Thumbs down

Isn't it disappointing when you pay through the nose for a 5 star hotel and get a rubbish experience in return? Simone and I only stayed at the St Regis Saadiyat Island for one night but I can't say I would be in a hurry to go back and I would definitely not recommend it to any of you. This is especially odd as I have been to this hotel so many times before and always had a fantastic stay. Now though the seem to be consistently over-occupied and drowning in complacency as a result.

This is obviously a very #firstworldproblems thing but we both have full-time jobs, work hard, and occasionally like to splash out on something luxurious. I had such high hopes and am gutted that the service was so poor.

Still we got to drink mojitos, wear funky sunglasses, watch beautiful sunsets and eat some yummy food (outside of the hotel I might add) so it's not all bad. Swimming in the sea and sitting on the beach has made me even more excited for my holiday next week - I literally squeal whenever I think about it :)

Wardrobe wise I overpacked - as usual. I mean I bought options. Yes, I bought options for a one night stay! We are talking two bikinis, 2 cover-ups, a few tees....just ridiculousness.

In the end I just played with the same clothes, mixing up the accessories to keep it interesting. One of my favourite things was a pair of crazy sunglasses from ASOS. They are a blue floral print on a cat-eye frame. They feel a bit retro to me and if you can't wear wacky sunglasses on the beach, where can you?

Cover up: Zara (old)
Sunglasses: ASOS - Link!
Bag: Celine

I also bought along what can only be described as a beach clutch.

Is this a whole new genre of unnecessary accessory? Yes, yes I think it is.

Anyway this is another ASOS bargain that I bought for my holiday and so far, it's proved to be a worthy £12 investment. And it has scalloped edges so you know, that's all I needed to see before I bought it.

Finally, my slouchy breakfast/moping around outfit is featured below. I cannot tell you how much I love these Warehouse utility trousers. They feel like pyjamas and possibly look like them as well. You're also looking at an outfit that will most likely constitute next week's "plane outfit".

Top: Mango (old)
Trousers: Warehouse - Link!
Bag: Celine
Shoes: Carvela - Link!

I hope you all had a great start to your weekend! I'll be back tomorrow with some kind of beauty post because I got some great goodies last week that I need to talk about!

  1. Aww, too bad to hear you had a bad experience. I work as a hotel receptionist and I know how bad it feels whenever a customer haven't been pleased with their stay.

I loooooove the asos clutch, it is absolutely gorgeous - even if it is unnecessary!

  9. That's a shame but I wouldn't let one bad experience put you off especially as you say you've stayed in the hotel many times before and enjoyed it. Maybe have a meeting with the manager to discuss those issues?? The virgo in me would make a VERY detailed list!

  10. It's always disappointing when something you've waited for lets you down. Still, mojitos and sunsets... Sounds like pretty good silver linings!
