Whenever someone asks me what my favourite makeup brand is there is one stalwart reply: MAC.
There is still "something" about MAC that makes me a bit giddy and when an appealing new collection comes out all rational sense disappears, replaced by a grasping desire to own it all.
The other day I was on the way to the supermarket when I spotted the arrival of two new collections at the little MAC in Battuta mall. Approximately 2 minutes later I walked off with three products, all of which I think are a little spectacular.
I need to preface this post really by reminding you that this market is BEHIND. New for us is old for you. Case in point, the release of the Giambattista Valli lipstick collaboration and the new Fix+ infusions. In this part of the world this is hot off the press stuff. It's laughable really.
Anyway, I got the lavender Fix+ and two of the "new" lipsticks - Margherita and Tats.
The finish in both is pigmented and long-lasting without being overly drying. They are a great halfway between a matte and an amplified.
When it comes to wear though, I have a clear preference.
In all honesty I thought I would love Margherita more but it's proper pastel-acid-orange-coral party town. It's the kind of tone that would look great in an editorial because when applied it stands out stubbornly on the lips and clashes with skin tone and features. In real life however it's hard to wear without appearing sallow.
Tats though…well that's a different story. It's a rich pink-red which, if we stay in the MAC family, sits in the vicinity of Girl About Town and Moxie. If we move over to Clinique we can see that it's VERY close to Peony from the Matte range….and by close I mean almost exactly the same.
I have worn it two days in a row, paired with a basic eye (Naked eyeshadow from Urban Decay) and I just love it. It's a mood lifter, a skin brightener and a definer all in one.
In hauling these two - and in ordering a Whirl lipstick from MAC UK - I have come to the realisation that I am a proper lip product hoarder. I want to buy them all and case in point, here's my current wish list:
- Chanel La Diva
- NARS Schiap (never tried this - can you believe it!?)
- NARS Funny Face (see above comment)
- Kat von D Bow and Arrow (a newwwwwd)
- Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground
