How have you all been?
It feels like ages since I have been here. I got back from holiday and was promptly thrown back into the thick of it with work. The next 6 weeks are going to be hectic but I will try and balance it by escaping here whenever I can for a taste of frivolity. This is the whole reason I have a blog. As much as I like using my brain for a portion of the day, its equally lovely to talk shit about all the things in life that are pretty meaningless.
With that in mind here are some musings currently circulating in my head:
* The Mansur Gavriel bucket bag - I got this bag as a birthday present and oh my word, the quality of leather justifies the hype. I remember seeing this brand when it first hit netaporter 2 years ago and I thought "I'll buy that soon"…of course little did I know that its basically impossible to get hold of due to it's popularity. I stalked various sites and Boutique1, a high end retailer in Dubai, got a shipment in just before my birthday. Although it is a bottomless pit that I can never find anything in, I adore the look/feel of this bag. It's a quality designer bag at a decent price and I am having strong feelings about the pink one!
* Birkenstocks - I am so 2000-and late but the single matt strap Birkenstock has been a sensational buy. They are so bloody comfortable and in my opinion, not too ugly. If you have been thinking about these then I urge you to try the single strap version - not quite dainty but a lot easier to wear than you might think.
* Double Wear rules OK - I got two new (overly) hyped foundations recently - Too Faced Born this Way and MUFE Ultra HD. The only thing remarkable about the former is just how distinctly average it is. The MUFE fairs better but I can't put my finger on why I am still on the fence about it. This week I plan on doing a review post but you should know I am back on the Double Wear. I need something that will last through a long work day, disguise tiredness and make me look polished - this is the only product that can deliver.
* No ASOS - you know me and online orders….I like to have something coming once a week but recently, it's changed. I had the clear out and a large part of the wardrobe that got dumped were the "fast fashion" items that I hauled from places like ASOS. I am just not in the mood for mindless spending and instead I want to buy things that I love, that I look forward to buying after saving for them and that I consequently feel that I deserve. I still have my blips - like popping into Forever 21 and getting a fantastic blue denim shirt dress - but blips aside, this is my general mood right now. And yes I did see that fast fashion documentary, The True Cost and I did feel intensely guilty for inadvertently supporting an industry that benefits nobody other than the corporation.
Further to the above point I am trying to recycle more of what I currently own.
The Zara dress I'm wearing today has been sitting in my wardrobe for months….if not years! I wheeled it out and dressed it down with my Topshop flats.
Now I really like these shoes but there is not outing that goes by where the ties don't unravel at some point. Am I doing this wrong? I have tried double and triple knotting them but the bastards always find a way to end up loose and draping along the floor. Not chic. If someone can work it out please tell me because this shoe also comes in silver and a solution would make me very keen on a purchase….
