"It's just a bag".
This is the mantra I am internally repeating to myself while simultaneously staring googly eyed at a quilted leather handbag.
The time I have waited for this....well, it's been actual years and to tell you a secret, this time last year I went to Chanel and came "this" close to getting a jumbo. On that occasion I ended up walking away. The timing didn't feel right and in all honesty I didn't feel like I deserved the purchase.
As much as this is just a handbag it does also signify something deeper. I didn't want to just buy it on a whim like a brat - I wanted to plan and look forward to getting it, feeling grateful for my hard work in earning the money to pay for it.
This year, I felt like the time was right and so set about doing my research, pouring over PurseForum, watching videos and even Google image searching to see what different sized handbags looked like on different people. I've actually loved that process because it stirred the anticipation and built the excitement.
For me it was always all about the Classic Flap and I narrowed it down to the jumbo and the maxi. Many moons ago I actually borrowed a Jumbo from a friend so I had some idea of how that worked in terms of lifestyle but I was also tempted by the Maxi, purely for impact and size. In either case it had to be Caviar leather over Lambskin - a hardier choice - and preferably gold hardware although after watching so many unboxing videos of silver hardware I was fairly open minded on that front.
Colour wise, black felt like the best "First Chanel bag" option and one that I would feel less precious about. I don't want this bag to sit in a cupboard and rarely get love for fear of stain transfer and so as much as I LOVE the beige version and consider that shade unfinished business that requires a purchase, a black flap would win out.
Today was the day!
I went along to the Mall of the Emirates branch and made a decision in less than 5 minutes.
The Jumbo was gorgeous and I would have been happy with that but when the SA bought out the Maxi I just knew that it was "the one". I love how it looked single and double strapped and size wise, it felt like a practical choice. I'm actually glad there were no beige jumbo's in stock because if that had been the case the decision would have been agonising. The only subsequent impact is that I now have a compulsion to get the beige so I'll start saving for that now!
If you have ever watched any unboxing videos you know how the bags come packaged - it's all delicate tissue and soft fabric. I unboxed it on Snapchat if you haven't seen already!
I cannot wait to wheel this out and what I am planning to do is a review in 3 months time to see how I feel about it as a bag.
- Will the double flap get on my nerves?
- Will I be lopsided because the weight of the bag causes my shoulder to sag?
- Will I *gasp* regret the purchase?
Let's make that date in our diaries and I will be sure to get back to you!
PS. Thank you for all the lovely messages and comments. I hope you see this as me sharing my excitement rather than anything else. Ooh and if you have any care advice tips and tricks I'd love to know!
