Lighter part 2

Taking dark hair to blonde is a commitment. And a time-consuming one at that.

When I last talked to you all about this I had lightened the base and added some balayage and ombre to break it up. The plan was to be sensible and return to the colourist's chair in about a month for more balayage.

Well, you know me, I couldn't wait. So I made the appointment (MUCH) earlier than planned, made an apology to my hair and toddled back to Anthony at Pastels/Ritz Carlton this weekend.

To be blunt, Anthony balayaged the shizz out of it and the end result is a light honey shade that I really really like.

We have decided that more all over balayage will be undertaken in a couple of weeks and then I will probably be as light as I can comfortably go.

I feel like this might be a case of famous last words....can you be addicted to bleach?

I know it's not a dramatic change but I think this is the lightest I have ever been.

You have seen me go down the highlight route before but I always reverted to brunette because I felt that the tone wasn't right. This time round there is no way I'll do that. There's just enough brightness and warmth to keep me happy.

I have to say a big thank you to Anthony for making this happen and if you want to read more about how he did it check out his blogpost :) Link!

PS. If you have any deep conditioning treatments that you swear by do let me know. I feel like this might be the time that I finally try out Joico K-PAK.... :)

  2. I got ombre hair about two months ago and I find Ojon hair treatment to be the best at deep conditioning. I like to leave it on overnight and wash it in the morning, and it makes my hair feel really soft :)

  6. You look SO good blonde! I would try the Redkin Extreme repair conditioner - the tub one. It's like an intense conditioning treatment! I used it a few years ago and its fantastic for dry hair. xx

  7. This looks fantastic! I'm considering going light myself and would love any tips about how you described this look to Anthony, or the pictures you used. I'm terrified to end up with orange-y blonde highlights instead of this warm tone.

  8. Wow you look so good! Sounds kind of weird but the lighter colour seems to light up your face, it just looks lovely :)

  9. It looks amazing, Laura and it is quite a change from your dark chocolate locks. I've literally just tried a new (to me) conditioner from a brand call Ian Clayton Smith and I wasn't expecting much but, aside from the Phytocitrus and Joba hair masks, it has kind of wowed me more then any other conditioners. I wish I could speed up the process of going blonde too but 'cos i'm addicted to the extensions, I can't afford to go quite as fast. I'll probably get there just as winter begins and dark becomes the tone to have. Typical . . ! x

  10. I do like the hair! I've been balayage-ing for years and can really recommend the Joice K-PAK line. Good stuff!

  11. Organic Coconut Oil is your new best friend... trust me. It will beat out any high end deep mask conditioner on the market. Take it from a long time bleach blonde that hates to get a haircut. twice a week I run it through my hair in a light coating, sleep on it and my hair is as soft and manageable as can be. It's so affordable too - it's worth a shot!

  12. Looks soooooooo good Laura, really suits and you can definitely pull it off with your skin tone! :) looks fabby! (you don't even want to know how many times my macbook tried to auto correct that to tabby!! ha!)

I can second Meagan with the Coconut Oil recommendation, take it from a girl who IS addicted to bleach and has been highlighting her hair and basically abusing the sh*t out of it since I was 15 and was introduced to a bottle of Sun-In!! (do you remember that?!) If you're looking for something a little bit luxurious, Philip Kingsley the Elasticizer is also pretty awesome.

    Hope you're well!

  15. I'm a big fan of coconut oil! I just got some for the first time two weeks ago and I already see a difference in my hair. It's curly and very dry naturally so I'm sure it works well with hair that's been treated as well. It looks lovely on you though!

  16. It looks lovely Laura! Can you get hold of Ojon? I love the Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment - you put it on half hour/longer if you want before you wash your hair. Not the best smelling product but really works :)

  28. I don't know if it's easy to find Aphogee products outside the US, but their 2-minute keratin reconstructor conditioner is awesome, as is their 2-step protein treatment. Both saved my hair when I was doing keratin straightening AND relaxers, and fixed my friend's bleached out, fried hair. For moisture, coconut oil is the best.

  30. I got my hair ombred at a L'Oreal event - and have been using the hair care they provided (the color Radiance line)...and I'm absolutely amazed at how healthy my hair is...considering it's the lightest it's ever been. In particular, the conditioner and the hair oil are amazing...the conditioner replaces my previous favourite (Macadamia Deep Conditioning Treatment) while the hair oil is much lighter yet more frizz-killing than Morrocan Oil! (In case you're interested - pic of my hair and the hair products are in this post: http://ellaprettyblog.blogspot.ca/2014/04/going-blondegetting-perfect-touch-of.html)

  31. Gorgeous! I did the same and I highly recommend Joico K-Pak liquid reconstructor. Also instead of conditioner I use a mask (Wella Professionals Brilliance treatment for fine to normal, coloured hair) and leave it for one hour or so.

  48. Smooth Lock Buttersilk by Redken is an absolutely amazing treatment! My stylist sold it to me after I had ombre done and the next time I came in she could not believe what great condition my hair was in and even bought herself a bottle! I use Redken All Soft as my everyday shampoo and conditioner. I used to use the K-Pak line (for nearly 3 years!) and noticed a tremendous difference in my hair when I switched over to Redken.

  49. Really love the new colour, very summery! I'd definitely recommend Kerastase Oleo Relax Slim Mask and lots and lots of coconut oil (as a pre shampoo treatment). I'm so desperate to change my hair colour, I really bored with it atm but it's in such bad condition I'm not sure it will survive the bleach!
