Outfits of the week #1

Here's the thing about outfit photos - taking them can be a complex process.

You need the right location, lens and light - not to mention a photographer willing to take endless shots until you deem them "acceptable".

With all these dependencies it's tempting to just sack it off and not bother.

I've decided then to try and capture the outfit photo in a way that removes all the stress. No fancy locations - just me, outside my house, at some point during the day, most likely wearing Zara.

Although this week was a fail - in that I missed a day when I had to go to a client's office and therefore couldn't snap the outfit in daylight - on the whole it has been a successful revelation. It's just a simple shot - 1, 2, 3 done - and doesn't take up more than 1 minute of my day. I hope this is okay with you!

Looking at these 4 photos I have come to some conclusions:

  • You can tell I am technically off project work until January because my style has become casual bordering on sloppy.
  • I need to wear a skirt every now and then
  • I need to try and deviate beyond Topshop and Zara
  • I need to try out some new poses.

1. The Too Low Cut For Life Top

This Topshop top looks so innocent on the hanger. Peach toned, neat knot detail at the front and a comfortable three quarter sleeve. What will become apparent however is that this is the ideal garb for you to flash your aliens to the world. Wear a vest or at the very least a pretty bra that you don't mind visually sharing with all who glance at you.

2. The Smug Bitch Face

Clearly the leg cock is my new favourite stance. I love this outfit and I actually wore it twice recently, albeit with different footwear.

These Zara cargos as supremely comfortable but a few words of caution - they will slip down your bum if you wear them a few times and need a belt to hold them up.

3. The CBA

Well the fact that this outfit is more about comfort than style isn't really unusual for me is it? I clearly felt like dressing a little dreary and a lot casual.

The only items of note here are:

1) My Celine Thin Preppy sunglasses - remarkably similar in style to my New Audrey's but a little rounder.
2) The little leopard flats - these are quite flimsy Topshop leopard flats with a black bow detail. While the quality isn't sensational they are comfortable and cute.

4. The Wet Look Skinnies

I have been tempted by leather trousers this season. I even bought a faux pair in Zara a month or so ago and although they do the job, they are so uncomfortable. Ross from Friends? Yeah, something like that.

These are the same principle but SO COMFORTABLE. They are a wet look suede feel with zipper details a-plenty and are best worn juxtaposed with a softer top or, if you have it, a super chunky knit in a light grey or cream. Lush!

I wore them last night to our girls Christmas dinner and loved them even more then!

And that...well, that is it! Until next week - unless I wear something really sensational and manage to rope someone in for an artfully staged "shoot"!

In any case I'll really try to wear a few more feminine items and perhaps find a new wall to you know, keep it interesting :)

PS. Thank you so much for all the comments on the last post. I mentioned on Snapchat that sharing opinions and personal insights is something that can unnerve - but thankfully we are all friends here and you made me feel very loved  :)

  1. Zara is my favourite store ever so I really don't mind if you're likely to be wearing their clothing all of the time, especially as your outfits are always so chic Xx

  2. Those Zara wet look trousers are lovely! They look so good on you.
You look really beautiful in the last photo too = )

    Jenna xo

  3. I actually love the backdrop of these photos! May I know the shade that you used to dye your hair, that is if you used a box dye? It looks lovely:)

  4. Just picked up the top in #3 in Navy yesterday! Can't wait to wear it now that it's "winter" in HK. I also tried to explain to the husband the place of easy and comfortable tops in a woman's wardrobe, and failed. :) xx

  5. Totally love your outfits as always. You are such a classy lady! And also I really enjoyed your more personal post. I understand the need for privacy but a little insight now and then is very enjoyable. I actually appreciate couples who don't overshare their life online. It makes the relationship seem much more sincere.

  6. these are all 100% Sandra-approved outfits. there's nothing a good skinny pant/interesting loose blouse can't fix. can't wait to see more of these! x

  7. #4 - I busted out laughing at your Friends comments .. That was a funny episode and I can totally picture how uncomfortable certain pants can be.

