The Reiss Midi Skirt

I can't lie to you. This skirt is expensive. Like $255 expensive. I have somehow managed to justify my ownership by using a cost per wear calculation. Yes, that old chestnut - possibly the mantra of enslaved shopholics - had to be wheeled out.

I have worn it 6 times so it's already "just" $42.5 per wear. Positively bargainous! #girlymaths

I spotted it when I went to to the UAE Reiss Autumn/Winter preview and it was the one piece that I knew I had to get. It's length is just so appropriate for the UAE - in both work and non-work contexts - and the movement you get, thanks to the laser cut outer layer, is extremely flattering. It moves as you do and swings elegantly. It's also a-line which I think is a good choice because unlike some of the puffier midis on the market it looks good from the side and drops from the waist to just the right amount of volume.

Basically, I love it. The End.

Thank you for the lovely comments on my last post - it feels good to get back into OOTD territory. A couple of you - Anne and Stacey specifically - complimented me on my hair and how "effortless" it looked. That's very nice albeit not quite true. There is a routine and it goes something like this:

  1. Wash and let the hair air dry.
  2. Look in the mirror and remark on how much you look like a mop. Agree with husband when he decides to christen you Vileda.
  3. Shrug it off and spray Oribe Dry Texturising spray. Like everywhere.
  4. Wave a few random pieces with your curling wand. Get tired/bored by the time you reach the back.
  5. Brush it out and then use fingers to mess it up again. A seemingly pointless process but one that you do every time.
  6. Finito.

So flipping easy. Now if you asked me to do a groomed blowout it would be a different story so for now I'll say, messy hair FTW!

Hope you had a great day x

  6. Love the skirt, I haven't been into Reiss in years, looks great with the chambray top!

  7. Cost per use for the win!! Love the nickname Vileda, not far from cage woman remark from my husband about my hair hence the ongoing conversation with myself if i should cut my hair or not. I want to but i know i am gonna regret if i cut it too short.

that shirt it the perfect length for a crop top!! Enjoy your weekend xx

  8. Love the skirt. It reminds me of Tibi ones (equally as expensive, but sooo nice).
And, yes, cost per wear is perfectly legit way of justifying not so purse friendly purchases. :D

  20. I found this blog whilst searching for review of the Illamasqua Skinbase Foundation (asos is having a sale on them, btw), an what a surprise! I used to read your old blog (lollipop writes?), and enjoyed it a lot. I was bummed when you went into private mode. I'm glad you are back to blogging!

  21. Love the details of this outfit - the cutouts on the skirt, the embellishment on the top. Your hair looks great! Effortless is tricky to achieve! x

  22. I love your look!!! Reiss is always guaranteed amazing-ness and if you've already worn it 6 times imagine how cheap it will be cost/per wear in a year! ha

  23. You look great! Cost per wear is a magical justification...

  24. love this! http://meowemily.blogspot.com

  25. I know you have no intention of returning to Youtube...but I REALLY REALLY MISS YOUR FRAGRANCE REVIEWS, UHG! There aren't that many females on youtube who do and most of the 'beauty gurus', while I have tons of favs, kind of leave me wanting and disatisfied with their "oh i'm so bad at describing smells, it's just really good, go smell it!" I respect your decision, lol, but you are sorely missed!

  26. I love how you make mix-n-match so easy and effortless!!

p/s - suggestion: if you can put in the size, will be tremendously helpful. I purchase items based on your measurements. *blush*

  29. Never thought of an idea to do check for an item "per wear",
but I am glad that works for you!

Love the retro vibe of the midi skirt!

  30. Admittedly, I had to look up Vileda .. but the look up was worth the reference .. rofl.

  31. I think cost per wear is perfectly acid when it's a wardrobe classic like this!! This is the precisely the kind of wardrobe staple I'd wear.to.death so - perfectly justifiable in my opinion!!! You look lovely :).

  32. The skirt is so beautiful.

  33. I've recently cut my hair same lenght as you, and i love how easy to maintain it is. most days i cant be bothered dealing with it too much but a great tip my mum (a haridresser) gave me, was to wash it at night put Loreal Techi Art Volume Lift into your hair and sleep on it. In the morning it is just right amount messy, then you can apply extra curls if you like. Works like magic! My hair is eternally straight so really works for me.

  34. Your outfits are always so beautiful! I'm very jealous (:
