TAG: My Husband Explains the Purpose of Make-Up

I read her post and felt compelled to quiz my other half.

The premise is simple - list out a series of beauty products and then sit back and listen to the perception of their purpose.

I did think that having been together for over a decade he would have absorbed a degree of understanding about makeup. Prepare yourselves for construction analogies and lots of talk about layering of slap, something he has no doubt observed from yours truly.

Primer
This is what you put on your skin to make a crap surface more even before you pile on all the other crap. It makes stuff stick.

Foundation
This is the building blocks of the makeup look.

Construction analogy alert! 

You put it on to give an even finish to the skin. It's meant to match the colour of your skin but most people end up orange.

Powder
To absorb sweat and to make you look less shiny. It also can make your skin look dry and cakey. You know when I said that you had looked like you dipped your face in sand? Yeah, that's what powder does.

Concealer 
It's like Tippex (White out) for the skin. You layer this on to hide manky parts of your face.

Bronzer
This is what white people use to look tanned.

NB: He's Asian

Or it can be used by anyone who lives in places without sun. It gives you a glow.

Blusher
Adds colour to your cheeks. Typically pink.

Highlighter
It's a powder or cream that you put on your face to make people look at it.

You know, you put it on your cheeks to make it stand out. Is that right? Or is it for eyes? I don't know.  Highlighter.....

Cue deep thinking about what highlighter is

No its definitely what you use to make people look at parts of your face. And highlighters come in weird colours like gold or silver.

Mascara
Maybe she's born with it. Probably not.

Eyeshadow
That goes on your eyelids? It's like paint for your eyes. You paint your eyelids different colours - but you only really do brown.

Eye kohl
For drawing your eyes in - to make them POP.

He knows I hate that word. 

Brow pencil
To colour in your brows because you cannot yet buy fake stick on eyebrows in Boots.

Let's hope that day never comes.

Lipstick
To give colour to the lips. But not sticky - that's lipgloss that is. See I know that much!

Setting spray
This is spray that acts like a glue to stick all the layers together.

I mean I guess this is sort of true, right? 

BB cream
A what? A BB cream? What the hell is that? Never heard of it. Is that skincare?

Mmm....quite close to be fair.

Now it's over to you. I seriously urge you to try this with your other half and when you do try and keep a straight face with no laughing :)
