I have a little hate fire burning for Dubai's H&M's. The merchandising is depressing and the stock selection is poor. I can't ditch it though. Every now and then, in a dusty dark corner, hidden by piles of polyester, rests a total gem that temporarily dulls the hate fire. This straight cut t-shirt dress is one such item.
So there I was, free for a few hours after literally slaving behind my laptop all week, deciding to invest some time in the mall. It's Ramadan right now so quite frankly, with most restaurants and cafes shut until sundown, there is bugger all else to do other than shop.
I did my little round - COS, Reiss, Sephora, Zara, Topshop and begrudgingly H&M - in the usual haunts. I got some snazzy trousers and tops in Zara and when I hit H&M I spotted this simple dress in a back corner of the Mall of the Emirates store. Within seconds I snapped up my size. This is perfect summer day time wear.
- It's straight cut and the lack of body cling makes it feel light and comfortable
- It ends above the knee which counteracts any potential to look wide and frumpy
- The flounced sleeves add some interest; and
- It's striped.
You could wear it with heels, as the model has done on the site, but I just don't think the material is "dressy" enough for that. My bright white Adidas Vantage it is then!

These pictures were taken in a odd corner of a development called City Walk. It's gives me major St Christopher's Place/Shepherd's Market vibes and as artificial as it plainly is, made me feel oddly happy. I do get homesick and this time of year can be very testing due to the unbearable heat during the day. The sight of a red phone box and some faux-Euro architecture was just what I needed.
See you soon!
