Bobbi Brown Art Sticks

Every brand under the sun has some kind of fat lip pencil on the market so you might think that Bobbi Brown Art Sticks are a bit of a dull release.

I get that - we have seen it before - but there is something unique about these and I think that it's all in the texture.

These are creamiest, most pigmented, wearable and long(ish) lasting lip pencils that I have tried. And I have tried Clinique and NARS.

Okay, those brands have a more eclectic/extended shade range (Bobbi Brown's initial offering is just 8) but I think that the Art Stick has the greatest feel and finish.

I have said it already but I'll repeat myself because there just isn't a more appropriate word - they are extremely creamy. We are talking creamy to the point where you could legitimately apply them on your cheeks as a cream blush and in fact that is one way that the brand say you can wear them.

The shea butter formula prevents any dry lip shrivel and they both feel and wear like a moisturising soft matte lipstick.

I got two shades - an everyday deep rose colour (Rose Brown) and a sparky tangerine (Sunset Orange.)

Rose Brown reminds me of my favourite By Terry lipstick - 101 Flirty Rosy. It's a grown-up sophisticated rosy/mauve/neutral colour that I think (hope) is pretty flattering.

Sunset Orange is a muted orange shade. Well, having said that it's still quite bright but it's not Morange. You can wear this out, not feel self-conscious, but still feel bright and summery.

I mentioned that I find them long(ish) lasting. They are not stains so over a few hours the colours get muted. I can live with that and I quite like the residue that they leave behind because they seem to magically fade evenly - no outer lip line action happening here.

Before I shut up I have some advice:

1) Don't go by the plastic swatch at the end of stick. Look closely at the Rose Brown packaging above and you will see what I mean. The swatch looks like it should belong to a colour called "Sludge" whereas the actual product is far prettier and lighter.

2) Try not to follow my lead and lose the sharpener. These bad boys are chubby and need something that will accommodate them.

These are apparently on counters in April and are permanent (hurrah!). You can get them on Bobbi Brown, Sephora and all the usual suspects like Nordstrom, Macy's etc for $26. I am not sure what's happening in the UK as I can't find them anywhere - when they are released sometime this month they should be around £19. In the UAE they cost 155 AED.

Thank you for reading everyone!

  31. Wow now I need to try these! I like the Nars pencils although some are a bit too matte and are hard to get on (darker shades like train blu). I wasn't a big fan of the chubby sticks as I didn't think they were matte enough. I actually love the revlon ones! Still need to try these. Hope they have them in Canada now.
