Cut/grow/bleach/repeat

Back in the lob territory and I couldn’t be happier about it.

I desperately needed a cut. Every salon visit prior to today involved a nervous giggle at the suggestion of a trim and a joke that my split ends would “self-cut” themselves.

Ha. Ha. Ha.

No.

Over the last couple of months the bleach dabbling had taken it’s toll and no amount of overpriced serum could disguise the fact that my hair was (insert rude word here).

A visit to Anthony at Pastels was therefore on the cards and I popped in this afternoon to address the damage. He chopped off 3-4 inches of dried out locks and I am no longer embarrassed about the condition of my hair. It feels very cathartic.

In a move that might sound contradictory, I also got my balayage refreshed. I know that over-coloring has probably been the evil that has damaged my hair more than anything but balayage can be gentle (sorta) and it adds so much depth and texture that I just can’t get away from it.

Blah blah blah. I just like playing with colour.

I'll now do what I always do - promise to treat my hair with respect (with dubious follow through). I'll start with good intentions though and kick it off with a spray of the Oribe Soft Dry Conditioner. I picked this up yesterday as Oribe is now for sale in Dubai (honestly, this is a weight off my teeny tiny mind as I no longer have to ration the Dry Texturizer) and if it proves to be amazing I will let you know!

  1. Your hair looks lovely. I keep thinking I should go for a hair cut (but I always get nervous about instructions being misunderstood and coming away with a crazy mushroom hairdo (again). My hair is reaching belly button length so it really needs sorting. One day I'll be brave!! :)

  5. The length looks great on you. I'm glad I'm not the only one who abuses their hair. I've been dying mine black for 6 years and I think I'm past the point where I can reverse the damage. The things we do to ourselves!

  7. I can totally relate, but still am in denial that a cut is what I really need. Guess I have to decide whether I grow or I bleach...

  9. Thinking of doing the whole "post wedding" chop as well. But i'm currently in France and don't speak french. Even my english hairdressers get confused so I think I'll avoid the miscommunication :)

I have been bleaching mine to platinum blonde for years, needless to say it hasn't been past my shoulders the whole time.

  19. I've been having the same issue. I have a slight addiction to going from blonde, to brunette, to blonde, to confused, to dry hair, but I desperately want it to grow out. Asking a bit much, perhaps? Anyway, I recently decided to spend too much on Kerastase conditioner (nutritive oleo-relax smoothing mask) and it has made my hair way silky, almost annoyingly so, that I can't even style it, other than perfectly straight. Based on that, I may reconsider the use-every-day-and-pray-for-glorious-hair-day. Not sure if you've tried it, but may give it a shot for your future hair dyed locks. :-)
