The Structured Skater Dress

Things you should know about this dress.

1) It's a lint magnet. You will gather dust and hairs as you journey through your day and constantly crave a lint roller.

2) There is netting in the skirt. This made me a bit nervous initially but this is the thing that gives the "structure" and ultimately the fullness.

3) It's booby and leggy. Wear in appropriate places. In Dubai this means the beach (or not really because who goes to the beach in a smart dress?), beach/expat type cafes, hotels and your house :)

Having said all of the above I have worn it twice in less than a week. I love the shape!

My tan by the way is fake. The James Read bronzing mousse is now competing for first place in my affections with the Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse in Dark. And I am happy about recommending the latter because it's far more affordable and we all like that!

I picked this up on a whim in Superdrug a couple of weeks ago. This is amazing stuff and don't let the "Dark" tag scare you off. It will definitely leave you tanned but in a deep, golden glow that still manages to look somewhat convincing. It does fade quite quickly but what I have always liked about mousse's is that they are easier to scrub off should you want to start from scratch.

My tips for application would be:

1) Don't leave it on for an hour. Go much longer. I tried the 1 hour thing and it all came off in the shower. Sometimes I sleep in it (if I really want to ruin my sheets) or sometimes I leave it on for about 4-5 hours, especially if I am just busy doing nothing at home during the day.

2) Use a mitt and wash your hands after applying to each limb. I do this to avoid tan hands as this is very good at drying very quickly!

For the record I don't put this anywhere near my face. I just don't bother fake tanning my face anymore. This is a recent decision but I think my skin is going to thank me and enjoy not getting clogged up. Plus this gives me a chance to address the drawer full of foundations in various hues when trying to get a decent face/body match :)

Hope you are having a great weekend! See you all tomorrow!

  3. So wearing this at a mall in Dubai would be inappropriate? :0

    1. I personally wouldn't....well there is one mall where I think it would be okay...but stuff like this can be really offensive and I don't want to be that provocative when its just as easy to cover up a bit. You need a big wardrobe here for all the changes :) haha

  24. I have to have a bit of a grumble here. Why is it that a quality, affordable self tanning mousse is impossible to find in store in the US? The only one that I know of is St. Tropez, which is so incredibly expensive. The Cocoa Brown one doesn't seem to be shippable to the US; at least that's what I gathered from the sites I've looked at. St. Moriz can only be purchased on Amazon and eBay and the last bottle I ordered leaked like mad and took weeks to ship from the UK. Ahhh! I wish there was an affordable mousse that I could pick up at the drugstore. I have purchased the Jergens mousse gradual tanner, but that only leaves me a slightly orange color. Bleck. I love St. Moriz, but I hate having to order online. The UK seems to have far more options than the US. And I'm fairly sure the Aussies have quite a few options at stores like Priceline. First world problem, I know. I guess this is how a lot of Brits and Aussies feel about the drugstore brands they have to pay an arm and a leg for that us in the US can get so easily and affordably. Bleh. Any who, with all that being said, anyone know of a mousse here in the US that I'm missing out on?

P.S. Don't even get me started on the total lack of micellar waters here! Haha.

Thanks for letting me have a place to whine, Laura. I love your blog! I miss your YouTube videos. Any chance you'd think about doing them again?

    xo,
    Frances

  29. A structured skater dress is usually perfect for almost all occassions ! you can look amazing without seeming like ur too dressed up and alternatively you can dress it up if required! Sad that the booby and leggy part makes it not so appropriate in Dubai though! Great blog btw! Maybe we can follow each other on bloglovin/pinterest/twitter if you like my blog as well? lemme know :)
