#ootd and handbag love

Yesterday I wore a hat and I didn't feel like a plonker.

Hats may quite possibly be my new thing.

This is truth - when I walk into a shop I try on at least 1-2 hats, exclaim " I love hats", visualise myself wearing them and then walk away empty handed.

I know I have mentioned this before, but I feel like it's that one accessory that requires a little more self-confidence than what I typically possess on a daily basis.

a) It draws attention to your face and
b) It draws attention to you period. Look around. There aren't oodles of hat wearers bouncing around.

I found this one in Forever 21 and just thought "sod it". I love the colour, it isn't overly floppy and even if it serves only as a prop in my wardrobe at least it wasn't too expensive.

Well who would have thought - I actually ended up wearing it!

(I sound like such a friggin wimp and am actually shaking my head as I write this but it's the truth. This took guts so give me a bravery medal! :)

I did take it off when I was indoors (because I just felt too knobby inside with a wool hat on my bonce) but otherwise it was worn and very much loved. It hid sweat, grey hairs and a mardy pre-menstrual face. It's quite the must have and I shall be investing in more!

I never know how to end #ootd posts so I'll just pop in a picture of my new handbag that you can expect to see a lot more of in the near future.

This is the Sophie Hulme mini tote in Oat that I had previously mentioned in a "Spring Shopping" post way back in February. I love the colour of this bag and had tried it on in Harvey Nichols but experience has taught me that seasonal Sophie Hulme shades almost always go on sale and so I waited….

…and then I spotted it on the Boutique 1 website at half price! I am so excited to wear it. The leather is amazing quality and the shape is different to everything else I have.

Handbags will never fail to make me giddy! :)

See you tomorrow!

  1. Yay! A fellow hat wearer! I'm the same as you in the respect that I normally chicken out of wearing mine (probably because every time without fail, joe laughs at me when I come downstairs wearing one!! Ha!) However, when I am wearing it I do feel like it hides bad hair and 'ugly' days! Yay for hats!

Ps. Love the bag, it's soooo you!

    1. Sod it! Let's just wear them anyway :) I think a cheap hat binge is on the horizon :)

  2. Hats AND a red lip!!!!! :D

    Always so stylish!!!

    1. :) Clearly feeling brave yesterday :)

  3. That hat looks lovely on you! I have the same problem with hats, my hair is big and curly so I can feel like a plonker wearing one haha! love this outfit looks so classy! :)

  4. I love that handbag x

i love hats too but rarely they look good on me cause my head is a little smaller than normal sizes but not small enough to be a small... You know! Lol

  10. The hat, the bags, the OOTD all perfection. I always feel like a bit of a knob wearing a hat, but think it looks so so chic on others. I'll just have to push thru, I think!!

  11. I love the color of the hat! It's definitely the right amount of floppiness!

  12. Okay, so I wear my (many) hats ALL THE TIME! After I got over the fear of wearing them out in public and being a little 'different', I realised how much I loved them and how perfect they are with so many of my outfits. The truth is, my look has never been the same since, in the best possible way!

  13. Love this waterfall vest! It's such a gorgeous colour!
    Madeleine, The Daily Mark

  14. I am a handbag person as well! These are both so, so stunning.

  15. Gorgeous outfit!! I love your bag, the colour is so beautiful! X

  16. I just love all the pictures in this post!! I also love the way it's written; one can see/hear you've recently spent time in the Motherland LOL.
Kudos to you for rocking that hat; other than a straw hat on very anonymous foreign beaches I have never achieved that myself, despite appreciating it on others.

  17. Ah Laura the new bag is a beauty. The hat is stunning on you... Really gorgeous
    Siobhan xx

  18. I feel the same way about hats. I love when other people wear it. But on myself I don't know. The attention thing, I just can't get over it.

  19. That hat looks great on you -- really like it with that outfit. Also your hair is so long now!

    xo, alison*elle

  20. I'm agreeing so hard with you about hats, they do take a lot of confidence to wear. I've had one hanging on the back of my door for over a year now and I've only had the guts to wear it once. Hat confidence is hard to achieve.

  21. I love the concept of wearing hats and hence own quite a few, but really wearing them... I have to work on that.

  22. The colour of that hat is perfect! I am totally the same with hats. I love them and have a few but gosh, I do feel like a knob wearing them 90% of the time!

  23. really want a hat like this and I love the colour of this one!

  24. Hats give be the jeebies... I too have done the, 'in store hat prance' but have never gone as far as walking away with one. You look fabulous though, plus I'm totally eyeing up that duster coat. I spotted something similar in River Island a little while back but could never find it in my size. I don't know how you always manage to dress so chic in the soaring Dubai temps. I was always a hot, sweaty mess in Qatar - sexy! xxx

  25. I could not agree with you more on the hat conundrum. I have been trying on hats for the past 6months and haven't actually bought one... I am scared to wear one outside. How did you get over that fear?

    Annie N Belle

  26. gorgeous look!

  27. Haha I totally get what you mean about hats! There is something so very terrifying about them! You look great though :)

  28. I love the way you started this post, made me giggle haha! Also, I have no idea why you were insecure! You're rocking the hat look in the photos and you look absolutely gorgeous. Work it :)

  29. First outfit is so gorgeous and you can seriously rock that hat! I have a couple of hats, but like you said I feel like a plonker when I wear them out but I love how they look!

  30. You look stunning! I however, am always destined to look like a plonker in a hat. Excellent use of the word plonker btw - it's under-rated.

  31. I think you may have just inspired me to wear a hat! I have always thought that I would't be able to pull of a hat but now im getting the urge to wear one thanks to you! http://littlemissfangirly.blogspot.com/

  32. I love that bag! great look. thanks for sharing it! xx. gigi. www.gigikkitchen.com

  33. This hat is just beautiful! You really suit it, no need to feel self conscious, although I think I would feel the same way! Cute outfit !

  34. That is such a pretty dress! Love the white color :D

  35. I really think we need to wear hats more often, I know it takes some courage and the right attitude, but this is a really great accessory, right? You can wrote a short essay on hats, check it out if interested :)
