As the title suggests I am about to get all Julie Andrews on your arse and talk about all things frivolous. I feel like it will be the perfect tonic following yesterday's political developments (#brexited).
Here then is a positively wonderful light and giddy post about all the lovely-wuvly bonny things I am bursting to share with all my chums.
Zara jeans - Link!
One word I am consciously aware of overusing is....OBSESSED. So in the name of consistency I shall state the following: I am OBSESSED with these jeans. Really. I'm so into them I am actually contemplating a second pair, perhaps in a size down.
Here's what you need to know. They are mid-rise (ideal), a mid-tone black (I would probably call it charcoal - my Frame Denim jeans are blacker), come adorned with gentle distressing (designed to confuse Dads the world over) are gently cropped and have an ankle detail that can only be described as a slit (dreadful word) which is perfect for showing off shoes that come with straps. They are also not too stretchy - they have 2% elastane so although there is some give they are not a lost-baggy-bummed cause by the end of the day. Oh yes, and they are £25.99. Sensational.
Maje sandals - Link!
I bought these sandals because my feet are too ugly for the Isabel Marant Jaeryn. That is essentially it. I love the aesthetic of a studded sandal with a sensible heel but us wider feet gals can struggle to make that style work. These are a practical equivalent and I'm wearing them every day.
The Maje heel is chunky and the detail is sturdy. They only "come alive" when they are being worn as in store they channel an orthopaedic vibe (which may explain why they are in the sale) but for a wearable daytime sandal, I honestly don't think I could do any better.
Anastasia Beverly Hills shadow in Sienna - Link!
As I have said before, there is something of the "white label" about Anastasia cosmetics. I feel like the packaging lacks cohesion and this is something that immediately triggers the raising of a sceptical eyebrow. But blimey, this shadow is good.
I got this recently in Sephora Mall of Emirates where they have a, how shall we say, DISMAL stand. All the lip testers are missing (presumed stolen) and the shadows themselves are just shoved into a drawer making the act of finding anything a 10 minute process.
I could only commit to finding one shade that I wanted and Sienna popped up first. What a beauty. This is a matte reddish, coppery brown and I shove it on my eyes every single day. To see it in action, look at my eyeball in the this post - Link! - but the texture and pigmentation are phenomenal and make me want to place an online order for more.
Whatever factory you are getting these from Anastasia, please continue.
Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pomade - Link!
Would you believe that it's only as I write this post that I realise my two key make up items are from the same brand?
Anyway, yes another product from Anastasia.
I was always convinced that the brow pomade was the product for me. So convinced in fact that I now own three, in varying shades of brown. Despite my retail dedication when it comes to application it's generally resulted in a Sharpie-esque brow fail. Whatever the brush the bodge up was the same.
Well my brain switched on last week and I tried a different approach. I reached for the MAC 210, a brush that serendipitously turned up in a drawer, and the outcome was just what I wanted. Of course with a brush like this the process may seem painstaking - you are effectively painting on faux hairs, but it's actually a lot quicker than I thought and the accuracy is worth it.
If you don't own the MAC 210 then I would highly recommend it. Also sensational for gel liner.
Other things of note:
> Kat Von D Bow n Arrow - this elusive Everlasting liquid was so hard to hunt down and when I finally got my mitts on it I deemed it too grey. I still stand by that but combined with NARS Rosecliff lipstick it is transformed to world's best base colour.
> Johanna Olsson - I have followed Johanna for a while and noticed that she had started YT videos. She's Swedish, gorgeous and talks fashion and makeup. I just love new YouTubers - they are less aware than their more experienced counterparts so the patter is less contrived. I loved her recent morning routine and it has inspired me to skip the liner and lighten the load.
> H&M tank - You know me and basics. Well actually Laura Carlson knows me with basics because when she was lone-shopping in H&M she saw this and thought of me. High neck, with a good flow and a lower hemline, this is one of "those" pieces that deserve to be in your wardrobe.
Last week we rescued a kitten.
As our resident community #pussypatrol we feed and Frontline the cats in our area and spotted this teeny kitten darting into a bush a few night's in a row. She looked injured and it turned out she was. The original plan was to nurse her back to health and then re-home but I have never known a cat to be so affectionate and loving - I'm not sure I can see her go. I have temporarily called her Edith, although Doris and Judy are also names I often use, and her future with us depends on how The Integration goes with the dogs. Roger is less of a concern but Rose....well if Rose was human she would definitely have an ASBO. Her behaviour is occasionally unruly but in general, if Roger is on board she will follow. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can make it happen.
Thanks for reading as always :)