  8. "Smug bitch face" lool! Great outfit styling x

  9. I am not only fine with you taking those pictures in a much more relaxed way, I am actually thirlled to see that there are people out there wanting to keeping it real !! ...I also love Zara, it's one of the few ways to look trendy and chic without going bankrupt !! ...and I believe I have that same black cape, mine is from Zara, I got it last December ;-)

  10. I could never figure out how to pose, even taking makeup pictures feels so awkward. I think you do great!

  12. I love this post Laura, such a great no nonsense ways to show off your looks. I have the kitty flats in black, but am totally crushing on your burgundy pair...swoon swoon!
    Hugs Adele xoxo

  13. I love the cape and this is such a good way of doing an OOTD - so much better than 20 shots of the same outfit from every angle! xx

  14. I like all those outfits but my favourite is the last one- you look gorgeous !

  15. Thanks for your share, and every outfit is so beautiful

  16. Hi Laura, just want to say you have lost weight and u look fantastic. Have not been reading your blog of late as have been painting house and moving to Florida for the winter. Just want to say I so enjoy your rapier wit, honesty and your ability to poke fun at yourself and not take it seriously. Thoroughly enjoy your musings, Jen

  17. Omg, you are saying you are almost looking sloppy and I'm sitting here wishing I looked as polished as you do! :D You are gorgeous and I really like your style!

  18. Am here to testify what this great spell caster done for me. i never believe in spell casting, until when i was was tempted to try it. i and my husband have been having a lot of problem living together, he will always not make me happy because he have fallen in love with another lady outside our relationship, i tried my best to make sure that my husband leave this woman but the more i talk to him the more he makes me fell sad, so my marriage is now leading to divorce because he no longer gives me attention. so with all this pain and agony, i decided to contact this spell caster to see if things can work out between me and my husband again. this spell caster who was a woman told me that my husband is really under a great spell that he have been charm by some magic, so she told me that she was going to make all things normal back. she did the spell on my husband and after 5 days my husband changed completely he even apologize with the way he treated me that he was not him self, i really thank this woman her name is Dr Aluta she have bring back my husband back to me i want you all to contact her who are having any problem related to marriage issue and relationship problem she will solve it for you. her email is traditionalspellhospital@gmail.com she is a woman and she is great. wish you good time.
He cast spells for different purposes

  19. I have been following you since the days of Lollipop26 and I don't think I have ever commented before! Just wanted to say that I love your style. It is the glamourized version of my own, and I can always count on you for some clothing (and beauty!) inspo.

  20. P.S. I started running regularly in November, and I am using the Nike app, on your recommendation. Keep up the good work!

  21. Selling women’s clothing is comparatively easier way to start one’s own small business with. Before entering this industry, you have to learn a rough outline of the steps. So nice the clothing is. http://www.import-express.com/cbtprogram/apa/clothing.html

  22. Because of so many obstacle in our relationship, I am my boyfriend stopped seeing each, distance was one of our greatest challenge, he lives in a nearby state because of the nature of his job, we can’t see each other regularly. We were both in love with each other, we can’t let each other go whenever we meet, he regularly visit and I visit him too on weekends, we got engaged when he found out I was pregnant.
Our breakup came when he stopped coming to my place to see me as usual, he started giving me excuses and don’t even bother to check on me as usual or even phone calls and text, It was then revealed to me by a friend that my boyfriend now lives with a strange lady, I have already seen it in my dream before the confirmation from her. The strange lady turned him against me. He forgot about our engagement and the baby am carrying.
Crying all night even at work most times couldn’t solve my problem, but Dr. Wakina did, he was referred to me, the spell cast on us was perfect, the strange lady who uses evil spell to control him automatically flee from his life, after damaging his feeling for me for 4months. I only wanted this life alone with the man I have ever loved and I finally got him back. We named our son after Dr. Wakina for his work done on our family. It wasn’t easy until it’s done, email dr. wakina via dr.wakinalovetemple@gmail.com

  23. Absolutely loving your blog and your style. I have been following you on pretty much every social media you have. I totally understand the pressures of taking outfit photos and haven't done any myself for the reasons you mentioned!
