Life Lately #2

Wow! I have blogged with a woeful lack of frequency lately. Many apologies! I'll use this post as a bit of catch up to let you know what I have been up to!

(Top - Bottom, L-R)

1. Espadrilles. Oh yes. Alright, so I am about a year too late but thank goodness for H&M. I love this pair and if I am wearing my GAP chinos, then I am wearing these. So comfortable without looking horrendous. I am so pleased the sensible shoe is in fashion..although for me Birkenstocks are perhaps a leap too far. Undecided. Come back to me in a couple of years when they are not officially "in" and I will no doubt have a pair.

2. My blogging absence is largely attributed to these two - #rogerandrose. They are getting on well. She follows him around, he tries to eat her food, they chase each other during walkies: it's a little blossoming friendship.

3. Roots. It's hard work pretending that you are naturally fair haired. I had way too much warmth and root going on so made a maintenance trip back to Anthony at Pastels in JBR. As always he delivered exactly what I wanted. I now have sandy shaded hair that could pass as my own natural colour...if it wasn't for my raven eyebrows, speaking of which, what do we think about bleaching these?

4. Thursday night catch up at Laura's house. It all looks very romantic with the candles and flowers and pink champagne, doesn't it? She prepared ordered in a lovely pizza for me as well :)

5. Dinner, shisha and a humongous fruit platter at Reem al Bawadi in Marina. This place is a bit of a tourist trap but you can't visit/live in Dubai without going to a Reem every now and then! Gimme a batata harra, shish taouk, grape-mint, some mint tea (medium sweet) and a big gossip session with friends please!

6. Speaking of Marina, every time I am in that area I feel compelled to snap a picture of Cayan Tower AKA Twisty Building and it's neighbours. If it's at sunset then I cannot be controlled.

7. I finally downloaded a new book. I haven't read anything substantial for a long time so in order to restart my brain I opted for a tome - Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. I feel like I have been very dedicated in ploughing through this but Kindle tells me I am still at 6%! This is going to take a long time but it is apparently a biographical journey that you want to be part of so I will persevere.

8. Shopping wise I will admit to making a sneaky ASOS order (3 dresses!), downloading the new Coldplay album and buying two new Essie polishes. I am trying Topless & Barefoot for the second time - I seem to remember it not working that well for me before but so many of you adore it - and it's a debut for Fishnet Stockings, a colour that looks like the perfect red/replacement for OPI's discontinued Vodka & Caviar!

9. Roger finally got his grooming session in. Doesn't he look cute/like he desparately wants that treat I am dangling above his head in an attempt to get him to pose? I won't bore you by going on about how hot it is but woah....and poor Roger was running around with a giant fur coat on. This is his summer "do" but we make sure the groomer doesn't chop off his 'tache - he's got to keep channelling that Burt Reynolds impression after all :)

I hope you are all well! I missed you! :)

  1. Lovely espadrilles - the stripes are cute! I am with you on Birkenstocks - not quite my scene either!

I really want to read Shantaram - I have heard it's brilliant so think I need to download it to the Kindle rather than get the paperback - not sure I fancy lugging that on the tube!

    1. Definitely one to download - I think Kindles are for massive books like this and books that you would be too embarrased to openly read in public (ie, Katie Price type novels :) haha

  2. We missed you too Laura!!! Love Reem but I am a stalwart Jumeriah Beach Road girl-when I used to work for HSBC we were the office next door! But Reem has taken over that whole complex now. Mmmm kebba and halloumi :-) xx

    1. ooh yes the halloumi! Had that the other night as well :) The JBH one is definitely a better choice - I always take visitors there and they think they are in some Arabian themed Disneyland :)

  3. I love reading your blog! You were the first person I watched on YouTube when I was like 13, you inspired to me make my own blog at 15.. I literally loved your effortless style and how you pulled off nude lips without it looking like concealer - which people actually did. So glad you still blog haha, I'm in the process of going blonde myself as I have been previously and it is always the maintanance that puts my off, atleast it is an excuse to go to the hair dressers and alot! xxxx

  6. Omg how cute is Roger! Liking the Espadrilles! H&M you say?

  7. When I was blond I dyed my brows to match. Looks very good but eyebrow grows very quickly and before I knew it I had dark brown eyebrows again. The maintenance on dying brows is a bit "too much" but if you have the time and patience go for it. Just beware of going to light. Lifting the color on the brows just a shade would probably suffice.

  16. Life Lately is my new favourite thing! :) glad little Rose is settling in too.

I bought Essie Topless & Barefoot on eBay last week, just waiting for it to arrive from the states, giving my nails a break this week from polish and it's not a pretty site! first time in about 4 years I think!

I loved that Twisty building when I was staying in Dubai, it fascinated me! (doesn't take a lot mind!) however I couldn't help but think it looks a bit unfinished on the top?!

    Hope you're well :)

  17. Shantaram is one of my favorite books ever! It is HUGE, but I found it to be one of those reads, that, when you finish it, you are sad about the fact that you will never be able to read it for the first time again (if that makes sense - english is not my first language ;))

    1. Thats so funny! Its the exact same thing I always tell people when I recommend that book. That I always wish I could read it again for the first time. It really is something special right :)
