Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipsticks

Clinique is a brand with huge nostalgia factor for me. I used to sneak into my sister’s room and play with her stash when I was at school and then when I went to university, ploughed a chunk of my student loan into their skincare routine.

I haven’t really kept up with their makeup releases so I was very happy to see a little bag waiting for me when I got home from work last week. I was even happier to see that inside were two lipsticks that were – and I mean this in the nicest possible way – a generic pink and nude.
Suede (L) and Petal (R) are part of the Long Lasting Soft Matte series. This range is meant to offer us creamy, matte lip colour with staying power that refuses to feather or dry out. In other words these lipsticks are little overachievers.

After trying them out for a few days I would have to describe these as Matte Light. They offer all the goodness of a fully matte counterpart – great pigmentation, a long lasting finish – but without suffering under a heavy texture or sucking the goodness from your lips.

In a way they remind me of the original YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks. With one quick slick you get a great finish from a thinly textured product and although these lack the gloss factor that come with the former, you still benefit from a shade with colour clout.

Now onto the two I was sent...

Suede is a neutral colour that I cannot stop wearing. It's so boring and safe but something I cannot suppress a smile for. It has a hint of warmth in it that makes it wearable. Think Vanilla Suede by Estee Lauder.

Petal is a fun variation on a classic rose. It better showcases the pigmentation – this is one careless slick. It's extremely wearable but still bright enough to elevate a look.

Overall, I would say that these retain their intensity for a good 2 hours and then start to disappear from view from that point. That’s pretty good going for me.

The Soft Matte’s hit Dubai Mall’s Sephora on June 16th. I know this for certain because today I bought two more.

And honestly, these colours look absolutely incredible: Mandarin and Peony. These are, in my opinion, the most fun.

As you can guess, this probably isn’t the last you will hear about this range – expect a mug shot with these very, very soon! :)

What do you think about Clinique lipsticks?

  8. Beautiful colors!!!

  9. I love the look of all these shades but Petal is so pretty and right up my street :) x

  10. Great review! I need to try these, they look absolutely gorgeous. I love the matte finish and the fact that these are non-drying is a major plus! x

  11. Ah petal needs to make it into my make up bag!

  12. Saw Mandarin on another blog recently and it looks insanely gorgeous! I want it already! Pay day on Wednesday....I am feeling a little treat :)

  13. I've been waiting to get my hands on one of these for ages, they look really great

  14. These are just gorgeous, dying to get my hands on the Mandarin shade!

  15. What blush are you wearing? It is so glowing without being garish, or accentuating pores (at least not from what I can see)

Btw, you look like a natural JLo, like what she wished she looked like. Similar nose, features etc, but she has a team to make her 'JLo'.
You are just you with an international style sensibility. Rather than just being from the block. Make sense?

  16. Love those last two colors! So gorgeous!

  17. I can't wait to see how the new 2 colors looks on you. :)

  18. clinique lipsticks were my first highend lipsticks and therefore they'll always have a special place in my beauty obsessed heart haha! Definitely need to pick up one...or more when these pop up in the US!

  19. Wow! They look so different on to how they look in the stick. Love the nude!
    Hugs xoxo

  20. These look lovely on you Laura, I really like the look of the bright ones too. Clinique is a brand I've never really tried, I like you ploughed my part time job wages on their skincare routine but it caused a reaction, ever since then I've never really gone back to the brand.

  21. Do they dry out your lips at all? I've been struggling to find a good lipstick that retains moisture without rubbing off in 15 minutes.

  22. Wow! Both shades look gorgeous on you. I will certainly try these out. I've steered away from Clinique lipsticks as I found them so drying. But I will definitely try these out.

  23. Pretty! I love that they're bright, but not overwhelming!

  24. My boyfriend was next to me as I was reading this and he glanced over and said 'she looks like Jennifer Anniston' ;-)
Your makeup is just stunning in the Suede picture! Loving your cheek combo.
