FOTD/NOTD (AKA waffle)

Today was a day for rummaging through the makeup drawers and retrieving some old favourites for a comfort zone FOTD. I love every single product that I applied and that makes me extremely happy!
First things first, I broke open a new tub of Clarins Extra Comfort foundation. This remains holy-grail material for me. My husband, ever eager to offer his opinion, has asserted that it makes my skin look like plastic. How amazing is that? : )

I set that with a teeny quantity of Laura Mercier Mineral Powder foundation. The great thing about this powder is that it doesn’t compromise the finish of the foundation – you still get the glow but you also get longevity. Bare Minerals does perform quite similarly.

For blush I opted for MAC’s Easy Manner. This was a limited edition release. This is akin to a whisper of colour – a liberal application gently sculpts and warms. It’s a foolproof beauty that is the same vein as NARS Douceur. Benefit Watt's Up was also added as a matter of course - a highlighter like no other.

Now eyes.

The base was Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Pink Gold. It’s actually not very gold at all – it’s just an icy pink – but is a gorgeous, decent performing product that I would urge anyone keen on warm eyes to buy. MAC Sable was then applied on the outer half (memory lane!) and lower lash line with MAC Naked Lunch acting as obnoxious highlighter – a role it fills so well.

After brows were filled in with some MAC Lingering, I tight-lined with an old school kajal I bought in Doha during my trip earlier this year. I was inspired to do this after watching lisalisad1’s latest tutorial this morning. It gives that defined eye look without involving a complicated process/large amount of product. A more legit product (ingredient wise) would be the classic Guerlain kajal…I remember they did a beautiful elephant grey colour. I need to look into that.

sidetracked

Lashes were courtesy of the tackily titled Miss Manga by L’oreal. I actually love this mascara and the more it ages the better it gets. One coat and you get pretty fluttery lashes, add more and you get some seriously statement strands. The flexible wand felt a little unstable on the first few uses but now I love it for getting right into the root of every single hair.

And finally lips…I clearly could not be bothered in that department today so it was a Dior lipgloss in 363/Dormeuse. It’s been a while since I wore any glosses by this brand and the quality/consistency really is worth the cash. There’s no overtly artificial scent and it actually feels moisturizing on the lips.

I got all dolled up for nothing though as today I just pottered around the house and cleaned out my wardrobe. I haven’t really done this for about 6-9 months -  I have focused more on acquiring - and I really need to reduce the clutter and get rid of anything that I don’t 100% love/want to wear on a regular basis.  I think I did pretty well!

NOTD

Before I go I will leave you with what is currently on my nails.

I was feeling particularly zen yesterday and decided to try out the whole base colour with contrasting outline thing.

God this is hard. I tried so many different ways of doing it but in the end did the following:
  1. Painted the nail with Model’s Own Beach Bag (side note: the consistency of this is now terrible….appallingly gloopy and thick)
  2. Painted Essie’s Barefoot and Topless over the top, leaving small gaps at the base and side of the nail to reveal the Beach Bag underneath.
  3. Added another coat of Barefoot and Topless to ensure an opaque finish
  4. Got a random brush to paint the top of the nail and connect the neon colour outline. For this I used an old Sigma brush and tried to steady a shaky hand.
  5. Applied topcoat and tried to decide whether this looks really cool or like I just didn’t remove the bright nail polish properly before painting on a new colour J
It was fun/frustrating to do but one hand definitely looks better than the other so I think tomorrow I will be removing and going with a more classic one colour look J

Hope you had a great Friday!

  1. You are absolutely glowing, Laura! I love the effect of Benefit's Watts Up on you. And the kajal you used looks perfect for your gorgeous eyes. I like the mascara's effect (even though I cringe at the name), too! Your nails look brilliant, too! I have no patience (or skill) to achieve that, though :)

  3. I have had an AWFUL make up day today (I officially hate the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet now, I've decided!) everything has slid off my face and I look a big ol' mess! So this post has made me reach for my favourite items tomorrow morning.

I'm keen to try that Clarins Extra Comfort Foundation, what would you compare it to? Like you, I'm a big fan of the plastic look! (I have a Fiance who has the same views as your husband though! ha!)

Great nails, I would never have a steady enough hand to do that!

    1. I wore the Chanel yesterday? meh, it's okay. Nothing wow.

I love the Clarins. It's similar to Laura Mercier Silk Creme in that it's full coverage but maybe a little glowier. I just think it's absolutely amazing stuff - well amazing except for the terrible packaging. You have to try it!

    1. There are just so many releases arent there? Its hard to keep track of. And I remain shocked by the ever increasing price of drugstore mascaras! It's almost £13 a pop these days!

  6. Ah, the days when you actually like everything you are wearing . . . heaven. Perfect look for looking put together and a little angelic. A good pink gloss can do wonders for brightening up the face.

  8. You look gorgeous as usual, Laura! How would you say Miss Manga's lasting power is? Most mascaras tend to smudge horribly on me...

    1. Hi Carolyn - my issue is smudging on my brow bone as my eyes are deeply set. I don't have any issues with Miss Manga which is another plus in it's favour!
