wear it every single day. That's why I generally use a cheapie like Maybelline blackest black for everyday, and MUFE's if I want big, giant, long-lasting "sexy" lashes.

  42. Oh how I wish MUFE was easily available in England! I can't handle the fuss of ordering the products online. However, MUFE always does give me an excuse to go on holiday and 'pass by' one of their counters ;) Last month, I decided after years (no joke) to purchase the HD Foundation - I did think of Tiffany D and Mat Velvet+ too, but my skin is quite dry so decided to buy the HD version. Mixed with my Jemma Kidd Light As Air, it's a match made in MU heaven. I just wish I had remembered to buy the Full Cover concealer too, dammit!

I would recommend the Aqua Lip Liners, especially in 15C. Also, the Aqua Smokey Lash mascara and the HD Powder :)

  45. Hej Laura, you make me want to buy the foundation! I´ve just about given up on foundations because the hunt is just too much of a trouble and cost money. So I opted for tinted moisturizer instead. BUT ( that´s a big BUT!) It sounds like something I would like...light but gives coverage. But maybe it´ll break me out? That´s my biggest problem, you see :(

Let us know how it adapts to your skin. I have sensitive, oily and acne proned skin so I´m always very careful with what I slap on my face ;)
