I went to Dubai Mall today and bought stuff.
Okay...not quite the end.
I picked up a small stash and I am excited to chat about each item with you. I'll start from the left and with the preposterously priced eyeliner from Tom Ford.
1) Tom Ford Deeper (01) Eye Defining Pencil Pen
This double-ended liner is apparently so magical that it can legitimately command a £42 price tag. I have seen the videos and read the reviews and the general consensus is mostly positive with raves about the calligraphy brush, the more precise squatter brush at the opposite end and the inky opaque liquid.
This all sounds fantastic but the price is undoubtedly high and while I do like to splash the cash I am equally happy with a L'oreal, Clarins or Kat Von D liner. In this case I levy the blame at Sandra and her enabling video!
I have yet to try this (tomorrow morning will be the moment of truth) but you bet that if I am able to create a liner so sharp that it could kill a man that I will let you know.
2) Illamasqua Gleam Aurora Champagne
I have actually tested this out already, putting my sticky little mitts in the pan and slapping it on my cheeks, and it is EXCELLENT. It's a champagne toned cream highlighter that makes you shine and glisten - as oppose to obnoxiously sparkle. I wanted this to be on par with Benefit Watt's Up and it most definitely is, illuminating skin in the prettiest way. Comparatively I would say that this is warmer and more emollient in texture than Watt's Up, something which may compromise it's longevity when worn but as it is so creamy and easy to blend I don't mind the concept of reapplication at the 5pm touch up time.
I know that this is a must-have from the brand so I glad to finally be able to join the conversation about it's quality.
Sidenote: I may be imagining this/not paying attention but I hear barely a whisper about Illamasqua anymore. Am I making this up?
3) Illamasqua Rosepout lipstick
I can't work out how I discovered this. I definitely didn't buy it but I can't be sure if the brand sent it to me or if Mouldyfruit donated it. Either way I started reusing this a couple of months ago and it has become my go-to, forever in any bag that I use, and slipped on throughout the day. Such is my love for it that I wore the original bullet down to a nub and made a repurchase.
I love the creamy formula - this is from their Glamore range that is intended to be rich in pigment yet hydrating. It's exactly what I define rose to be. Nude, pink but with a touch of a mauve undertone to make it wearable.
Could it be duped? Almost certainly but don't underestimate the amazing creaminess of the formula.
On it's own it's nice...
...but my favourite way to wear this is with Whirl lipliner by MAC underneath. Like Rosepout it has a mauve undertone so manages to define and make the overall look slightly less insipid.
Okay maybe still a little insipid but wearable nonetheless.
If these kind of shades are your thing and Illamasqua is not in a location near you, definitely consider a blind online purchase.
4) Topshop Lucas jeans
I like a slim boyfriend jean. They make a nice change from the more restrictive skinny and are an easy and versatile wardrobe item. My favourite all-time pair were the Paige Jimmy Jimmy slim boyfriend - so soft and comfortable that I wore them until an unfortunate hole appeared in the crotch. I've never found a pair that measured up since but...I think these might be it.
The material is soft and the fit is flattering. I tried them on, spun around to see whether my arse looked acceptable or not and sprinted to the checkout only to find that they were half price. Success!
If you are thinking of buying these don't be afraid to size down one size - I did and the fit is slightly closer yet remains just as comfortable.
...after all that verbiage that is really the end of the haul! I will wait until I try out the eyeliner tomorrow before stating that I am happy with everything but my hopes are high and my fingers are firmly crossed!
Thank you for reading x
