Laura says: Thin, maybe even slightly greasy feeling lipstick that underwhelms on first application and doesn't quite compare to competitor offerings.
This was my initial point of view….
It would be true to say that my expectations for the "Pops" were SKY HIGH. I think this is a result of watching too many YouTube videos and reading too many blogposts. I was led to believe that these were an amazing release from Clinique and so I made sure I picked up two in duty free before flying back to Dubai.
I got Beige Pop and Wow Pop.
L - Beige Pop / R - Wow Pop
Now first things first, I admire the way these products are structured from a packaging perspective, departing from the classic Clinique lipstick style and appearing far more modern with a sleek format that presents a clear indication of the shade and a subtle presentation of brand.
So there's that.
Colour wise, Beige is not a shade that I like to wear on my lips, for fear of them blending into my head, but Beige Pop is a special little number with a gorgeous peach undertone to lift and distinguish.
Wow Pop is, and there is no better way to describe it, a "bright ass pink" that Barbie might wear for a date night with Ken.
The important part to consider though is how they wear. Clinique calls them luxurious but I wouldn't. The first couple of applications feel very thin, maybe even a little greasy. Admittedly once you get into the swing of applying them the creaminess comes through a little more but I was surprised at just how distinctly average they seemed - nice and all but nothing special. A good NARS Audacious or Estee Lauder Lipstick Envy is what I would call luxurious and truly creamy - and as a result they tend to last a little longer on the lips.
Having said all this, I can't lie to you - I am wearing Beige Pop ALOT. Every-single-day-ALOT. It's an easy colour - less nude that the likes of MAC Creme de Nude - and a pretty one at that.
Will I be buying more?
Well as I said these are perfectly nice and they are not drying in the least but you don't need to sell your Granny in order to stock up. There are many other products in the market that perform slightly better. I've already name checked these but Estee Lauder Lipstick Envy is where it's really at it.
What did you think of the Color Pop lipsticks?
