Feeling blue

Well isn't this an unimaginative outfit? Not only have I stayed within one colour palette but I also haven't even attempted to peel off my new ASOS jeans.

I just love these. I think the stretch is addictive and the high waist is actually flattering. Typically I feel a bit "hippy" in anything that defines itself as high waisted but these make me feel quite slinky! And when worn with heels seem to magically extend my short-arse legs.

I slipped on a Topshop "silk" camisole - an item that looks better on the hanger than worn because it reveals far too much boob - and my GAP denim shirt.

Roger came up for a photobomb - Rose sat with the photographer :)

Now let's discuss the hair. Someone on Instagram hit the nail on the head when she said I have a carefree attitude to my hair colour. I do. I like to change it up but I cannot lie to you, I am having a few regrets right now.

The constant need to manage the tone of the lighter hair had been getting on my wick for about a month so I wanted to go darker - but I got carried away as to just how dark. Damn my impulsiveness!

The plan was to add balayage and for that I was going to wait a couple of weeks before going ahead - now I want to bring that appointment forward ASAP. I am desperate for some dimension. It feels so flat and I just can't identify with the colour. I find it hard to even look in a mirror right now. I know, so STUPID and trivial! With any luck, very soon I'll be looking a little closer to this!

Hope you are all well!

  2. Laura I think your dark hair looks beautiful on you, but it will look absolutely STUNNING with some balayage highlights in it like your inspiration photo. I cannot wait to see what it looks like in a few weeks (or sooner!) I admire how adventurous you are with your hair as I am boring and keep the same thing forever. Following your hair journey is always a blast. Ps I think I need those ASOS jeans….

    1. Thanks Alyson! I desperately need something in it. I haven't been an all over brown for years and it's so weird!

  3. This is the colour I aspire to have I look longingly at the picture I have of this colour on pintrest. I totally agree blonde looks great as has different tones whereas I find brown to be so boring!

  5. I understand your impatience about hair color. I do the same thing with cuts. I get an idea or style on my head and I have to do it right now!

  10. Almost the exact same thing has happened to me this week! I spent a good couple of days trying not to cry! While I am waiting for a hair appointment to sort it all out I am using natural things to lift it a bit. I mixed honey, olive oil, cinnamon, lemon and chamomile tea together to make like a hair mask, and left it in over night. It definitely made me feel better about looking in the mirror! Even if the effect was only psychosomatic! Stephie from tea in your twenties xx

  11. Laura, I think the actual colour is great! I am afraid you see it so improper just because it is dark for the season...but think about the fact that autumn is coming!

  13. Girl!!! I won't lie, and I'm unsure of why, but I am shocked. I know its very you to embrace change, which I love, but you really went all in!!! You always look great but I can't wait for this to get a little 'push-up bra' of balayage. Just a little enhancement to make it look (and feel!) more like you again ;)

  16. Give your hair a few more washes/days in the sun Laura! It should start to lighten up and you'll get "natural" highlights coming through from the variations in blonde tone undeneath. I'm naturally brunette and have gone brown-blonde-brown so many times, and I always hate the brown colour initially when I go back. You may end up having to have quite a lot cut off in a few weeks if you add bleach to the ends again now. I think the brown looks fab on you - really rich and expensive, but totally understand how odd it feels when your hair is just not right. x

    1. Violetsnowflake is absolutely right. You have a lightened base now so your hair will naturally do exactly what you want it to soon. Not to mention the money saved from the trip to the hairdressers could equal a very naughty beauty purchase...

  17. I'm sure, the lighter colour will show through after a couple of washes! Then it looks almost like balayage! Just be sure to not damage your hair too much :)
I'm feeling the same way about those camisoles, they look alright on the hanger but reveal too much on myself.

  21. I actually just ombre (balayage) my hair using those home kit ones because I am impatient to see a hairdresser and also i need something new. Funny enough, it was Kate Beckinsale whatever her surname is... is my hair hero. i seem to use her photos when heading to a hairdresser haha or in this case when trying to sabotage my own hair. luckily the results were ok hahahahaha

i secretly bought the same jeans hahaha so im excited. hopefully i got the right size.

  23. I thought that because you have a light base your hair would lighten up naturally after a few washes?

  24. Your hair colour looks stunning, but it would look amazing with a bit of balayage in it! Love the outfit, dying over your Celine bag!

  27. You look lovely with the darker hair. I know you think it is a tad bit too dark, but from experience and as a licensed cosmetologist, don't worry. It will lighten up a bit within a few washes.
