The Reiss Didsbury Dress

This marks the first of many outings for this dress.

Out of all the things I saw at the REISS press day, this was the "one" that I had to have. It was special. I loved the weight and quality of the fabric, the shocking red shade, the cutwork detail at the base and the round neck/dipped back combo. It's bodycon-meets-a-line.

It's a practical choice...I would like to think.

I can wear this to work/in the evening if I wanted but I can equally wear it to brunch on a sweaty Friday. It goes best with heels (a metallic sandal would be a good choice) but I can get away with flats if I am feeling slightly more realistic.

FYI: This is one of those REISS items that borders on overpriced. I have a discount card which is why I bought it in the first place but a red dress is not a novel offering at this time of year: most of the high street stores are offering a variation on this - ASOS and Mango are just two more reasonably priced examples.

Dress: REISS - Link!
Bag: Celine
Sunglasses: Celine
Shoes: Christian Louboutin (PS. one of the spikes has fallen off. I do wear these alot but IMHO that's pretty crap quality..)

I had one of those "I hate my hair" moments last week and made a hair appointment in anger. I have been secretly toying with the idea of a radical chop and have been thinking along these lines...

My theory was: maintain the extensions so that I can achieve that blunt edge with the cut (I got them for thickness after all) but freshen things up, cut some length and perhaps spend the next 12 months writing blogposts that lament the loss of my long, dry and damaged hair.

That was the plan.

Typically in the days since I have had outstanding hair days where everything has fallen into place. Waves have dropped beautifully and the roots have had the right amount of volume. Why does this always happen?

I think this means my request to the hairdresser will be the removal of centimetres rather than inches. Maybe a more dramatic transformation next time? ... :)

  1. I adore your pumps (even with a missing spike) :)

    1. @bee cee - :) i love them too but am a bit miffed but I have to wedge one spike back in it's place :)

    2. Didn't they come with a few extras in a baggie? Most high-end shoes come with heel pads so I imagine spiked shoes would have the same?! Though, I know how you feel I have a pair of Sam Edelmen spiked heels and I was pretty peeved when I lost a stud.

  2. The dress is so pretty, I love clothes with cut outs :)

  3. The dress may not be anything revolutionary but it sure is a gorgeous piece I'd love to add to my wardrobe. In fact, I might!

  4. yep, dentist and hairdresser appts - always the same.

  5. I can't believe a spike has gone AWOL already. I'd be taking them back for a replacement pair I think!

  6. So gorgeous!!!

  7. Lovely dress! Just out of curiosity, who's the girl in hair inspiration picture? :) x

  8. Absolutely adore this dress Laura ...soo pretty! Red is soo in this season.

  9. The dress is so elegant, perfect for all year round!

I'm also thinking about getting a bit of a chop... Decisions decisions! Xx

  10. Such a classic dress! The red is just gorgeous. Those studs need to be glued on til the day you die LOL, for the price they charge.

  11. Love the dress. It's so pretty and elegant. Incidentally, I live very near a place called Didsbury. It's a lovely area just south of Manchester and I'm hoping to buy a house there once I've saved up a few more pennies :)

  12. Love your outfit x

  13. I went for a dramatic chop and I couldn't be happier! My hair is so bouncy and looks and feels so much healthier! I think that style would suit you quite well, too. Also, you look lovely in red :)

  14. I went for a dramatic chop earlier this year and now I have extensions to make up for the lost length, ha. I can never decide! LOVE the dress btw...

  15. Right, that dress is exquisite on you (I've never used that word to describe a dress before, but really it is). You'll have it for a long time too, so don't sweat the price - as for the hair, don't do it! I know you Lau, and you WILL regret it. You love long hair, it's your thing, so take your newly behaved hair as a peace offering from your locks, who undoubtedly knew what you were plotting... x

  16. I get that way with my hair all the time but hopefully you don't do anything too drastic that you end up regretting! And love the dress on you... fits you really well, Laura!

    xo, alison*elle

  17. I can't believe a spike went missing! For that price, they should stay put forever!

  18. Sucks about the shoes, I hate paying a premium for a sub par product.
With that being said you look gorgeous and your outfit looks great!

  19. go for the chop, you will never look back! I did mine about a year ago and was the best change for me! xx

  20. Super gorgeous dress, adore the hemline! Waiting to see what happens with your hair!
Have a wonderful week Laura xoxo

  21. Absolutely love the dress and how it has the detailed cut-outs at the bottom. Gives it a bit something extra! xo Jess

  24. I love the dress! I have been toying with the idea of getting some dresses & skirts. How are the sizes like? Would love to try it in the shops but unfortunately there's none available in Australia. Thanks. :)

  25. That's a lovely dress to have in your wardrobe, one of those classic styles that you will always be able to pull out! I know what you mean about the hair too, I really want to get a dramatic choppy cut but just can't bring myself to do it! x

  31. Red is a great colour on you and perfect for fall!

  32. Wow..! that's so nice! all product are very good.. and all tips n advice are so useful.! Thanks for sharing all information with us.. :)

  33. i absolutely adore this dress and when i first saw it in my blog subscriptions, i really didn't think i would. i think it looks like a really lovely shape and one that i don't tend to go for. i bought a black dress last year for sixth form that was similar to this and i always ended up getting compliments when i wore and was told it flattered my shape. unfortunately it is a little too expensive for me but i'll definitely keep my eye out for something similar! i think it looks like such a smart-but-not-too-smart piece! :) i can't wait to see what you decide to do with your hair either! :) X

  34. Such a beautiful dress! :)
